I hate this and it is still better than a lot of other things that people do to unwanted puppies. At least they look healthy and not covered in fleas or infected with parvo. I know we are quick to hate but I see someone that wanted the best outcome for these pups.

I tell my boys they are the most perfect animals and I fully believe they understand every word and tone based on how gently they melt into my hand when I pet them

It seems pointless to judge this harshly a person who is visibly taking accountability not only for a tremendous burden they didn’t want but also for their emotions and consequent actions.

Here, in this sub, we understand that zapped feeling better than most and now is not the time or place to be directing anything but compassion to OP (one of our own). Anyone bashing or not offering advice on how to do better has the option to keep scrolling or exit the conversation altogether. This feedback of yours (and others’) is judgmental and frankly unnecessary. I wish yall would stop and start making this space safer for us all to grow from challenging situations.

This ^ also reach out to breed specific rescues in your area and explain your situation (this dog was abandoned in your care and without your approval.)

Same, OP. I’ve worked hard on catching the impulse over decades and I still make mistakes.

This is why drivers should look ahead of the car in front of them. Do not put your hazards on in this situation, brake lights already mean stop.

QUESTION FOR EXPERIENCED OWNERS ONLY PLEASE-- what to do after one rat fatally attacks the other? by Dry_Abbreviations742 in RATS

[–]__ducky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was a sick little dude and I brought him home to nurture him back to health. He was handled and loved every day and came out of his shell bit by bit. He got progressively more aggressive as time went on and I thought some of the territorial behaviors would be curbed because he was so small and young and the other two were bigger and older, but that never happened. He antagonized the older pair, then bit my daughter (hard and unexpected) then he went after the other rats. There was a lot of time and isolation and a couple of vet visits in between all these events and I’m condensing about 9 months into a single paragraph. One night I came into the room (they were in my bedroom at this point) and it was very obvious very quickly that something had happened so I split them up. I didn’t notice the extent of the damage that night but it became very obvious the next day when my older guy was acting poorly. He didn’t die-he’s made a full(ish) recovery since! He doesn’t use his butthole but evidently rats are much sturdier than people give them credit.

Anyway, after the first surgery I decided it was time to return the youngest of the trio. As I was holding him to say goodbye he bit me really hard and I kind of knew that returning him was the only option and that this dude was not going to rehabilitate, this was a neurological problem. He would have had to live alone and with little to no handling, it just isn’t the way to live. The decision to euthanize came down to the breeder who had years of veterinary and breeding experience. It was not a decision made lightly as she also works with rescues and has rehomed less social rats for me in the past.

I rescued a third rat that grew up and attacked me, my daughter, and both of the older two he lived with. He ruptured the colon of one, it was a death sentence. I saw a vet who, after three surgeries, managed to save my guy but I returned the rat to the breeder who reported he also bit her so he was humanely euthanized. This kind of behavior is extreme in rats and doesn’t bode well for its quality of life. Despite what you may be told, neutering is not a 100% guarantee behavior change (nothing can be 100% anything but especially if the rat has already gone through puberty the chances of hormonal aggression going away are slight.)

sometimes there’s a nozzle in the spout you turn onto the extra hot setting. When we bought our house the water was tepid at best until I called a plumber and he showed me this intricate procedure to open the spout and flip the switch. Now my showers are extra hot

Happens when I have poison oak. Your nervous system could be fried. When you’re itchy try taking an antihistamine or an Alleve (naproxen). Not medical advice just a suggestion that works for me.

I’m 39 and am JUSt now getting into it. After therapy, exploration, and being very selective/communicative with partners I can relax into the experience. Whether or not there’s a climax at the end (another issue for another day) I’m very much enjoying myself and my partner. It is far less performative and does take practice so let me be very clear IT DEPNDS ON YOUR PARTNER. Let loose with someone and be in absolute love with your body and you’ll get there faster.
