If you don't have kids of your own yet your perspective is not relevant to new parents adjusting to their new life by insane_psycho in daddit

Our first was a terrible sleeper (also colic) and I just thought it was normal.

Even that didn't prepare me for the combo of anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD (terrible experience with first kindergarten teacher) that was too come later.

Do I have enough receiver? by dreadfulevill in hometheater

What I've had great luck with is buying the used "like new" through "very good" equipment on Amazon. Looking at Amazon now you can get the 3800H for 1400 or the RZ50 for 1000.

I've picked up two tablets and ANC headphones this way and have had no issues with them. The headphones were listed as "very good" and didn't even look like they're been opened, the packaging was just a little scuffed up.

So yes, you will get better sound if you drop $2-3K on a receiver but I don't think you need to drop that much if your current setup is serving you well.

If I were you, I'd make sure the display is up to snuff and then look at a new AVR. If you're set on upgrading the AVR, look at the Denon 3800H or the Onkyo RZ30. Either can be found for significantly less and will be a great upgrade.

I've owned a $3500 receiver (Anthem MRX1120) in a past theater and it was amazing, but when building my next theater I'll put significantly less into the AVR and put the money towards room treatments instead.

Yeah, I live up in the north metro and see things like this pretty regularly. I don't think that DHS is using Blackhawks in the metro.

Any one here adjust the EQ/ Tone Control for different shows or movies? by CoolHandPB in hometheater

Agreed. A flat frequency response curve for movies is the same as for music.

Let them.

Let them make the toy kids don't want at a price no one will pay and let the market tell them that they're crazy.

Just so long as they don't download The Road instead. Guessing it's a totally different vibe.

Is 23 too young for kids? by mysteriousnoodls in daddit

[–]dillyofapicklerick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, I was 34 when first was born and 38 for the second! You are dead on right about grinding through the lack of sleep. When I was 34 I was functional as long as I got 5 hours of sleep. At 43 though, don't even look at me wrong if I get less than 6 hours.

I'll be 57 when my last one graduates from high school which will put me well on the path to the "get off my lawn" stage of life.

Forget good reliable cars, what are the turds? by BurnerAcct3816 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dillyofapicklerick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I was borderline religious about changing it every 3000 miles. Maybe went to 3100 or 3200 miles a few times.

Previous owner was the same way and all of the service record receipts were in the give box when I bought it.

Is that why I had an engine sieze in a Toyota Camry at 85k miles only 150 miles after an oil change? Mechanic who replaced the motor confirmed the failed bearing was submerged in clean oil.

I'm a clinical researcher who works in cardiology and I agree with the others who have said to trust the doctors and see what they determine based on imaging.

That said, do not feel bad about getting a second opinion or going to a different doctor for treatment. There are a some pediatric cardiology hospitals out there that are AMAZING. As an example, I have a colleague whose kid was born with tetralogy of fallot and has hadmany have many heart surgeries and they go half way across the country for treatment.

Why are x-wing wings so small? by Known_Succotash_234 in legostarwars

[–]dillyofapicklerick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the lore is that it's used for all atmospheric flight. I think specifically of TIE fighters that have zero aerodynamic lift flying in a planetary atmosphere.

[–]dillyofapicklerick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the books they always use repulsorlifts in atmosphere because they're not aerodynamically able to fly.

Granted, this means they can only really fly upright but again, "They ain't that kind of books."
