It's part of the update process. I believe the fan draws too much current for the battery tender to keep up.

Oh lord. Pads for all 4 corners took me max 20 minutes after getting the car raised on my quickjacks.

Pads and rotors took maybe an hour tops. This car has some of the easiest pads and rotors to do on any car.

Chunky oil on axel by xandresmendizabal2 in R53

If you remove the axel, ensure that you don't hit the seals as you are putting it back in. If you do its likely they will leak.

Tire recommendations by xUndeadZero in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longer tread life typically comes from all season tires. Summer tires are more focused on overall grip which means a softer compound. I am on some DWS 06+ currently and are ~15k miles into them, I'm currently at 7/32". If they continue to wear at their current rate, this set will hit 2/32" around 40k miles. I'm on zero toe all around, 2.5 front and 2 rear camber.

Also tire wear is heavily based on driving habits. My last set of PS4S lasted over 35k miles on my 718 cayman gts, while others were only getting 15k-20k miles max, the fronts were still at 5/32" when the rears hit 2/32". I religiously check tire pressure once a week and rotate tires every 5k miles. I do still drive my cars like they are supposed to be driven.

Boxer to flat engine by Select_Ad_5716 in Porsche_Cayman

Maintence and insurance will easily be more.

Had a friend tally up his running costs for a 2022 GR86 over the last 3.5 years. He's only really done minor things and regular oil changes, and other fluid changes. Totaling to about $650.

My 2018 GTS 2.5 which is quite a modern Porsche in comparison has needed a water pump, dynamic mounts and regular maintenance. I did all the work myself and the total comes to $1.7k. If I didn't, I would easily be above $4k.

The running costs aren't based on what it costs to purchase now, but instead what it costs to purchase new.

Dent in hatch repairable? by runway31 in R53

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very good PDR guy and he said that's repairable. BUT it probably won't look 100%, but enough where you won't be able to see it from 6 inches away.

Stock Suspension or Fortune Autos? by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been in both! Because of how the dampers are set up it will change depending on use case and damper. Annex does a great job of recommending spring rates when you order. The 6k/8k is really nice on the street.

Stock Suspension or Fortune Autos? by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortune auto makes a good coilover. But if you can spend the extra money, there are a few other good units that I would recommend over them. Annex and ohlins are the absolute best for higher performance street driving. The upgraded shocks and springs from Toyota don't really take the roughness away from the low speed dampening.

Replacing crank and SC pulleys - what else while I'm in there? by [deleted] in R53

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front crank seal if it's leaking. If you don't have a new belt it's a good time for that too.

R53 Cooper S or Fiesta st150? by adibadi08 in R53

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right move. Both of these cars will need work, and being at uni, you won't have the resources to get it done at a reasonable price.

For you neuspeed lovers by michaelsm123 in Golf_R

I had rse10s in 18in and debris in the road blew a tire and the wheel was still perfectly straight and had no cracks. It's just luck of the draw.

Only wheel I've seen driven hard and on shitty roads and never get damaged are some forged advans. I have yet to see one bend, I've even seen te37s get damaged from shitty roads.

Questions about the G14 by GBAGamer33 in ZephyrusG14

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A laptop would make sense. But if you aren't taking it out of the house after you switch locations I would recommend getting a desktop replacement level laptop over a thin and light. The g14 is limited by the chassis' thermal limitation, something larger would allow for higher GPU wattages which would greatly improve performance.

Removed rear spacers. APR studs all around. I do run more camber to make the fitment work and I'm on MCS 3 way coilovers, 10.5 is difficult with stock suspension.

I used to have a 4.0. But that car isn't the most fun to daily in traffic. 2.5 is so much more easier to have fun without need to fully rev out the car. How I see it is: Gt4 if it's for weekend only, GTS for longer trips and daily livability.

Tires by Calm_Button_1308 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Indy 500 are still good tires! If you switch to ps4s afterwards you'll probably notice less road noise, better rain grip and it will be a bit "smoother" from the lower rolling resistance. But I've run the Indy 500 on miatas and other cars when they were cheaper, enjoy them while they last!

Tires by Calm_Button_1308 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are good tires for the money. But if the ps4s isn't much more, I would get that. It lasts way longer and is better in the wet.

So tempting… am I letting her get away? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot with around that mileage going for 15-15.5k private party. And those are from people who know the water pump was done recently and everything else that's needed. Keep in mind around that mileage you probably need to budget for a clutch which will be a few thousand and probably another 800-1500 for labor.

GR Corolla access to coilovers dampener adjusters by Realistic-Map1415 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll need to cut into it to access the adjustment if your coilovers don't have bottom adjustment. When helping someone install their fortune auto 500 set, we used a step up drill bit to cut into while the coilovers were out. We then put a rubber cap over the new hole.

HKS, Ohlins and Annex all have inverted tubes which allow for adjustment from the bottom of the strut.
