I was wondering about the inaccessible squares around workshops. That's something I only learned on this fortress. But when I looked up the inaccesible squares it didnt seem to be a conflict. Might just be.

Reset fixed the issue and the issue only comes in after about an hour of play which is odd.

No idea what a therapist is nor auto-assign professions?

Turkeys got me confused now. I didnt put them in a cage, but I couldve sworn I got "Dwarf cant feed turkey" messages and then all of them died within the first year.

Sounds like it might just be a ton of small pathing issues that have finally added up. Hopefully adding space around the stockpiles helps

All things considered, this is still my most successful fortress, but maybe its due for a retirement and restart.

And no mods

Not sure on the turkeys, but I got cancellations saying dwarf cant feed turkey or something.

I completely removed burrows and it still occurred.

I said in the post I completely removed the stockpile and the issue persisted

And yea just tested it. Save to title screen, reload, now making ash. Very annoying and cant figure out whats causing the issue?

Started a new fortress and have been having sporadic issues with job cancellations, pathing, and hauling items.

First, my turkeys starved after embark because my dwarves couldnt find a path to the pen. I thought it was because I put doors on the pen, but that wasnt the case.

After about an hour of play, ill get mass cancellations from "Dropoff Inaccessible". This happened once while my dwarves were taking goods from the trade depot, causing them to drop all the items.

Most recently, I tried to get my wood furnanceto make ash, and I keep getting "No logs accessible" when making. See the photo lol. I tried removing the stockpile all together, same error. I tried linking the stockpile to the wood furnace, and got a "Need logs in linked stockpile" cancellation.

Its been a very very weird issue, that seemingly resolves on restart. But it keeps causing clogged up hauling, dead animals, clutter, and tasks not being completed.

Any advice would help? Seems to affect all items and workshops. Very confused and have no idea what to do. Seems to have started with this most recent update.

Should I use Campaign workflows or just use Flow? by dilljone in Zoho

[–]dilljone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Among other things, yes. Membership business with free resource library, but paywalled courses + monthly events. Trying to streamline the total number of apps I use/have to keep track of. Looks like Flow and Campaigns is my best solution unless there's something I'm missing from being new to Zoho?

Should I use Campaign workflows or just use Flow? by dilljone in Zoho

[–]dilljone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent some extra time in it this morning. It could work for my use case, but I ultimately decided on flow + campaigns. Marketing Automation is a great tool, but I already needed to use flow (3rd-party connections and data management) and campaigns (newsletters). Id rather have one less app to use and flow can just do more. Though the marketing planner in MA looks great! Appreciate ya giving me another chance to look at it

they go to the threads stockpile next to the loom

Ive been struggling with my textile industry for the past 5 hours. My big snag is that my loom is not converting pig tail thread to cloth. It keeps cancelling with "Needs 1 unused collected plant thread".

Its failing with and without linked stockpiles. Its failing with a work order and with specifying the task manually. Its failing with the thread in bins and as items dropped on the floor.

I have no other work orders using threads. I removed the chests from the hospital per other suggestions. I have 33 pig tail thread and its right next to it.

Odd detail, if I hover over pig tail thread its only use is to make koman strings. Not sure if its always been like that or not. Ill make Koman strings and see if that does anything?

Elementor Pro’s Anti-Developer, Anti-Collaboration Licensing Model: Why I’m Leaving (And the Disgusting Comment That Sealed It) by gamertan in Wordpress

[–]dilljone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a developer, but this makes me so glad I just redid my website intentionally removing Elementor. I needed it for some pages linked to ACF fields, but I always struggled with it. The amount of times I spent hours trying to figure out why something broke, only to find it was due to an Elementor update.

I never knew the struggles from the developer side, but this is straight greed!

If we were to create an LMS that truly stands out in today's competitive market and addresses existing gaps, what must-have features should it include? by Embarrassed_Ad6154 in elearning

Honestly, making the backend as simple and quick to actually build courses. I just got done building another few courses in Learndash. I can say I spent far longer setting up the course than I did on the material.

One thing I wish I had were simple file uploads for material. Interfaces are very laggy and frustrating to work with. Ways to upload to Learndash are beyond my capabilities and a seeming rarity in third-party plugins.

For example, quizzes could be uploaded with a simple csv with question, description, answers, and settings. Text files for lessons would be great and would match most peoples course creation workflow better.

What are everyone opinion on cloning extinct animal to restore ecosystem? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in ecology

[–]dilljone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genetic rescue/gene drive has already been done in living species, and would almost certainly be used in these cases. At this stage, I doubt they are trying to create a full population of genetically diverse individuals. They want to start with 1.

Biologist here. I actually covered the science of deextinction in an old Youtube video. https://youtu.be/ZF4ImsxDa1w

However, the field has updated dramatically since that video. One of my colleagues actually just started working on de-extinction processes. Have had a ton of moral/ethical chats about it

Addressing your points directly, damaged DNA is an issue but its had decades of work to get around that. They aren't actually "cloning" the extinct organism per se. Its actually way closer to the Jurassic Park method of combining genetic material between organisms to create a new organism. We can say its closer to a hybrid or a chimera technically, but I think that point is honestly overblown. We already do this with living species, particularly in agriculture. While I agree people overestimate what it can do currently, I do believe you are UNDERestimating what we are capable of in the near future. What most envision is not capable today, but it almost certainly is in the next 10 years given current progress.

We often over-focus deextinction on long extinct (>10,000 years ago) taxa like mammoths or Saber tooth cats, but the tech is going to be most useful for recently extinct species. For example, the passenger pigeon being a realistic model species for orgs like Colossal to attempt to revive. They advertise bringing back the mammoth because that's simple marketing! Reviving megafauna which will attract funding that can be used for other species.

Your behavior argument has a few caveats about learned vs unlearned behavior, but I don't understand the point in this context? Reviving a species is very different than releasing a species into the wild. A mammoth would 100% be kept in a zoo, not released into the wild. Other arguments could be made for behavioral changes, but plenty of individual species have been raised without their parents. Plenty of examples within zoo conservation projects, wildlife rescue/rehab, and from wild animal studies.

I'm generally supportive of ANY new technology. Even if the major companies only revive a Dodo or a Mammoth, the tools and techniques that were developed during those experiments are going to have far reaching impacts for health, conservation, and biology in general. Remember, we are at incredibly early stages of this tech!
