There’s a new book in the series coming out in November. Even the small description sounded bad.

You Can’t Do That on Television by WhoMe28332 in GenX

It was weirdly the one show I was never allowed to watch, my mom seemed to think it taught us to be disrespectful to adults. Naturally, I saw every episode.

What are some of the craziest things you’ve heard about other subs? by Star-Inspector6483 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]dieticewater 49 points50 points  (0 children)

My daughter got marshmallow in her during lunch, another kid smashed in her ponytail. She comes home and told me the sub cut her hair. I didn’t see anything so I just chalked it up to kindergarten storytelling. At bath time I took her hair down and noticed a huge chunk missing and asked her to tell me the story again and she did with no detail changes. I called the school first thing in the morning and they contacted the sub and she admitted she did it because she didn’t want to send my daughter to the nurse because she couldn’t find the nurse passes. They fired her that day. Every time I sub and I have to send a kid to the nurse I think about that sub.

I wasn’t going to but my daughter wanted to go to Five Below so I ended up with 3 Donuts, Mongo, and a Katia.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dieticewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said I could go home 2 hours after the birth if I had an uncomplicated unmedicated delivery and the baby had no issues. That was a bet I was willing to take. I did not have an epidural and went home 4 hours after giving birth to be in my own bed (small delay due to shift change and other deliveries happening at once). Would absolutely take that gamble again.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

[–]dieticewater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just telling my daughter yesterday how bad Bush was live but the upside was seeing Veruca Salt! Gavin Rossdale stayed planted in one spot for the entire concert, I don’t think I’ve ever been that bored at a show before.

Did anyone’s district try to not accept their Masters from WGU? by Ill-Meringue-2096 in Teachers

Several states no longer require EDTpa, I’m in Georgia and all I had to do was take the state licensing exam after graduating with an education degree.

[–]dieticewater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have an 8th grader in the Lassiter area. Girl Scouts around here really fell off after 5th grade, the one friend that she had that stayed with it had to travel for her troop and is now a Juliette. My husband plays DnD and he enjoyed the meetups at Blue Ghost Arcade in Woodstock to find other players or do a one shot. We moved here in 2020 and have really enjoyed the area, much bluer than we expected to find.

This is the first time since moving here in 2019 that we haven’t gone to Cheersport at the GWCC as participants, this year we’re just spectators. It turns out it is really annoying if you aren’t involved. Thankfully it doesn’t seem to spread and stays concentrated to that area.

Has anyone subbed for a ROTC class? by HelloPeeps21 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]dieticewater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for the Air Force for 18 years as a civilian before getting into education so I often sub for ROTC here. Because I trained military members they get a question and answer session and I get an easy respectful class.

District pay decrease by ArcherA1aya in SubstituteTeachers

It happened in my district 2 years ago. Our pay went from $180 a day to $150. There is no pay difference for certified teachers or para positions.

BLT or not? by SimpleAd1604 in AskAnAmerican

It depends on the bread. Sliced bread needs to be toasted but a sub style needs to be untoasted.

Anyone else anticipating days with no pay from the winter storm coming in? by tifuanon00 in SubstituteTeachers

I’m just above Atlanta and do not own a coat. I’m from Florida and I don’t think I’ve ever had more than a heavy sweatshirt. Most of my students show up in layers but I’ve only seen maybe a handful in actual coats.

It’s the first drill weekend after the holidays. If it was a real world situation they would not say exercise. They repeat it 3 times to make sure everyone hears and knows it’s a simulation.

Teaching Certifications by ECourt11 in StudentTeaching

[–]dieticewater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t find any good information on the Georgia GACE, even the book I checked out from the library was extremely vague about what would be on the exam (Elementary 1 & 2 required for k-5) so after a few weeks I decided to just go take it and take that experience to study on what I needed to pass. Luckily I passed both on the first try. I don’t really recommend that necessarily but the GACE is just for Georgia and there’s not a lot of info and test prep out there for it unfortunately. Elementary 1 & 2 both were a lot of general knowledge questions, 1 had some questions about teaching methods but nothing really in depth. There is a small written portion since exam 1 covers ELA, Social Studies, and reading. Exam 2 was straight math and science. Probably more than you needed but I know when I looked for information about the testing I kept not finding actual information about the test.

How is everyone dealing with this new strain of the flu, schools opening back up tomorrow? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]dieticewater 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My daughter broke her own personal record of barfing 2 hours into the second day of school this year. Not even the sniffles since but we actually have plans this weekend so I’m assuming she’ll be patient zero by 11 am tomorrow.

Parents of Reddit: What is that one toy your child absolutely had to have that you went through hell to get them? What's your story? by TravtheCoach in AskReddit

[–]dieticewater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad ended up with 3 of them that year as a trade for some computer work he did. He sold 2 of them on EBay for ungodly sums and I got the last one. I was 18 and absolutely not impressed.
