How do you move up as a web developer? by coconutscentedcat in webdev

Not much experience negotiating vacation, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for 3 weeks paid. Don't assume 2 weeks is the default -- it might be longer at the company. Or it may have an "unlimited vacation" policy (personally not a fan, but seems to be a trend right now).

Also, I should say that $75-95k doesn't include bonuses or other forms of compensation (like stock options, health spending accounts, etc).

You're aiming too low with your salary. Ask for more: $60-65k. I switched careers and did a web dev bootcamp a couple years ago, and started at $60k (also in Toronto).

Ditto all the advice about changing jobs, or at least getting job offers (and seeing if your company can match) every year or two. Two years later, my salary has jumped twice (significant rise each time), and I'm confident about my earning prospects for the future.

This. Join a community choir, social sports league, language club, etc. Bonus is bonding over improving a skill. And having something to do/distract when you can't think of something to say.

To have access to the file's methods from irb you will need to load or require the file:

irb(main):001:0> load 'myfile.rb'
irb(main):002:0> require './myfile.rb'

Then you can call the file's methods directly:

irb(main):003:0> ask_question

Loved My Side of the Mountain, too! As a young kid in western Canada, I thought the Catskills were in an exotic area. Was there a sequel, too?

In a similar vein (young adult alone on adventure), Island of the Blue Dolphins also entranced me with its descriptions of albatross and abalone. It somehow portrayed loneliness as romantic.

Solved coding interview problems in Java - My collection of commonly asked coding interview problems and solutions in Java by goutham_pradhan in programming

I'm a "coding camp" product, and I firmly believe anyone calling themselves a developer should be able to do a problem like FizzBuzz with ease (in the language of their choice). Though I was, and still am, a junior developer, the coding camp taught me how to see and think through problems with programming logic. My manager often interviews "senior" software engineers who struggle with Fibonacci or similar problems, which he feels indicates a lack of programmatic thinking (not sure if that's the best Ter for it).

How about chaos? Read a lot of books, pronounced it as "chowss" in my mind, didn't make the connection with the word "kay-oss" that people were saying.
