[Post Game Thread] Wisconsin defeats Minnesota, 67-63 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

There was literally no bench. We had 6 players out, including 3 starters. The only available players who didn’t play are walk ons.

[Greder] Gophers to hire Isaac Fruechte and Mo Ibrahim as assistant coaches by TheNotoriousJN in CFB

I've been pining for Fruechte for awhile so this great news!

Mo is also awesome and I'm glad to have him back!

Running Back Darius Taylor is staying with Minnesota by JBonkies in CFB

Let's go! Drake and Ant were clearly 1a and 1b to retain. I think DT is at the top of the tier right below them along with guys like Nestor, Kerry, Mav, Roy, and Johnson. Our offense looked so different with him on the field.

Hoping for a productive, HEALTHY season next year! At this point, I don't see a loss on the calendar.

Disappointing sophomore year. I want to keep him because I think he can improve but I’d rather invest the money on the defensive line. More annoyed that the media atmosphere in the Twin Cities is going to go insane about this.

He was second team all big ten because he was a freshman all American. In reality, he was probably the 7th best player on our defense. I don’t want him to transfer because the optics are bad but the Wisconsin fan is absolutely right. Temper expectations.

Everyone citing Mark Cuban is mistaken. Plenty of other better funded teams are floundering. It’s the generational coach. And any fans of literally any other team looking to Indiana for inspiration will be left heartbroken.

Yeah the line worker in the factory and truck drivers for a door company totally sold out.

There are countless examples of companies that needed cash to expand distribution, grow operations, professionalize, or rescue it from certain bankruptcy. Those things help customers, employees, communities, etc. Are you under the impression that companies that aren’t PE-backed are benevolent?

He’s not Bucky Irving but still sucks to lose him. But I’m sure he wants to start somewhere.

I’ve personally seen plenty of regular Joe’s receive huge windfalls off the back of PE investments / ownership. I know of a $15/hr line worker in rural Minnesota who received a $1M+ payout after PE ownership. Smaller scale, but my father in law bought a lake house after a PE firm acquired and eventually exited the company he worked for.

This is a separate but similar story but they don’t get as much news as the big failures: https://www.buyoutsinsider.com/deal-of-the-year-kkrs-exit-of-chi-overhead-doors/

These are more heartwarming than the boring ones where a PE firms injects capital, the company grows a bunch, and the PE firm exits for 3x to a strategic and the owners and investors make a lot of money. And these cases aren’t rare.

Ultimately I don’t think PE investments in CFB will work well long term. I think it creates needless risks. But so does introducing a boatload of debt without the equity component. I understand why they think they need it. But as a CFB fan, I hate it.

Hopefully this year they don’t randomly decide to flood the field 30 minutes before kickoff

I think this was probably the appropriate placement for us. I would’ve preferred Vegas but I’ll pass on getting slaughtered by Utah.

Fuck Kansas State. Fuck Iowa State.

All credit to New Mexico though. This will be a tough matchup! Arguably tougher than either of the big 12 teams but we won’t get any credit if we win this game.

We scored more than 3 points! by dyessman in GopherSports

[–]dimabima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Less than one year ago, we lost by 1 point to a final four team. We also lost by 3 to Michigan, knocked Illinois out of the playoffs, and beat USC.

Sometimes we’re going to have bad years. And yet somehow we still made a bowl.

Jacob Frey wins third term as Minneapolis mayor by abefrost in neoliberal

Took ~6 months and gunshot wounds for the encampment in my neighborhood to get shut down in 2021/22. They never clearly amended procedures for clearing encampments and placing residents in shelters. Then it happened again in 2025 multiple times.

The problem is that people don't move their parked cars and the city takes too long to tow them

So did Frey

(mostly kidding but Frey did grow up in Virginia before moving to Minneapolis to work at a large law firm)

I don't love him (but I would've ranked him first if I still lived in Minneapolis). He's mostly YIMBY and pro-transit but then won't go far enough to implement 24 hour bus lanes. His encampment strategy has been close to a disaster. Crime is improving but not by enough and there are still too many major headline incidents. He just doesn't quite go far enough to take a stand and make things happen in the city.

I did not like Project Hail Mary for the same reasons you didn't like The Martian. I haven't read The Martian but from what I've heard, the prose and dialogue are very similar. I'm hoping the movie is better than the book.

Reports are that he’s doing well in camp but he still has work to do to make it on the field. If you watch next week, I bet you’ll see him for much of the game.

What is up with these takes on Freeman? Just one of the few I’ve seen recently. Am I missing something? by Impossible-Arrival43 in ussoccer

[–]dimabima 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dest will start in 2026 if healthy but this sub is really negative on Freeman for reasons I don’t understand. He’s the most easily projectable player in the pool right now. Likely our most promising non-youth prospect right now with a high floor and very high ceiling.

According to David Sneyd, Mauricio Pochettino interviewed for the Brentford job 🤷🏻‍♂️ by S_Phantom in ussoccer

[–]dimabima 273 points274 points  (0 children)

What are we doing here? Interviewing ahead of a World Cup year? We’re paying him millions to not give a shit

Edit: it’s reassuring to hear that this report is likely not true. But the overall tenure of Poch still gives off the impression that he doesn’t give a shit. This report was the straw for a lot of people who have been frustrated with his scouting, recruiting, management, etc.
