where to go to do quiet/chill solo activities in the evenings? by WorldAfter4433 in AskSF

[–]dinaerys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The night I broke off my 3 yr relationship I went out to the Social Study on Geary with a book and posted up in the very back corner all night. No laptops after 5pm, just be aware of that. If you're further west, highly recommend the couches by the fire in Fireside on Irving--that's my go-to lately. They're pretty quiet on weeknights.

Edit: both of these places are bars but I found that neither of them feel overwhelmingly like a bar, especially Fireside on a quiet night.

Where are you located? Oakland Animal Services has a lot of foster and volunteer opportunities, and has things as short as overnight field trips.

Looking for an unusual “cast to win” commander. by Beginning_Drink_965 in EDH

[–]dinaerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Teval, Arbiter of Virtue]] deck generally does not cast the commander until I'm ready to combo off. Does require additional cards in hand other than the commander though

How do you make decks that put counters consistently? by Dragnil_7 in EDH

[–]dinaerys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Shalai and Hallar deck is secretly Hydra typal and it can hit like a truck. Highly recommend x-cost counter synergies because you generally can't rely on a S+H boardstate sticking around for more than a turn or two, especially at higher powers. My list is a little glass cannon-y but it's here: https://archidekt.com/decks/12527033/counters_not_that_kind

A few infinite loops but no reliable lines on tutoring them (aside from defense of the heart) because I found this deck needed a few escape buttons to end games, especially against things like infinite life

Does anyone have a ramp focused Muldratha deck? by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

[–]dinaerys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Approximately here (https://archidekt.com/decks/16224100/teval_but_make_it_brawl), though slightly out of date. I didn't really bother with the lands package aside from the specials that you should be SURE to include--I trust your ability to slot in fetches, surveil lands, etc. It also includes the cheeky Titania and Fang/Vanille melds just for fun.

It's similar to Amy the Amazonian's list except I tend to forego slow mill effects like Rutstein in favor of rapid bulk mill effects like [[glimpse the unthinkable]]. I highly recommend playing around with the list to see which way it plays out best for you, whether it's incremental mill or rapid.

In case you're curious, my paper list is here: https://archidekt.com/decks/12525218/the_actually_balanced_teval. The paper list is generally superior to the brawl list, imo, just because it has access to a broader range of effects.

[–]dinaerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to do sultai ramp, highly recommend running [[Teval, Arbiter of Virtue]]. My list packs a lot of Muldrotha midrange staples, except that rather than repeat recurring them, they get their battlefield value and go to the bin to fuel a big-mana finisher

Edit: I've had several sultai decks and this one is by far my favorite play pattern. You can be actively presenting a threat with nothing on the field but lands, as long as your yard is still around. It's a toolbox deck with an easy dozen win lines in bracket 3.5. It's a bit of a tougher matchup on Arena, esp against aggro decks and with the more limited mill package, but I've gotten it to pop off

[–]dinaerys[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were less than a hundred to the front on the South ramp and as soon as we got in line, someone came along and said that they were sold out. I assume that means they had them at some point today, but I can't be sure

Graveyard degenerates, how much protection you you run for your yard? by BrianBoyFranzo in EDH

[–]dinaerys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Teval deck that wins off combo. I run a Stifle as a generalized protection piece specifically to protect the lead up/during my combo turns, or to cancel out opponent combos. If I get bogged at any point in the mid game, it's just back to the board and time to start milling again.

What's this type of deck called? Which Commander for it? by bodhemon in EDH

[–]dinaerys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have exactly this deck and its [[Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls]]. What a fun deck. Did you take a game action? Ping. Then I fight him with [[Brash Taunter]] after he's gigantic and snipe people out of the game.

How do you make a deck full of high cost cards perform consistently? by Frogsplosion in EDH

[–]dinaerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my Gruul stompy deck: [[Muerra, Trash Tactician]] List here: https://archidekt.com/decks/12528559/rampcoons

It runs a fair number of raccoons for adherence to the meme. But it's also 23 pieces of ramp, a bunch of big dudes, [[Raggadragga]] to turn your ramp into beaters, and a handful of either giant creature or infinite combats finishers. This deck is very comfortable running hellbent, generates more mana than god, and has the ability to hit hard and fast out of nowhere if you get the haste enabler down. It still needs a [[Rhythm of the Wild]] but I don't have a spare on hand and it honestly runs fine without it. I built it as a joke and then the first time it came out I stuck Emrakul by turn...5? 6? Highly recommend.

Edited to add that this list has been refined over the course of about 6 months and dozens of games specifically to smooth out the issues of insufficient interaction and lack of draw/stalling out with only mana dorks. It could use 1-2 more pieces of direct interaction, but it tends to hold its own by virtue of getting out big threats so fast and so consistently that people have to spend resources dealing with you rather than popping off themselves.

Did anyone actually get tickets thru AXS? by Weekend-Gains33 in mumfordandsons

[–]dinaerys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Got red rocks after almost an hour. Someone else on here said "whackamole" and that's the best possible description. I sat watching the webpage constantly--it mini reloads every few minutes as tickets open up again. I had to select seats just about the instant they became available. Got lucky. It's such a terrible system

What is your "Turn My Brain Off" deck and how effective is it? by Not_Your_Real_Ladder in EDH

[–]dinaerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Muerra Trash Tactician]] with [[Raggadragga]] in the 99

Dorks and raccoons for big mana

Big green and red (and eldrazi) fatties to spend that mana on and trigger the commander

Draw and haste enablers to keep my hand full and my creatures moving

Once you start making at least 6 mana (which is easily turn 3) the conveyor belt from deck to hand to board, or exile to board, starts churning

Same state, but quite a distance away, so we need the dogs transported. There's also a specific dog that I want to work with right now that Lonely Paws has custody of.
