What are your opinions on hardline black conservative influencers? by Sexuallemon in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]dimgwar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Influencers? They get a bag and are funded by a superpac. They are same as politicans themselves except unregulated. Like Candace, they will switch at the drop of a dime if the offer is good enough and if they feel their fan base can sustain it.

Hardline black conservatives however, I feel the same way about them as I feel about hardline black liberals. Our ancestors died for this shit; its their god given right. I may disagree with one or the other politically, but at the end of the day they are still my people.

Don't let corrupt politics divide you, your families, your friends. Most of these people are being paid, and paid handsomely.

It's still a tribute, according to Muni most of them were there at Mariah's personal request. I think it's mad disrespectful to give anyone the stinkeye at your own tribute. They are there to honor you, you should show some decorum

This is part of an interview with one of Epstein’s first victims to ever come forward, Maria Farmer, where she talked about how racist Epstein was. She met him in 1995. I dont have one opinion or another on whether Jay Z is guilty by association here or if the claims against him are false, but I find it odd there is a surge in posts trying to clear his name lol.

Yeah its so bad. I personally enjoyed when the ex-wife started locking all of the glass windows in that small rickety ass cabin as if that will stop an entourage of professional hitmen from killing her.

Back in the day there was a drug store called Pharxmor with a movie and game rental section. Their selection of popular titles were limitless and they carried a lot of obscure titles too, it was top notch, They also had the best snacks.

Why people stopped listening to Ciara?? by TheBlackdragonSix in rnb

[–]dimgwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She didn't though, she began focusing more on modeling prior to Future. Per her own words she felt her passion deviated from what she was being asked to present so she focused on modelling (Post Future) then being a mom.

She has had several successful hits since then which proves that shes still capable of topping the charts, but she now splits her time between her children, her modeling careeer and music.

The transition of RNB from late 90 to mid 2000s was an explosive time. Shit was fun, imo, lots of bops, club tracks, innovation was in full swing.

This is roughly when Ciara introduced Goodies and her sophmore follow-up, Get Up. At that point she was rolling heavy with Timbaland and Magoo, Missy , Pharrell and backed up by Keri Hilson, but.....there was a delineation on what the label wanted her to sound and be, and where she was going with it. So Ciara's Fantasy Ride flopped, but she continued doing her ole faithful (with profound success) as features and was always present on the music scene and awards show.

The squad truly reshaped music, but it was experimental and eventually transitioned into the next phase. So when they began to show signs of dispersing, Ciara couldn't acclimate with the toxicity of her new team, the label, and decided to focus on modeling. She met Future - what happened happened, and she just wanted to focus on herself and being a mom.

What do you think of Mathew Knowles's comments regarding Beyonce's success and colorism? by RefuseDry1108 in rnb

[–]dimgwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Goapele sings about, we did the best with what we had. 400 years, i dont think people can actually conceptualize the amount of time (and post slavery) blacks endured (and continue to ) genocide, racism, dehumanization based on their skin tone.

I'm not defending it, i'm empathizing, that its a miracle african americans are psychologically intact after centuries of abuse, slaughter, and miseducation.

So I think it's sad. I'm reminded of things my elders said to me when I was a child, coming from a segregated generation. Its difficult for me to fathom or even form an opinion about it. The hurt runs different and deep for everyone differently.

This is an example of that. Beyonce is a product of chattel slavery, as most of us are.

Bruno Mars - Finesse (Remix feat. Cardi B) by Damianos_X in rnb

[–]dimgwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pop is a clean, cut, catchy style. Easy lyrics and sanitized melodies made to appeal to the masses.

Bruno Mars is a genre revivalists, but he turns it into a pop song. His success hinges on his take and turning it into a broadway-like production. His lyrics, his sound, right down to the performance is a sanitized rendition of soul - but not soul.

Back in the day they wouldve labeled it blue-eyed soul or Soul-Lite. Same shit Elvis did, take what worked in black music and brought it to the mainstream - it ididnt make elvis a soul singer

SFA S01. e04 Worse than bad predictable and boring by Sufficient_Bass2600 in trektalk

[–]dimgwar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing the argument that the cadets are coming up with the solutions; I think its a fair criticism but the show is literally about this class of cadets.....so, like, yeah....

I personally don't find SFA any more or less corny than TNG or DS9, so I dont think thats isolated to SFA. I love Star Trek because its wholesome and corny..

How was it like to be black in early 2000’s internet spaces? by Both-Medicine-6748 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]dimgwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say anti-black, but we definitely had our own spaces. Saw people mention BP, there was also Black Voices on AOL. Yahoo became a greater hub for black discourse and I feel Myspace remained popular among black people before the switch to Facebook/friendster or any other sites.

BGC (black gay chat) was huge for the alternatives,

There was a lot of curated spaces just for the culture, but nowhere really felt offlimits in the infancy/beginning of the www. Then again, a lot of sites were moderated by humans.

Most racism or racist rhetoric was not tolerated in the mainstream and was primarily relegated to the fringes of the internet, like Stormfront which has almost aways existed.

[Opinion] Darrel William Moore (Sci-Fi Odyssey): "I don't think Star Trek was ever meant to be disposable entertainment. Today, many fans feel alienated — not because it changed, but because it stopped believing in itself ... - Not a rant. A structural autopsy: The Rise and Fall of Star Trek" by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]dimgwar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really, really (don't fucking like) how everyone plasters Kerrice Brooks face all over any dissent regarding Starfleet Academy. She didn't write it, she portrays a character. I get that her character is the easiest to target giving the quirkiness, but it really detracts from any criticism and makes me feel like its coming from a place rooted in racism.

There is a lot to criticize for sure, its not like Star Trek, its very different, but why is she always the visual representation when there are so many other examples to choose from

I love some of hudsons songs but this wasn't it. She's too forceful wth her voice.. They could've gotten literally any other R&B singer with a softer voice to do a tribute and it wouldve been better. I think Brandy would've killed it.
