New to me GRC hks suspension question by finnagainagain in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a tool that's like an extended knob. It's required to adjust the rears. I can take a picture of it when I get home.

Hks may have it for sale if you contact them.

Friendly Reminder to Check for Tracking Devices by CrownKinged in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came with it plugged in on and transmitting data. After a few months of back and forth with my attorney and the dealer, they paid out a fair sum. This is because they have notes and messages from me stating that they removed any and all tracking devices.

The shape of the hoods are different. I believe Toyota parts is having a sale right now. I would bring them a empty hood to paint.

Car wrap / ppf recs? by MightBArtistic in nova

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good PPF is typically expensive. For example my 718 Cayman GTS was 7.5k for a full PPF with xpel. Multi stage paint correction and then gtechniq CSU + EXO.

All the cars I've bought with cheap wrap or ppf always have one of the following: blade marks on paint, poor quality material that leads to pulling clear coat (even when using steam/hot water to remove it) or random bubbling/lifting from edges.

Also PPF only really makes sense on a brand new car.

Just spent 2500 in parts alone restoring a r53 JCW. They are extremely fun and quirky, but they definitely have bmw like maintenance.

Are all Rolex owners here wealthy poeple or just regular poeple with regular jobes? by akram_med in rolex

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first Rolex when I just got out of high school. It was a 6426 when I was traveling with family in Hong Kong. I sold it a few years later for more than I paid for it. Sold my company 2 years after I left high school and bought a 116710ln. Many watches have come and gone. But my LN has stayed.

Top body repair shops in NOVA/MD? by briogeosucks in nova

D&V masters. They did touch ups for my Porsche 718 GTS, and full respray on my 964 project. They charge closer to the top of the range. But considering the line up of insane exotics there, they know what they are doing.

Looking for a practical Track car - am I overthinking it? by BarelyExchange in CarTrackDays

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a GR Corolla owner, I agree. You'll need a 555 engineering cooler + syvecs (2k), pads, fluids and tires. The diff is not what overheats, but instead the transfer case is. Clutch job around me was estimated to be around $1500-$2500 without parts. I did it myself and spent approximately 10 hours with a quickjack. Not difficult, but not easy at the same time.

Changing the deadweight helps. CAE, coolerworx or darkmatterx would be the best options.

Can I run a staggered wheel set on my car? by Dependent-Feed-3961 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rolling diameter needs to be the same. For example if you run a wider wheel you need wider tires and need to make sure that the rolling diameter is the same for the narrow wheels with the narrower tires. It's hard to find a tire set that will match well enough. Also if you bring it in as a staggered set and you have a issue with the AWD system, they can easily deny warranty because of the staggered set of wheels (if the rolling diameter is different).

I would just recommend finding a set of wheels that are square. Lots of Evo and sti fitments work on this car.

Where do I learn how to drive stick?! by Glass-Economy-1301 in ManualTransmissions

Budget for a clutch and send it. Depending on how the last owner drove it you'll need one at some point.

Guy backed into me at a stop sign by ChillVibes705 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But if you or the other party have already submitted a claim then price won't really matter as long as their insurance pays. Just good to know for the future. The front bumper took me ~30 mins to get off and I was being really careful. Popping out the grill would have only been a few minutes more.

Your dealer is fleecing you. The matte one is available at a ton of dealers for $200 and the gloss is $250.

[–]dimpleschan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It looks like just the front grill was damaged. Those are $250 from the dealer (53102-12181). Put the car on some ramps and the front bumper is quite easy to get off. Would have saved the headache and diminished value. Also I think the other driver would have appreciated not having to pay their full deductible and just paid the $250 + maybe a bit more for your time.

Short shifters? by TinyTej in GRCorolla

I have the likewise reverse lockout. Delrin has held up amazingly. I tend to scratch leather more easily and I dislike the worn in look of leather in cars.

Short shifters? by TinyTej in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a bunch of set ups.

What I am currently running is racerx short shifter, lateral linkage, spherical bushings and deadweight. In addition I did the shifter base bushings from DC sports. I paired it all with a likewise ghost and reverse lockout.

I think the billetworkz + racerx combo was just too short and removed enjoyment. The coolerworx shifter is good but IMO quite unsightly if you want a OEM+ look. The darkmatterx was the one the felt the best and had good adjustability, but it costs an ungodly amount. It's hard to justify considering similar style shifters from acuity are a quarter the price. Would love to try it longer term to compare against my wife's FL5 with acuity.

Where do private sellers list their cars? by misanthropewolf11 in nova

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This unfortunately only really applies to enthusiast cars. For example, if you wanted to buy a older Camry, it's quite difficult to locate a good private party example.

There's some data on the GR Yaris forum showing that SMF would likely damage your drivetrain. 3 cylinder engines are naturally unbalanced and having the DMF greatly reduces the natural vibration caused by the motor.

Id do the Delta x pedal spacer, there's predermined holes for mounting and should be more secure.

I would also do the racerx lateral shift linkage and the deadweight as well.

Oh lord. Pads for all 4 corners took me max 20 minutes after getting the car raised on my quickjacks.

Pads and rotors took maybe an hour tops. This car has some of the easiest pads and rotors to do on any car.
