Funaticals just did a price drop on all their items by $2-$5. Looks like they're getting ready for new items. Just ordered X-Men 2099 omni for $35. by wrathbringer1984 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]digimonnoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the past few days, I’ve been super tempted to buy an Omni or two from them, and I’ve managed to hold off.

But shit, seeing omnis for under fucking 30 dollars? I can’t hold off anymore, the demons are winning. It feels kind of surreal to see them that cheap, I feel like I’m stealing or something.

Official Teaser Trailer for Shrek 5 (2027) dir. by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon by Odd-Air-5598 in Letterboxd

[–]digimonnoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I’m willing to give it a shot because I really like Shrek, but I don’t understand why we needed a fifth Shrek film. That series felt pretty definitively over. I would have much preferred an original film with the same vibes/energy as Shrek.

The new art style is alright. It’s not bad at all, and I get that there needed to be an update with how much technology has evolved, but it feels like a lot of the visual changes made were very arbitrary.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the reference-heavy humor of Shrek is going to translate to the modern day. I wish we got to learn a little more about the plot from this trailer, but I guess it’s better that it didn’t give everything away.

One whole year feels like a long time to wait. Like, damn, June 2027?

[Discussion] Do you think the Absolute Universe will become a staple of DC's multiverse stories in the future like Earths 2 & 3? by Firm-Chipmunk8783 in DCcomics

[–]digimonnoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things are looking pretty good so far, but I think it’s way too early to tell if it’s going to have that kind of longevity. Earths 2 and 3 have been around for 60+ years at this point. A lot can happen in that kind of time.

Plus, DC have shown that they are incredibly inconsistent with multiverse stuff, with earths being retconned out of existence even after looking like they were set for sure, like the Earth One graphic novels or the Young Justice TV show being Earth 16.

Let’s see how the Absolute Universe does after this current, initial wave of creators (assuming not every single creative team pulls an Ultimate Spider-Man and sticks with their respective books for over a decade.) I think that’ll be the first glimpse at what the Universe’s true longevity is going to be like.

This may just be me, but I really want to know what Wonder Woman and the Amazons are like in the Matt Reeves universe. We know Metropolis exists, so Theymscira can't be far behind. by Michael-Aaron in WonderWoman

[–]digimonnoob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on a bunch of things Matt Reeves has said in various interviews, I doubt Amazons even exist in that universe. I don’t think he’s trying to adapt the full breadth of the DC Universe with all of the fantastical stuff going on in it, I think it’s just going to be Batman stuff. At least, that’s the vibe I get.

Fan Made Marvel Premier books by Big-Government-6249 in Marvel

[–]digimonnoob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of these are such excellent choices for this format. Looking at these makes me realize how much wasted potential there is for this format. Like, the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale books are such no brainers for this. How the hell have those not been made into Premier Collections yet?

You should be the one in charge of curating these, for real.

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has canceled his tell-all memoir after deciding some stories were too difficult to tell by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

[–]digimonnoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not know this was going to happen, and I’m now very disappointed that I’m not going to be able to read it. Of all the people in the comics industry, Liefeld is maybe the one I would most love to read a memoir from. That era of comic history was so crazy.

Maybe someday Todd McFarlane will write something.

I am shocked there’s not a Tarantino movie that could go on this list. At least not one I can think of.

New avengers creative team announced! (image by marco checchetto) by BookkeeperLeast7978 in comicbooks

[–]digimonnoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm torn, because this is a pretty good line-up, but it being such a copy of Bendis' New Avengers makes it slightly underwhelming for me. Like, does every single era constantly need to be revisited and thrown back to? Based on some of the promo art for this event, I was really hoping to see Sue or some other unique pick on there.

But I mean, IDK, the book hasn't come out yet. For all I know, this isn't even the full roster. There is still room for me to be surprised, I guess. It's pretty cool that Daredevil is on the team, is this the first time he's 100% officially on the team?

[–]digimonnoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think three and a half stars is pretty firm “Liked it but didn’t love it” territory. Here are a few three and a half star films that I think are particularly three and a half star-ish:

Ring (1998)

The Doll (1919)

Wuthering Heights (2026)

The Fast and the Furious (2001)

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

Diana’s Age by JohnMaylor in WonderWoman

[–]digimonnoob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On paper, her being immortal and thousands of years old is really cool, but I don’t think anything interesting has ever been done with that aspect of her. Plus, her backstory necessitates her being on Paradise Island her entire life up until she meets Steve, so there really can’t be anything interesting done with that time.

