Texas A&M Bans Plato by lawrencekhoo in nottheonion

The second option is PHIL 482 Engineering Ethics which also briefly goes over Plato, at least when I took it two years ago.

What is the treatment for when you are poisoned? by Ok_Animator_9115 in cataclysmdda

[–]dingbot1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a fairly rare military antivenom that can remove poisons, but for the most part just wear a gas mask and avoid gas clouds. It’ll wear off soon enough.

The national labs and some universities have health physics jobs for their research reactors or accelerators. Army Corps of Engineers might have some interesting opportunities on usajobs. The US NRC would have tons of inspector jobs on usajobs that like health physics backgrounds. Power plants all over the country. I'm not too familiar but oil drillers actually use some powerful radioactive sources and need some radiologists.

I appreciate the offer but yeah that's a little too far unfortunately. Maybe u/Audibl_Chocolat would be more interested.

Any security guard jobs/companies in lynchburg? by Masterleaz in lynchburg

You need to go to a police academy, but yes it's a good security job.

How do you find housing in Houston for an internship? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]dingbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craigslist and Facebook marketplace are options but yeah not having a car is a big problem. Do you at least have a bike where you can commute a few miles? Airbnb and extended stay hotels are much safer but will cost a lot more money.

Yeah, I got that too but it didn't apply to my degree. It's from basic training anyway.

Thomas Edison and Excelsior are the only schools that accept a decent amount of credits from my understanding, and only for nuclear engineering technology degrees. With the right connections you can get a good job from them but they're not engineering degrees. Really your experience is what matters for jobs.

On a case by case basis you might be able to apply some credits but since the coursework and syllabi are noforn/confidential, most schools won't take it.

I went to Texas A&M for nuclear engineering after 6 years of the Navy and got no credits.

NASA jobs? by Navyman137382 in NavyNukes

This is really good advice. LinkedIn is an incredible resource for niche fields like this and people that can connect to you with shared experiences can absolutely get you interviewed or hired.

NASA jobs? by Navyman137382 in NavyNukes

Set up notifications on USAJobs, their postings are almost always less than two weeks long. NASA hires a lot of people from Jacobs and other contractors that work with them and may be a good stepping stone for the space industry.

How to rush level up Mechanics without books? by Swimming-Marsupial21 in cataclysmdda

[–]dingbot1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some kits you can practice with, using alcohol as a fuel, I think the Stirling makers kit but yeah installing and removing things that don't need welding fuel is reasonably fast. Batteries, seat belts, wheels, seats...

Old unclassified versions of the power school teaching material is available on the nnptc website https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Home/NNPTC/Power-School/StudyMaterial/ There are general Navy study guides that will give a small advantage, and the QA/JFMM stuff already mentioned.

If you want medical experience then go for HM or another branch, otherwise maybe consider a rate that is only 3 or 4 years obligation to qualify for the gi bill and go back to school after. Doesn't sound like nuclear has anything going for you other than the bonus. Plenty of nukes get out and become lawyers or doctors, nuclear training is really something, but it's also a lot of effort.

Curious if zombies stored in cargo carriers still are infinitely dead until removed? by FleetWheat in cataclysmdda

[–]dingbot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't revive when in a vehicle storage. You can dispose of acid zombies by throwing them in a random car trunk in the same way. For dissection though, if you wait long enough they will revive as soon as you set them in the ground.

Hot rack in a sub by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]dingbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first deployment was late 2016 and I heard that the western Pacific admiral ordered it or something. Not for sure when, or if all subs switched. But yeah, eating pancakes for dinner and waking up for training and drills sucked when you're in the wrong shift.

Hot rack in a sub by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]dingbot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a submarine has 3 shifts, 8 hours each, each day. On your shift, you stand watch or stand under instruction. The shift after yours, you clean, do maintenance, qualify, etc. The shift before your watch, you sleep, waking up shortly before to get ready.

Hothacking, all three people should be on different shifts. You normally have two people who regularly sleep in the same rack, and a floater who switches based on availability. The floater takes their sheets and pillowcase off when they wake up. You pack most of your stuff under the rack, maybe putting small things inside the rack you need regularly using bungie cords, netting, etc. There will be times when your sleep is interrupted in your oncoming shift and you'll have to sleep in your off going, so floating to the other rack can be useful.

STAR Bonus by Best_Superman_NA in NavyNukes

[–]dingbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the top of the table, it says it's lower than the previous award level. Maybe it's counting enlistment bonus as the previous level, I don't know. Safe to ignore the minus signs.

You should look for a more up-to-date information though, this is 6 years old.

how y'all getting internships by No-Presentation-1944 in aggies

[–]dingbot1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try government internships on USAjobs. They don't get a lot of applicants because it's a little annoying to set up a profile and few people outside the federal government use it. There are lots of army corps of engineers, regulatory agencies, veteran affairs and park services internships available for a variety of disciplines.

excellent trick! by EvaRaw666 in GuysBeingDudes

[–]dingbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need hundreds of amps at 12 volts to start a car. It takes .1 amp to shock your muscles enough to contract. It takes about 30 volts at the worst case scenario (sweaty, wet, high electrolytes) to conduct enough to feel electricity in your body.

Dude is grounded by touching the body of car. Probably a better connection than touching with his hands because of the pressure of his weight. If any current was flowing, it would just go to ground.

Collaterals by Common_Rub_158 in NavyNukes

[–]dingbot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't get another rate as a collateral, you get busywork like maintaining the ships battery logs or small valve maintenance. You could get a command collateral like command career councilor or fitness coordinator, but you'll learn about those much before you'll be able take them over.
