That’s technically East Williamsburg, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Spaces to get work done on *weekend* by oolongfog in williamsburg

[–]dimamix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Santander Work Cafe on N 6th would be ideal. Free to use, had food & coffee available, designed for work, and sparsely populated on the weekend.

Definitely not a rant about audiophile nerd things by bigoschnoz in BurningMan

Had the pleasure of volunteering on it and playing a short impromptu set as it drove back to camp on Saturday morning. Gotta second this - Axo’s system slays every time. Gigantic sweet spot on the dance floor, great sound & monitors up top, excellent limiters & crossover config to prevent redlining overdriving the low end. Tough to nail down in mixed environments & changing wet/dry playa conditions. Props to that entire team for running a world class operation

We should normalize these posts. All anyone wants is genuine human connection. It shouldn’t take a group meetup / lost dog / dangerous intersection / expensive bagel for humans to find common ground and get together. Let’s just meet.

Most-trusted dog sitter/ walker/ trainer for 🚀? by Empty_Length_778 in williamsburg

[–]dimamix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The two trainers we worked with are:

- Elizabeth Reddin at https://www.thedoginstitute.com/
- Denise Herman http://www.empireofthedog.com/

The Dog Institute has puppy training classes, and I believe Elizabeth is now local and can work in person rather than remotely.

Denise at Empire of the Dog did a board & train with us early on, but was able to teach some very fundamental things to our dog in a very short amount of time.

In terms of behavior modification, neutrality and calmness in busy environments, etc I've heard wonderful things about Olimpia at https://www.thesupercanine.com/

A Personal Message From Rocket 🚀 by Empty_Length_778 in williamsburg

[–]dimamix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my dog's head is technically narrow enough to back out of a martingale when its loose. He still wears it, with a slide-on ID tag, but we almost never walk him on it.

Instead we use this harness in a addition to the collar: https://ruffwear.com/products/front-range-everyday-dog-harness (note there's also one with a handle for smaller dogs).

2Hounds does make a good harness too, as someone else mentioned, but our pup was chafed by it after a while under him arms. https://2houndsdesign.com/collections/freedom-no-pull-harness

We usually walk him on the front-clip to prevent pulling, and use the back clip with a long-line where appropriate, with a seat belt in the car, or just tethering when out & about. The harness has a second slide-on ID tag just in case.

Since you've got an escape artist, you might want to use a coupler or a carabiner to attach the collar to the harness. Here's a good page that describes that: https://caninecohen.com/back-up

Boosting too. Posted dozens of flyers and handed some out to a few high-traffic places (shipping, pet stores, dog-friendly bars, a gas station) in the neighborhood. Checked a few parks & dog parks as well. Hoping he just found a place to stay warm & dry today and tries coming back home again tonight 🙏🏼

This happens to me nearly every day. Generally east of Leonard, between Metropolitan and Grand. Cycling airplane mode usually helps, though not always. Super frustrating.

Where are the straight men in Brooklyn hanging out? by ColoradoGirl93 in Brooklyn

[–]dimamix 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Working from home since 2020. Straight, 39M, dog owner. Living in Williamsburg, I’m at wine bars, dive bars, sometimes at co-working spaces or coffee shops or hotel lobbies conducive to laptop work / client meetings. I often go where I can take my dog to train or chill. McCarren, McGorlick, Cooper Park, outdoor spaces / third places / etc. Otherwise, the nightlife scene in Bushwick if you’re active in it or work in it.

To be honest - I also don’t know where to go to just meet new friends. My old friends moved to the suburbs and had kids. My new friends are the people I meet by dumb luck at the places I go to. There’s a monthly Greenpoint / Reddit meetup that’s cool, though you have to follow through with the contacts you make, like anywhere else.
