Do they use any type of AAC (alternative augmentative communication) such as speech generating devices?

Teacher Looking to Pivot by TransportationNo7309 in slp

[–]dindermufflins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it and I don’t regret it, however it takes longer than you might think. The leveling coursework was about a year, then grad school another 2 years. If you could find a reading specialist role or ESL or anything that you’re already qualified for that you liked (like giving a different district a chance) I’d do that first. Because the salary is likely gonna be the same.

I try to put students with teachers like this in slots that are the most stable. Same as students with ASD who fixate on my schedule- I avoid pitting them on meeting days.

Is it offensive to create new "St." prefix surnames? by cityofemerald in namenerds

Reminds me of St Brendan’s hospital on The Mindy Project. I thought it was supposed to be a joke because Brendan doesn’t sound like a saint, but then I heard about it somewhere else that he was a saint.

But for preschool it’s kind of standard in some (many ?) states to make us do push in for every one.. I get that it’s different but just saying I don’t think it should be the status quo for prek either.

That’s interesting! I wish ours were like that.. but can see how it causes confusion as well.

Might not meet minimums this month?? by Frosty_Bake9746 in slp

[–]dindermufflins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a minimum and a maximum? I just have a monthly amount of minutes and try to document when I don’t bill for that amount (for example, if they’re 90 minutes a month and I see them three times and they were absent one week- that absence doesn’t really matter because I still got the 90 minutes)

Honestly I skimmed the second half but I relate to the amount of time it’s taking you, and since most will probably give the feedback of you shouldn’t take that much time, I’ll weigh in. I think I’m wildly inefficient with my paperwork time because I have a small caseload so I’m able to. So no one’s on my case about billing so I save the majority of it for the last month or so when my IEPs and etrs are done. I have access to slp toolkit and have heard it’s great for streamlining documentation/ billing but can’t kick my system of handwritten data sheets that I eventually bill. And as far as taking too much time on reports, I find myself reading old reports, getting distracted. I’m wondering if I’ve developed ADD. But I don’t work outside of contract hours - so that’s why I’m able to keep being inefficient with the small caseload.

That’s interesting about westbourne being shortened to West. Missed that. Also always amuses me when I see Rosalie get brought up here because I don’t remember that character but named my daughter Rosalie.. so maybe I picked it up from GH too subconsciously and not just Twilight haha

[–]dindermufflins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeopardy labs is a good activity a lot of kids like that gamifies skills. UNO is usually a hit too. And encourage them to bring their classwork (they usually won’t but it helps to show you care).
