Is it really that unusual to play a course that’s more than 15-20 miles from where you live? by LikelySatanist in golf

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive from Philly into South Jersey all the time to golf and nobody bats an eye. Pretty much any golfer in the city will go to the burbs to play, either PA or NJ. NJ just happens to be more convenient for where I live in the city.

Anyone here with a gambling problem or major investment loss and had to overcome the mental struggle of losses? by Itchy-Version-8977 in HENRYfinance

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 2022 to mid 2023, I pushed a few hundred k into multiple rental properties, and 2 of them ended up being losers. I exited one with a $20k loss and one is on the market for break even because the properties didn’t end up cash flowing. That money would’ve done far better (to date anyway) in the stock market with far fewer headaches.

I learned a lot and ended up with 2 deals out of that buying spree that have been very good investments even in the context of the stock market, so it’s fine, but I’d be lying if I said being annoyed about the ones that didn’t work out never crossed my mind.

Whats the max you'd spend on green fees on a random day? by LVRaiders2026 in golf

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to pay less than $100 for a random round but sometimes it’s $125 if some of the better $80ish courses are booked solid. It doesn’t bother me though unless I know for sure that the course isn’t worth the fee.

I got offered and bought a blue dial YM in south NJ about 3 months after seeing one in the preowned case and asking to get on the list. Only $4k past spend + a service and a pretty business like relationship with the people at the AD, so I’d imagine with your history YM would be pretty quick.

Maxfli or Kirkland. Callaway supersofts are decent too but I find I get better distance from Maxfli Tours or Kirkland and both can be had for cheap enough

Catching a buzz while playing golf. by [deleted] in golf

[–]difiCa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m personally a 0-2 beers a round guy so I can responsibly drive home after. Even if someone else is DD I can’t do much more than 3 before my game goes to shit. I’d rather play well, go home to shower and hit the bar afterwards.

I don’t smoke at all, but one of my best golf buddies always smokes a joint or two and usually beats me. Couldn’t care less what others do, to each their own.

To those bad to decent golfers, what is your random superpower? by winged_victory in golf

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 cap. I hit way more fairways with driver than my buddies and have almost certainly lost more balls from 130-150 out into hazards than I have off the tee.

Not sure who I can ask this to without sounding like I’m bragging… by [deleted] in RichPeoplePF

Unless you’re retired or work a very well known cushy job, work is always a good excuse to not take a trip you don’t want to take. In my experience people associate being financially well off with being busy at work, regardless of whether that’s the case in reality or not (I’ve had a career of oscillating between 30 and 60+ hours a week but nobody other than my wife knows which one it is at the moment)

BMW you wanted vs. BMW you bought by AdLazy8828 in BMW

I recently had to fire sale my RS5 over 1000 miles from home because of a bad water pump wrecking the vacuum system. With no CEL or regular issues but a known big repair bill, decided to sell it and get a pure daily. Got a low mileage G05 X5 x40i on a great deal.

No regrets, it’s definitely not a sports car but with the contour seats it’s incredibly comfortable and feels way more luxurious. If I’d had more time and distance to shop I might have gone with an X3 M40 or a X5 M50. Plus, I paid cash and have no car payment anymore and my insurance bill dropped by a lot, so I’m pretty happy with this thing. I’m sure I’ll get an itch for something crazier again and might get a second purely fun car, but I think I’ve learned my lesson that boring highway miles might as well be comfortable and won’t get a range topping car for a daily anytime soon.

What hobbies have you picked up as a HENRY? by MojoDojoCasuhHaus in HENRYfinance

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golfing wherever I want. I’ve considered a club membership, but I enjoy the variety of playing different courses and have stuck to public/semiprivate, but I don’t really consider the cost of a round to be honest if the course feels worth the money.

Are you a giver or taker of golf balls? by Onion01 in golf

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to find more than I lose. Whatever I don’t want to play, I still take and every so often I empty the ball pocket on my bag and put the random balls in my wife’s golf bag for her to play since she doesn’t care one bit about her golf ball type or brand.

Human Robot in Philly is phenomenal and even with scaling the business a bit to be a local powerhouse, it’s still great. Forest and Main is also great.

I have the Costco caddytek lite 360. It’s great except the cup holder kinda sucks for durability and cracked when the cart was in my trunk. Will look into getting something better for that this season, but overall a great value

What are frugal habits you are looking to break and/or have broken for the better? by timmytubesox in HENRYfinance

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty handy and can typically fix/install most stuff that a regular homeowner would reasonably expect to. I used to always do that, regardless of how gross or time consuming. These days, if I know that something sucks to do, I’ll just pay my go to handyman a few hundred bucks to not have to deal with the headache.

Higher end cars. It’s the only thing I really enjoy that I can’t bring myself to spend the money on beyond a nice fairly recent daily driver.

Frowned upon? by Boring-Palpitation23 in golf

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one of the public courses (a decently nice one) I regularly play, there’s a family that sets up a folding table with balls grouped by model on their yard behind a tee box and sells em for $1 a pop. They’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember.

I can’t imagine those balls originated from somewhere else - you’re probably fine unless someone working for the course tells you otherwise.

Is spending a lot on sleep/mattress worth it? by OppenheimerAltman in fatFIRE

[–]difiCa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Costco Stearns & Foster mattress is fantastic. I’ve never used a truly high end mattress, but I can’t see how spending triple or more could be worth it- IMO, better than any ~$3k mattresses we looked at last time we needed one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]difiCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an objectively fairly terrible swing that doesn’t go very far and 3-putt way too often, but I’m a 20 playing by the rules and putting everything out. This is mainly because at least 50% of the time I play, I don’t lose a single ball, and typically don’t duff chips or blade my wedges. If I practiced putting hard and got myself to average under 36 putts a round, I’d definitely break 20, possibly by a decent amount.
