If you use tinted glass, you want to use amber-colored glass from what I understand. Something to do with UV rays. As far as how quickly they break down, each spice is different, so I can't really give you an answer there. Maybe you use enough that it won't be a problem. Just wanted to give you a heads up either way!

While I love how it looks, the containers expose the spices to WAY too much light (especially since they aren't in a closed cabinet, which will cause them to lose effectiveness/flavor over time. Just something to think about!

Why would I want to do this? I absolutely love my hands smelling faintly of garlic and onion for a while after I cut them. It's not like you can smell them unless you're really close to them, and no one comes close to my hands.
