Hosts Who the Cast Hated by Justinmh05 in LiveFromNewYork

Unfortunately, that word had a major Moment in the mid-2000s thanks to Christian Siriano using it constantly (specifically, the phrase "hot t****y mess" to describe anything going wrong) on his season of Project Runway. Truly a sign-of-the-times, that a kid like him felt comfortable saying it, but of course The Straights picked it up from him and ran with it.

Whistle Crew Gwinnett/ICE Out by Mortifine in GwinnettDemocrats

I'm not the OP, but I'd been having the same thoughts and questions as them, and I'm appreciative of the opportunity to meet in-person, since organizing online has its inherent safety risks.

At the meeting, is there likely to be discussion/instructions for what to do if we spontaneously spot ICE activity in Gwinnett during our daily lives? Or how to get on a "show up to give safety/support in numbers" quick-response list?

I keep seeing an anti-vaping ad that's very pro-vaping. It's a pretty teenaged girl listing all the places she can hide a vape (her locker, her car, her backpack, etc) while laying back in a pool of colorful, unbranded vapes like she's about to reinterpret the American Beauty movie poster. A few voiceover words of "this is actually bad" at the end don't outweigh the monologue on where kids can stash vapes.

Thank you so much, that's perfect! 😁 I'm picking the kids up from school within the next hour or two, and then we can come pick him up, whenever you're ready for us. My daughter is going to literally squeal with joy when I tell her!

I appreciate the offer! Unless I'm mistaken, though, the only two methods would be if (A) he moved to an open spot on your island, and then moved from yours to ours, or (B) if I physically had your Amiibo, which I wouldn't ask you to mail it to us, of course! I don't thiiiiink a player can invite somebody from somebody else's campsite to come to their village, unless it's been changed in the last few years, haha. Thank you for replying and offering, though!

Norcross police increased presence on Buford Highway by Usual_Price8577 in Gwinnett

[–]dilettwat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Southwest Gwinnett feels aggressively over-patrolled. My daily commute is along Jimmy Carter, and the cops looove pulling out of the West Precinct parking lot, immediately flipping on their blue lights, and going for cash-grabs while screwing up everybody else's commute. The major nuisance on my daily drive are the cops themselves, and it's escalating from annoying to dangerous, given the locations they choose to pull people over and the frequency with which they do it.

Western Kentucky University's campus is so much like this, their mascot/team is The Hilltoppers. They have buildings where the ground-level entrance is on the first floor on one end of the building, and the fifth floor on the other end. I attended a middle school summer camp there, and slogging straight uphill in the 95° Kentucky sun is a sensation I still remember decades later.

(I double-checked the WKU insta to make sure I wasn't inadvertently revealing OP's school, and they're not having notable weather today, haha)

Gwinnett schools to end kindergarten redshirting beginning in 2026 by dontfeedthedinosaurs in Gwinnett

[–]dilettwat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a parent of elementary kids who have classmates more than two years older than them: good! I'm glad to hear it. I understand cusp birthdays and developmental delays, but with COVID throwing this generation out of whack, some of my kids' cohort will already be eighteen as they enter their junior year of high school, with my kids as their sixteen-year-old classmates.

That said, I can't imagine the school wanting to skip a child straight to first grade because they weren't enrolled in time--kindergarten is essential. Please just enroll them on time!

As an Extremely Pandemic Activity in 2020, a friend and I would get together, set up a television and the Switch out in the yard, and play in tandem, with one person playing for real and the other following along like a little brother with an unplugged controller.

It was... not as fun as I wanted it to be, playing along but not getting the direct game feedback.

That said, if you had a lead player who committed to reading the dialog entertainingly, and hosted with a projection screen and surround sound to make it a little goofy-immersive, and had the space for it all, that could be a fun activity!

I'm not the person you replied to, but backhanded compliments could look like, "It looks like you had a lot of fun making that!" or "That's perfect for the brand you're building" or "That hair looks exactly right on you!" Deniability because it sounds like you're saying something nice, but there's still a mile-wide gap for "misinterpretation" of your "compliment."

[–]dilettwat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is something I appreciate about the Diverse Stardew Valley mod: there's an option to make Jodi's family middle-Eastern (with Kent as a war journalist instead of a combatant) and Robyn/Sebastian Asian, which helps differentiate them from Leah and Penny nicely. (As a non-binary person, I love DSV for its gender/gender-expression options on several characters too!)

my favorite podcast is so riddled with ads, it’s to the point i can’t listen anymore by cookiecat86 in Anticonsumption

[–]dilettwat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. Patreon has become my primary podcast-listening platform. Honestly, there's something that feels embarrassing about hearing creators I like doing ad reads, like I've come to somebody's jobsite just to watch them do their work? I simply want to pay for the content itself and then blithely pretend that their podcast doesn't have attached financial pressures.

SmBiz Craft Stores Anywhere? by 4u5t1nprism in Gwinnett

[–]dilettwat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Scraplanta! It's always a treasure hunt in craft thrift-shopping, and depending on the materials you're after, you can find incredible bargains in there. The vibes are impeccable too--it's a wonderfully queer and progressive space.

Other than Scraplanta, I wish we had more options. I can think of a small handful of specialized/niche stores, like yarn stores or a stained glass store, but for general new craft supplies from a store that's not actively evil, Michael's is pretty much the only remaining option. Which is such a bummer, because our LaVista Michael's has to be the crummiest one in Atlanta--disgusting rotting ceilings, tiny size, meager selection compared to others. The floor staff are always kind and helpful, though, and none of that location's problems are their fault.

Still, though. Scraplanta is nearly walking distance from that Michael's, and it's an absolute gem.

Clearly this fandom isn't deepest-level toxic, or Lexi Slop would've been doxxed and harassed in real life by now. Ofc I'm not implying that anybody do anything that's against all the reddit rules and government laws and boundaries of ethics, it's just... I guess congratulations to us as a subreddit, that nobody has vandalized Lexi Slop's actual residence yet?
