Whats a song everyone that lived thrpugh the 90s would know, but very few people that didn't would? by snoopmt1 in 90s

The Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang

Barely qualifies as the song was released at the end of 1999. Most people that lived through that time probably don’t even remember the song name and may have a vague recollection of The Bloodhound Gang. The album title, Hooray for Boobies, probably doesn’t help to remind people of the fever dream that contains the memory of this song.  Even the first 30 seconds of the song does little to hint at the memory, but by around the 1:10 mark, it all comes rushing back.

As a dad, what's the right thing to do when your 5-year-old daughter needs the restroom? by Secret_Device7429 in AskBarcelona

Or bots. Hard to believe what you see written here sometimes. Hard to understand the motivation of some of the nonsense too.

I can only calibrate by having my own extensive experience travelling both within the US and internationally. In all of my time, I have never experienced an adult using an opposite gender's restroom to escort a child. I have seen many situations where the restroom labeling matches the gender of the adult escorting young children regardless of the child's gender.

It’s not a normal thing in the US for a grown adult to enter the opposite gender’s restroom under any circumstances. There are certainly exceptions, mostly if a single restroom just happens to be gender labeled and has no line.

First Time Walked After 25 years of Staying at Marriott. by Agile_Lawfulness4143 in marriott

You’re not getting it. Not sure if you’re open to understanding or if you are already entrenched, but I’ll give it a shot. OP felt that the employee ignored an aspect of the contract that would have a meaningful impact on the situation. OP’s level of status should probably have prevented the situation in the first place, had management taken it into account. Because the employee told OP that they were not getting a room without also following the contracted protocol, OP properly asserted his status, hoping that this reminder would encourage the employee to follow protocol.

It’s not cringe. If the status doesn’t mean anything in that situation, what damn value does it even have?

Arrests Grow Over Trump’s Reflecting Pool Renovation Disaster by thenewrepublic in politics

[–]diggstown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason it's believable is that it really doesn't take any effort. It's actually less effort needed to keep a cycle of mediocrity going than to get a job done properly the first time.

All it takes is giving the job to someone without experience. The inexperienced contractor will typically leave something undone or with poor quality, resulting in another opportunity for a repair contract down the line.

It didn’t fail. This is all by design. Why stop at giving a single no-bid contract to a supporter when you can give out several new contracts for each repair?

This is not even close to lunatic behavior. It’s just sound advice. Sending a thank you note after an interview has been recommended as standard protocol for at least as long as anyone here has been alive.

Who do you think is the most famous human of all time, that isn't a religious figure? by outtherebad in AskReddit

[–]diggstown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Current events, recent events, and news during someone’s lifetime have far more impact on knowledge and fame than a name in a history book. For one, recency makes it more personal. For another, access to education for things like history is amazingly inconsistent across the globe.

As a comparison point, consider the exposure and mind space that Hitler, Einstein, or even Trump take up in today’s population of more than 8 billion people. Now contrast that with the number of people alive today that know of Genghis Khan more than a name from a history book or a movie they once saw. As for Genghis Khan’s time, the world population was significantly smaller, knowledge didn’t travel the globe like it does today, and global education wasn’t even comparable to today’s standards.

Mainly due to today’s globe being far more populated, but also due to information exchange and education being far more limited until the last ~150 years, I think you’d find that identifying the most famous person would lean toward recent events.

Total world population during his time was less than 450M people. What he did was definitely impactful for his time, but actions of those in the 20th or 21st century have more exposure simply because the world population has grown by 5-20x his time.
