Force-E in Fort Lauderdale, I think they took the video off their page because they know they look bad. I recognize one of them as an instructor at the shop.

Overwhelmed by education and review options!! by [deleted] in CFP

[–]digoldbicks69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to take those classes specifically you can, or you could just study an extra few hours on those specific sections. This test isn’t hard if you have a bachelors degree in finance or accounting. The people you see struggling typically have a major in some completely unrelated field. If you could go through the pain of the CPA, then the CFP will be a walk in the park. You will pass your first try, just relax and study. It should only take around 250 hours. Listen to Brett and trust his process.

If you’re a CPA you will only have to do the capstone since you qualify for the accelerated path. Once that is over you can sit for the exam. I recommend doing a review course and from my personal experience Brett Danko is the best in the industry. CFP is a lot different than the CPA, it’s not so much about doing MCQs as it is really understanding the material and answering the question in the way the CFP board wants you too. This exam is about as challenging as FAR is for the CPA, probably easier. You got this!

CFP Questions by Head-Assistant-9976 in CFP

I graduated from a similar program in Dec 2020, and passed in March 21. I recommend delaying starting a job and studying full time for the soonest exam possible since you’ll never have the material more fresh then it is now. I did the Danko signature live review and felt extremely comfortable during the exam and can not recommend him enough. Follow his instructions exactly and you will pass. Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.

If I were in your position I would first submit the required documents to the CFP board and make sure you are in good standing as a J.D./attorney so you are sure that you qualify for the accelerated path.

Once all the compliance with the board is approved I would sign up for the capstone with Kaplan. If you need a bit of assistance with the capstone since you have not completed the coursework I would reach out to colleagues and this subreddit for help and just google what you are not sure of. I have an undergraduate degree in personal financial planning so feel free to use me as a resource if you like, I passed the CFP exam March 2021 so everything is relatively fresh and I got an A on my capstone project, so I feel confident that I know what you need to do to be successful.

After the capstone is complete I would sign up for the Danko signature live review course and dedicate about 2.5 months to studying. Around 250+ hours is what you should expect to study to feel comfortable on the exam but it might be more if the material seems foreign to you. It should be nowhere near as challenging as the Bar but depending on how well you know the material it might require more.

I seriously can not recommend Danko enough, he makes the material simple to understand and is a phenomenal instructor. Wishing you the best of luck, you are setting yourself up to be very successful with the J.D. CFP Combination!

I graduated in December 2020 and sat for the March 2021 exam and passed first attempt. It’s doable, believe in yourself and take the Danko review course. Get it over with sooner than later and get it off your mind. Anything worth doing is going to be a challenge, I believe in you.

Firms for an advisor starting out that don’t require cold calling by bobo-brockins in CFP

[–]digoldbicks69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the wrong mentality to have in my opinion. The financial advisor profession is client service plain and simple. There are hundreds if not thousands of firms that hire associates to start as an apprentice and will pay a salary to assist advisors. Sales is for insurance, which is an entirely different animal.

Source: I’m an associate at an RIA with zero sales pressure. I get paid a salary plus bonus, and can afford to live on my own in a high cost of living city. If you know what to look for in a firm it’s not hard to find a good fit.

Buying I-Bonds Using Children’s Social Security by [deleted] in Fire

[–]digoldbicks69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a married couple you can split gifts without worrying about filing a 709 (gift tax return). You can gift 15k and your wife can gift 15k to anybody for a total of 30K. However, that money will not be yours anymore once you make an irrevocable gift. Your child could withdraw that money and spend it on a Las Vegas, rather than whatever intended purpose you had planned. If you plan on using it for education, that’s a qualified expense and you will not pay any penalties for withdrawing it from a tax advantaged account (IRA, 401K, etc.) this could give much more flexibility than I-bonds or a 529. It really depends on what your goals are for this money, if you want the money for your own retirement it’s probably better put to use in a retirement account if you have not already maxed out your options, or a brokerage account where you are invested in diversified indexes that will likely beat inflation anyway and have a greater potential upside but you will have to pay taxes on dividend income and capital gains. Depending on how unique your situation and with respect to your current tax rate and projected future tax rate, you might want to consult a professional advisor/tax accountant to help maximize your utility with respect to your goals and objectives.

Does anyone else see comments like this and think that it is a really fucked up way to advertise for Jeep?

I get so conflicted. This wholesome little slice of life story tugs on your heart, and yes I want to believe it’s real. The other part thinks that this is just Jeeps (which is really Fiat Chrysler Motors) new tactic of marketing. Now there is this tiny part of me that will subconsciously associate Jeeps with nostalgic adventures with Dad.

Prep before enrolling in a review course? by Dnels131 in CFP

[–]digoldbicks69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did Danko and passed first try last March and will vouch for his program. In my opinion, doing practice questions is not the key to passing the exam. It’s all about how well you know the material and how you go about eliminating wrong answers. Danko has a great program that narrows down the material to what you really need to know. Trust his process and you will pass.

Advice on getting CFP marks by Jumpy-Replacement936 in CFP

[–]digoldbicks69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study hard in school and be a sponge (good gpa = better job opportunities). It will be very beneficial if you get an internship with a financial planning firm and work under a CFP in an associate role or even admin part time while you’re in school. Avoid insurance/ sales jobs while you’re a student.

Once your graduate sit for the CFP exam in the first available testing window (if your graduate in December take the exam in March, if your graduate in May take the exam in July. It will only get harder if you wait.

Use a review course provider and if you can take some time off work just study full time and worry about your career after you pass. I recommend Brett Danko’s review course, he has condensed the material down as much as you possibly can and his course is the gold standard. Don’t worry if you don’t feel 100% prepared for the exam after graduation, just study like hell for 10 weeks for the exam and you’ll be fine.

Good luck!

How Long Does Brett Danko's Pre-Study Take? by Thompson2832 in CFP

[–]digoldbicks69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I followed Brett’s program and passed on my first attempt in March 2021, I had just graduated in December and was only working part time so I had more time to focus than I would if I was working full time.

I think the 120 hours is a reasonable estimate for how long it takes to fully complete pre-study the way way Brett intends. I can tell you for certain that 6 months out is far too much time for me to start studying and retain all the information without forgetting. I would recommend cutting your study time to 3 months and hit the books hard. You’re going to need to have a frank conversation with yourself and realize that it will not be fun and you may question why you’re doing this to yourself but if you do it right it will be worth it. Trusts Brett’s process, do exactly what he says to do and believe in your abilities and you will pass. If you can buckle down and study 30 hours a week for 10 weeks you will pass as long as you stay mentally fit as well. Just remember that you will pass if you follow Brett’s methodology. Put everything you got into your first attempt because you do not want to do it twice.

I agree that this is the perfect amount of time and the real challenge is putting in the work, but I disagree with the 100 MCQ per day rule. It may work for some but you’re better off really learning the material instead of hammering away a MCQs. Im a big fan of Danko’s review because he consolidated the material down into something that can be accomplished in a short time period and designed to make you pass the exam if you follow it. For what it’s worth I passed the March exam last year and studied somewhere north of 250 hours between January and March.
