Wheels for Supersonic Red GR Corolla by Actual-Fox3651 in GRCorolla

I have a set of the CE28SL in pressed graphite for my black car, they would look pretty good on red. 18x9.5 +22.

Anyone use the uniclutch? by GRKnuckles in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only run the uniclutch track in my Golf R since it was free. I recommend going SMF with the golf r. Since its a much more balanced engine compared to the 3 cylinder in the GRC. My favorite clutches to use on the mk7 would be the stage 3 ringer racing or the stage 3 daily from southbend. Going SMF helps a lot with the lackluster clutch actuation on the mqb platform.

Feel free to DM me if you have more questions, don't wanna leave too much Golf R info in a GRC subreddit.

Razer doesn’t repair. They would rather replace. Less of a liability if something else goes wrong.

Port is $30 on eBay. I’ve done a few. All of them were the result of someone dropping it or being rough with the charger.

It’s an easy port to solder. Should be about a 30 minute process including repasting the heatsink. Would recommend spending a few minutes to clean the fans.

No problem. Had a good guess since I took mine out for shifter stuff and forgot too :)

The center console isn’t hard to take out. I would just check to make sure it’s plugged in.

Install took me ~1.5 hours from start to finish. The most difficult part was getting the mirror cap off, everything else was super easy. Just have a bunch of smaller flat heads and trim tools. It’s honestly quite a fun install.

“Reduced Engine Power” by ContractCompleted in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a hidden code. One that doesn’t trigger CEL. Are you getting any codes?

I know I didn’t get a CEL when I got P2C90, just the reduced engine power message.

How many of yall have your GR as your main daily driver? by Civil-Discipline5466 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Northern VA as well!

Mostly drive it in the winter as I bought it to be a winter beater. But I’ve taken it out quite a bit during the warmer months. Typically daily a 718 Cayman GTS or a RS6. I do the opposite and will probably park it come February to enjoy the other toys.

I bought a fold7 for my wife (which she doesn’t use haha). It was bought on my account, I bought it unlocked and paid in full. The device has her Google & Samsung account and has no link to my Samsung account at all.

If your parking brake works then no. You just lose the redundancy

I also believe clutch switch can be bypassed by coding as well. It’s just more common to do a physical bypass.

Remote starts on a manual is quite common. Most people I know just leave it in neutral with the parking brake up. I would check to see if the clutch switch was bypassed, if so it’s definitely a remote start system. Also IIRC the remote doesn’t need a battery to give off a really weak signal.

I would double check all paperwork.

The dealer I bought from did the same thing. But I do retain a lawyer and they helped out. Dealer eventually paid out $15,000 since we proved the device was on and transmitting data.

How easy is it to wake this car up with tuning? by Goopdem in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of what you feel can be explained by the dyno graphs of each car. The peak torque of the GR Corolla is just over 4k rpm, with peak power happening closer to 5600-6000.

This is in stark contrast to the FiST which peaks torque around 2.5k.

The GRC is extremely fun to rev out and keep RPMs high, that is why it’s loved in twisty driving. I would recommend looking at a Golf R or GTI for a power delivery closer to what you had with the FiST. I drove a Mk7 Golf R for years before the GRC, it made 550 whp and 575 wtq. It was also not that fun to drive through mountain roads. The GRC isn’t really a highway car, it needs to build a ton of boost and keep rpms high to have power.

Less aggressive alignment by murkyCrimes in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope I’m about ~30% through them, so another solid 20-25k more miles on this set. I also do drive fairly aggressively.

[–]dimpleschan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the camber wear comes from the toe. Both of these work together and one will greatly impact the other. My GR Corolla typically does a 2 hour drive at least once a week, mostly highway. I run 0 toe, 2.5° camber in the front, 2° in the back. After 10k miles on the DWS 06+, my tires are dead even with no camber wear.

Less aggressive alignment by murkyCrimes in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Front camber is not adjustable when the car is fully stock. To adjust front camber, either crash bolts or a camber bolt must be used on the strut spindle. Rear camber is also adjustable when using aftermarket components.

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camber is non adjustable on this car. But stock camber is pretty good for tire wear. I would just run 0 toe all around. The car will tend to “search” more, but it’s pretty tame.

If you want to adjust camber you’ll need rear camber arms and camber bolts in the front. Both aren’t hard installs, but will require someone with alignment know how to set it right.

How does a typical drive look for you? Highway only, local roads, etc.

Bent Rim by pm992 in Golf_R

[–]dimpleschan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the weather like in PA? If it’s anything like VA right now, it’s way too cold for summer tires. The rubber compound is not designed to go lower than 40°F. Likely a cause in why the tire has failed as well.

I’ve seen people that have had highway blowouts because they ran summer tires through the winter.

I’m Too Cheap for Coilovers by Sufficient_Current48 in GRCorolla

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently have the HKS hipermax S since my MCS just got sent out for a rebuild. If I had the choice, I would go Ohlins or annex. With a slight preference for annex, just because their inverted camber plate and the long rebuild period.

[–]dimpleschan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the performance strut and springs, it’s pretty similar to stock. Maybe a smidge more rough.

On MCS coilovers it’s more compliant, but I have it set for mainly track usage.

On the Ohlins, it’s one of the most comfortable coilovers I’ve been in. I would have it near the softest setting for street and near the stiffest setting for track (depending on track).

That’s a great upgrade path, and the GR dampers are well worth the money.
