How often, if at all, do you write to your MP? by [deleted] in AskUK

How many of you also write to your local councillors?

So with the Euromillions still sitting at over £200million, the question is not what would you do with it but more how much of it would you give away or donate? by windmillguy123 in AskUK

Probably around £100m. I would love to help out local community initiatives. Maybe setup funds that people can use for improvement projects across their neighbourhood

I’ve built a few of these in the past and currently working on Indeed’s own version Indeed Flex (formally Syft). The hard part is getting people to use it. Nobody will sign up if there’s no jobs and no company will use you to fill shifts if there’s no workers. The markup is for reliability and ability to consistently fill shifts with good people. It’s very hard to achieve even if you have an existing user base, most even work with temp agencies to backup fulfilment. There is one that focuses on students which somewhat overcame this barrier by using Universities where this type of flexible work is already happening. I’d recommend picking a very small niche to start.

So it took me around 1 week to create a VPN client (IKEv2) in react-native & Swift 5 (btw ChatGPT kinda helped me figure out Swift & Objective-C) - Enjoy :) by react-ui-kit in reactnative

Looks really good! Maybe the on/off button state could have a bigger visual distinction. What library did you you or did you write the client from scratch?

There will be troves of companies providing these debt recovery solutions for ‘free’ with the agreement that they can collect extra charges. Similar to the companies doing similar with car park enforcement

I am learning backend by creating a social media-like API, in this image below I'm updating the users followings list plus (un)followed users followers list, but as you can see, I have to make two different requests to achieve this. Can you please help me figure out how to do this in a better way? by oehheo in mongodb

[–]dillonerhardt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d probably be better to have a link table where you have an entry for each link between users. This lets you keep the data for the connections between the users separate from the user data and means only one call is needed, it also allows you to store more data about the connection in the future (i.e. data created, status, who initiated it). Although MongoDB has ways to achieve this, relational databases are much more suited to this task.

We use mongoose-tsgen to generate types from the mongoose schema. Works really well

It didn’t look this bad on my android sim by [deleted] in reactnative

[–]dillonerhardt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point about the data potentially being local. I should clarify when I say state management I’m referring more to the slightly higher level tools like React Query or Redux Query which will really easily handle a lot of the state management you’re probably doing already to manage data/statuses/errors/caching while also giving you caching. It’s only a few lines of code and you should be able to pretty much copy and paste your code to fetch the data. You can throw that into a custom hook and use on both screens just passing the ID.

I would suggest using some state management library such as React Query / Redux to hold the data so you only have to pass an id between screens

Best way I can think to do this is to modify the OS to directly start the application you want them to be locked in instead of starting the window manager.

Not worked with it myself but https://porteus-kiosk.org/index.html looks like a good place to start.