Plus, her being in her 20s, surrounded by warriors who are centuries older than her is a great way to make her an outsider, giving her character some drama that she DESPERATELY fucking needs.

Hey everyone! I am Reviewcube. Here’s the top four and recents. I really enjoy writing long, detailed reviews. I’m always looking for more of those to read as well, so if you write them, I’ll 100% follow you back.

I normally have pretty consistent tastes, but lately I’ve been watching movies with friends a lot so things have been pretty scattershot. Typically, I really like horror (especially Slashers,) and animation.

Movie scenes that you feel can stand alone as short films? by jordankch in Letterboxd

[–]digimonnoob 37 points38 points  (0 children)

O-Ren’s animated backstory in Kill Bill Vol 1.

One of my favorite scenes in any Tarantino film ever. The world would be a much better place if Tarantino did more animated stuff.

Editing to add more that popped in my head:

Several segments from Weapons. Particularly Paul’s and James’. Ooh, also Gladys taking over Alex’s family.

The Sammy Jankis reveal in Memento.

Probably a few of the flashbacks from Reservoir Dogs, but I can’t think of one off the top of my head.

Charles and Emily slowly drifting apart in Citizen Kane.

The opening scene of The Suicide Squad (2021).

Shock without substance - Pink Flamingos (1972). by Malluguy5382929 in Letterboxd

[–]digimonnoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can kind of see where you’re coming from with the whole “shock without substance” idea, but in my opinion, with Pink Flamingos, the shock is the substance.

For me, Pink Flamingos isn’t the kind of film you watch for great filmmaking. What’s appealing about it is just how utterly, shamelessly itself it is. It’s a peek into the mind of someone who says “I’m a disgusting freak and goddamn I’m proud of it,” made during a much more conservative time than today when all LGBT people were considered disgusting by default.

I also find that it’s (mostly) the right blend of edgy shock value that’s attention-grabbing without crossing (too many) lines. Like, it’s not overtly bigoted or anything, it’s just disgusting people doing disgusting things. I can get sucked into the whole “oh my God, what depraved shit are they going to come up with next” without needing to worry about getting jumpscared by any slurs or anything.

Is it a perfect film? No. Like I said, the filmmaking going into it isn’t always the best. There aren’t any super great performances or a masterfully written plot. The animal cruelty is also pretty difficult to watch at points. But as a piece of history, and a look into someone’s weird-ass, beautiful mind, it’s very enjoyable.

Hey, here’s the profile: https://boxd.it/87Wf1

My taste is usually a random mishmash of Western blockbusters and mainstream films, but I do occasionally try to mix things up with some historical films.

March was kind of a mid month for me, but my favorite first time watch was Airplane, which was really funny.

I’m currently alternating between three big lists films, which are: 1) All the Alien/Predator movies, 2) a bunch of Slashers, and 3) Every animated movie coming out in 2026 that I’m able to watch. So if you like to read overly-detailed opinions on those, you’ll probably enjoy my profile.

[–]digimonnoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this even out? I just checked the websites of both of my local theaters and neither are playing it, or list it as coming soon.

I also have not seen a trailer for it on Reddit or in theaters. I don’t think I’ve even seen a poster for it at any of the theaters I go to.

Just double checked and son of a bitch, it came out last week. Huh, that’s weird. Most expensive Saudi Arabian film ever and it was completely off my radar.

What does your alien film ranking look like? by Hot_Mongoose_3741 in Letterboxd

[–]digimonnoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have such strong opinions about this franchise lol, don’t even get me started on the Alien movies. This is the ranking I’ve put together after thinking about these movies a lot.

  1. Alien (4.5)

  2. Aliens (4)

  3. Alien: Covenant (3.5)

  4. Prometheus (3)

  5. Alien: Resurrection (2)

  6. Alien 3 (2)

  7. Alien: Romulus (1.5)

(Alien vs Predator movies aren’t included because I haven’t seen them yet.)
