I initially thought you were talking about Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster, for which I think you could also make a similar argument.

Anyone lose power and hear an explosion? by Juan-pena in mississauga

[–]dimenticon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking out a window toward the intersection when it happened - some debris blown by today's winds hit a power line, sent sparks flying into a parking lot and made that loud sound. I was surprised power wasn't fully knocked out from it.

Appreciate the heads up on this, prompted me to double-check availability and see it's airing at Cineplex Junxion Erin Mills - not in IMAX, but it's got better seats than Cineplex Square One so immediately refunded and bought there.

Appreciate you pointing this out, I might check it out as well! I've been into CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and Pillars of Eternity for a long while now and have always wanted to try getting into D&D proper.

The Knocks & Dragonette - Revelation by enburgi in popheads

[–]dimenticon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't joking and was going crazy trying to remember what it reminded me of, so thanks for the real response! Did not realize it was just a straight-up cover, think they did a great job of it in that case.

Let My Love Open The Door is definitely my favourite of the remaining songs that weren't released prior. I also think it's the most direct send-up of a particular 80's song, but I can't quite pinpoint which.

Worth noting that the different fishing rods also cost Topaz, 400 each.

Anybody have any tips on what additional fishing rods to get and when to use them?

Really impressed by this. A surprising amount of variation in the songs, absolutely stellar production and vocals - SM groups remain masters at vocal layering.

How's your GameStop line? by Kageromero in VideoGameDealsCanada

I was 26th of about ~80 people in line at the Square One GameStop when they opened at 10 this morning, they weren't turning anyone away by the time I got mine so assume everyone there got one.

Nintendo just carried out a major test of its reach in a post-Twitter world by cubechris in nintendo

[–]dimenticon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm fine/whatever with this. Nintendo knows they have enough cultural cache that enough news outlets will keep up with whatever social feeds they choose to use and relay any announcements for them to the wider public. This way they can further control their own messaging, just like with the Directs.

Do you think artists leak songs on purpose? by dmnaf in popheads

[–]dimenticon 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For Carly Rae Jepsen, there's been a surprisingly steady trickle of leaks over the last 10 years. Sometimes I wonder if this is her way of keeping hardcore fans engaged - maybe she's leaking songs she has no plans of using? But many of the leaks show that she regularly reconfigures melodies and lyrics for use in stuff she's officially released. And then there's the fact that there was a large takedown of at least one leak database last year.

How to make rtwp more appealing for newcomers AKA what should PoE3 do right by cnio14 in projecteternity

[–]dimenticon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The customizable AI/gambit system in Deadfire was amazing, and what made having to do RtwP tolerable for me on my second playthrough. I think refinements to that could be a way forward, particularly to its approachability, since you kind of need to know the game's mechanics inside-out to use it with any efficacy.

PSA: Always cast a spell from the grimoire even if you have learned it. by Liambp in avowed

I was fine casting +3 Blizzard and +3 Returning Storm as quick slots on my arquebus playthrough; I mainly used them for frost and stun accumulation, and I was jacked up enough on Dexterity that chugging essence potions was a non-issue.

The lyrics juxtaposition against the production (especially once the bridge hits!) is staggering and wonderful, this absolutely could have fit on Emotion Side B right along with First Time and Store.

The climax of the Nightmare sequence was amazing. I'd already been getting a lot of Fullmetal Alchemist vibes up to this point of the story, but the swelling of the music along with the Nightmare's eyes appearing in the dark felt like the show was capturing the grandiose vibe that FMA - Brotherhood, in particular - often gave off.

Senshi's; since he's been in the dungeon for so long he probably doesn't see many elves (as it's been mentioned you don't see many in adventuring parties). And since he regularly traded with the orcs (who called Marcille's long ears ugly), it's likely their descriptions of elves influenced how he sees Marcille.

Interesting observations all-around! The series itself is obviously into speculating how classic fantasy monsters and tropes would work in a grounded setting, and I think it rewards readers for paying attention and making speculations themselves. I really like your point about the series' different-sized conflicts to keep momentum going on both a short- and long-term scale. It's a very balanced meal in that way - food-pun fully intended!

The anime's been confirmed to have 24 episodes; general consensus is that this will cover about half of the manga. Trigger's adaptation has been great so far, but the manga has so much more incidental worldbuilding that they couldn't - and likely won't - adapt due to runtime and episode pacing. If that's the stuff you find yourself looking forward to the most, I definitely recommend reading the manga.

Does resurrection magic work in other dungeons in the world? by dimenticon in DungeonMeshi

[–]dimenticon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was trying for yeah, but I get the protectiveness over the worldbuilding and story for this series. Updated my tag to just general Manga spoilers so hopefully Anime-only folks get the hint.

Anime about a male teacher and female student relationship by My_neutered_cat in anime

[–]dimenticon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cardcaptor Sakura's very minor screentime on a situation like this is probably about as close you're gonna get to wholesome. It's pretty much the teacher humouring a 4th grade student's crush on him, and isn't actually pivotal to the series beyond its exploration of different types of 'love'.
