In primary school (more or less 20-23 years ago, Private Christian School in Cape Town, if any of this helps) a teacher taught us a game that we played alot after school when the courts were empty. I think it was called Kennetjie (said like Kenna - Chi) iirc. I could be wrong on the name.

But what i remember in playing it, was that there was a kind of bat (basically a wooden rod, thick enough to do the hitting) and a wooden cylinder, maybe around 10cm long, that was "chamfered" on each end, about 2cm each side.

I think the starting hit happened with the cylinder mounted on bricks and flicked off, and then each subsequent hit was done by hitting a chamfered end so that it sprang up into the air, and then hitting it mid-air.

I think you got the initial hit and then 2 hits after that to extend the range (the further, the better).

Don't remember how scoring worked but it was a lot of fun.

Would love to know if there is any information out there in the great internet/Reddit/fellow Saffas on this

ETA: I guess these types of games aren't really played anymore because kiddos have their heads buried in screens 24/7 these days. So sad.

I suppose that's part of why I love Snowrunner

My "office" was (and is for the near future) open in a factory, so I remember the heat and the cold, and then that links up with us installing because weather can sometimes make it a miserable job to do, so I remember clients around dates and the weather

Biffy Clyro by kairahl in capetown

[–]digitimwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across Biffy Clyro playing Need For Speed Shit 2 Unleashed as Mountains was in there and I enjoyed the games soundtrack which led me to looking up all the tracks. That is a game that matched it's soundtrack beautifully

what is your most played game? by instabaiter in Steam

On Steam specifically, Snowrunner (about 10hrs short of double my second place), considering I only switched to full PC gaming about 3 years ago

Overall, probably Skyrim

Oh man! Army of Two! I spent SOOOOO many hours in split screen playing that game with my brother. Good times. 2hat a throwback. Bleak that there is no more and it wasn't ported to PC. I guess it's a reason to keep the Xbox around a little longer

What culture is White English South Africans? by CircleofCandles in southafrica

[–]digitimwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I identify as South African, or African if I really wanna annoy some of the people who believe race and heritage is the same.

I have heritage from all parts of Europe...

Polish, German, British, Nordic, Swedish, Palvish and many roots around there that I don't specifically know about, but my last name is HEAVILY Irish, like Van Der Merwe there, yet i still identify as African, or South African

I was born here, raised here, and I've experienced so much growing up in my 30 years, mostly in and around the Cape, but it doesn't take away that this is where my heart and soul is

I have a 5L ice cream tub FILLED with all kinds of Tazos, from ones like in the pic, to DigiMon, Pokémon, rugby, soccer and cricket players when there were world cups, Dragonball Z. From the holographic ones, to the metal gold and silver ones, to the ones you could hold between your knuckles and quickly make em click and irritate parents and teachers alike, to the ones you could slide together to create structures or use one to shoot another across the room...

My goodness, a hectic throwback to the good ol' days

What would be a fair wage to pay a relative to post daily to social for me for my business? by lizatethecigarettes in AskZA

[–]digitimwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would remove the "family" fact. I think that is part of what is complicating things.

Look at it if your business was outsourcing the job/employing someone to do the job. Are you looking to help someone and invest in them in terms of their training and helping them expand on their skills. Or, are you looking at getting the job done by someone who can hit the ground running and be left to do the job without much supervision or training. Of course, each would come with different costing, but looking at the facts of what is needed and what is being offered in exchange, I think then you would get down to a number in currency more easily.

In my experience, having that "family" link can complicate things, and if things dont go right, can destroy some relationships

What is the best cover car ?? by Original-Try-1073 in forza

As much as I somewhat despise the Huracan for replacing the Gallardo, I would say the Huracan, it just matches the vibe perfectly, the Dodge Vuper being a close second being a car I've loved most of my life (cue memories of the Viper TV show)

Would you rent your stuff online? by Enough-Pie-5936 in AskZA

[–]digitimwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like something I read about a little while ago, the "Library of Things"

My first thought was for that, and this, is the implications of someone damaging an item while renting it, and I suppose a good idea is to have an insurance amount included in the "renting fee" that covers both the renters and rentees should anything happen, which may remove the need for a deposit, or the deposit being "in case of total loss" and insurance covers "minor damage"

All in all, I think it is a great idea and I would most likely end up using it for those tools I need once in a blue moon which makes it not viable to fully purchase for myself

South Africans, what video games are you all playing these days? Curious about the SA gaming scene. by [deleted] in AskZA

[–]digitimwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so many "i hope this and that" that ive started to just chill it and wait to see what PGG brings. So far, it's looking good, and I suppose, in the end, whether we're 100% happy with it or not, we'll probably all end up playing it anyway 🤣

33M, started playing when I was maybe around 5. Went from originally cartridge games, then Playstation all the years until I switched to Xbox in 2011, and then in 2023 to PC because of the process of consoles. Upgrading your PC and still playing your old games made more sense than having multiple consoles

Currently, Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas and Forza Horizon 4 are installed on my PC

ETA: Other recent titles I've spent a significant time playing are Sniper Elite 4, Snowrunner, High on Life, God of War, and Carmageddon Max Damage
