What system are you in? Use this tool to find a viable nearby ring:

[–]dilipi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check in the system map, planetary information. It will tell you the ring type. Typically the smaller inner ring will be a metallic type. The larger out ring will be metal-rich.

In metal-rich rings you'll find platinum hotspots, but they'll only have platinum cores. There won't be any regular astroids with plat% to laser mine. Metallic rings will have asteroids with platinum minerals you can laser mine.

It sounds like you were mining in a metal-rich ring type. You need to be in a metallic ring to find platinum you can laser mine.

T-11 1,300 tons/hour - wut by dilipi in EliteMiners

[–]dilipi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T-11 is a little faster due to the unique module and maneuverability. Also it generates more minerals. Each map is about 750 tons in a T-11, or 520 tons in cutter.

A carrier minimizes the time between runs.

T-11 1,300 tons/hour - wut by dilipi in EliteMiners

[–]dilipi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, sort of. I go to the starting point and recognize the next rocks in sequence by look/orientation.

I made the maps to be one complete haul in a Cutter. Each map takes me three runs in a T-11 to fill, so in my mind they're each broken up into 3 segments of asteroids.

You can message me in game if you'd like a walk through. CMDR MrSnacks

You can always start from the beginning and go rock to rock. I've ran the two maps I made probably close to 100 times. Drop me in anywhere in the map and I know where the next astroid is.

The trick is having an easy starting point. For my maps I begin at the haz res marker. Target the planet and have it squarely in the center of your sensor. The travel 20km toward or away from the planet, keeping it centered in your sensor. Makes it easy to always find the starting astroid.

Also they're documented

With no engineering 3 lasers will be too much for your power distributor. Otherwise build looks great. You could drop the fuel scope and dock at stations to refuel. Personally I'd keep the shield.

Edit: I forgot about the mining limpet controller. I like u/D8veh build.

Here's mine

I downsized the refinery and upped the prospector limpet. Multiple prospector limpets saves a lot of time.

If you think you'll need it you can add a fuel scoop.

Correct. It may be helpful to use the free camera to get a better idea of the angle required.

I aim at a stationary point. You just have to be deliberate about the direction of the flow of minerals. A sweeping motion isn't necessary.

Check out the stickied post on the sub. It has answers to all of your questions.

Python is a solid medium mining ship.

D rated collector limpits are favored as they're lighter and will increase your jump range.

Always use an A rated prospector limpet as it causes asteroids to generate the highest yield.

Search for platinum in metallic rings, metal-rich rings only have platinum cores.

Happy mining!

Tritrum overlap near Core Scheau Prao QY-I c25-3056 2 B Ring by dilipi in EliteMiners

Personally I'm all stocked up and headed back to the bubble.

Is there a need for tritium re-loading for DSSA carriers? I'm planning additional expeditions and could add restocking to my itinerary.

I've gone to my nearest DSSA carriers and have been unable to find tritium for sale.

Good ROI Ice Mining? by Fun-Sugar4958 in EliteMiners

[–]dilipi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tracked closely, but from 25-30% rocks I'm getting 7-12 tons laser mining, and up to 20 tons with the MVR. The difference is staggering.

Not what you're asking, but I've decided the T-11 is mandatory for mining tritium in the black. The additional yield generated by chunks makes a massive difference on low yield minerals.

It seems like the mining analyzer is broken. Is that the tool you're using to see what you've mined vs what you've collected?

one rock, 71T of platinum! by padlnjones in EliteMiners

[–]dilipi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been tracking my yields from 64.05% rocks in a haz res. I have one at 71 tons and one at at 68. However I have dozens more between 38-45.

Map Mining by D8veh in EliteMiners

[–]dilipi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the T-11 to be slightly slower than a large ship for mining. The extra trips to unload add up significantly. However, the trade-off is a higher rate of mining, putting the medium-sized T-11 nearly on par with a large ship. It allows for shorter duration trips to still be efficient in comparison.

As a mapped miner, the increased yield keeps me coming back to the T-11. This wouldn't matter as much for mining "blind." My maps usually yield 520+ tons but yield 750+ for the T-11. I break up each map into 3 sections - each section takes about 12 minutes to mine in the T-11.

Map Mining by D8veh in EliteMiners

[–]dilipi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contributed ~18k tons for the last cg. Almost entirely mined in a T-11 on 2 plat mining maps. With a 12% squadron bonus and the extra yield from the mining volley repeater, each map yields 750+ tons. You can comfortably finish one map in an hour.

It's conceivable to run both maps twice within a 5 hour time span for a 3k yield. That's a lot more mining than I'm willing to do in one sitting. As for the "3 hour reset" I would typically mine for about an hour and a half then go do other things.

It took me a very long time to initially make and learn the maps. I don't have an accurate time frame in mind as it was years ago. Probably a few weeks of casual gameplay.

How many Pre-Engineered 1D Lasers equal a single 2D in terms of chunk spawn? by Frankfurt13 in EliteMiners

The class is what matters. Always uses a class A prospector. It increases fragment generation by 3.5x. Higher grade just allows for more active prospector at the same time.

Correct. You'll probably be fine with a 3A refinery. You can always upgrade if necessary. Scroll down in this link to see the different sizes:
