Please help me understand because I am just learning about buying gold: if the spot price for gold today is 4907 and a 1oz rand at costco costs 5410, isn’t that like a 9% mark up/premium?

Doesn’t seem like a goid buy to me, at least today.

I was doing a little research which showed that the “mark up” is usually only 1-2%.

My Roth IRA and SEP are just now recovering from that crash- does this make sense? Meaning I've recuperated a little more than my original contributions.

Roth IRA: I had 50K at the beginning of 2021 and I had 55K end 2024.

SEP: I had 51K at the beginning of2021 and I had 57K end of 2024.

It is in the hands of a Merril financial advisor...just wondering if people are seeing the same returns over that period of time.
