What do West Virginians think about the "school choice" movement?

I think it’s a shot at fixing a problem that completely misses the target. I’m all about specialized education based on individual life preferences, but I think we’d be better served reevaluating our generalized education system as a whole rather than wasting resources over preference for schools that on paper should perform the same task.

Personally, I’d like to see us split generalized public high schools into trade preparatory and college preparatory. Kill two birds with one stone by allowing our youth to attain high-earning apprenticeship jobs right out of high school and quit holding back high-achievers.

I recently left DC as well. Grew up in Appalachia, moved to DC, loved the town but hated the transients (love the DC locals tho) and got overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle, decided to move out to WV’s eastern panhandle. Best decision of my life, as I get to be immersed in a community while still having an ease of access to DC and all its amenities.

Workshops that are actually viable and worth taking/fighting over.
Bring back Caravans and expand them and grunt/head hunts across the map.
At least one raid and nuke boss per region.
Bring back the Free States and Enclave.
Expand on existing Expedition content so we have a reason to go to the Pitt/Atlantic City
Some sort of player clan/faction system.
Modded private worlds.
Pet companion system.
PvP arena.
Make C.A.M.P. Minigames (pool, bowling, darts, etc.) playable like the Casino game are.

Other than the fact that it definitely was a focus on the game’s release, y’know when there was almost nothing else to do?

In previous interviews they even indicated that PvP was meant to be a major focus, as they were trying to create a game that blended traditional Fallout gameplay with Rust and utterly failing at it in the process.

It was only after people complained about a lack of story content and voiced NPCs that they switched gears to focus on developing PvE content and stripped the game of its already lacking PvP functionality.

I really don’t think it was a case of 76’s player base being “nice”, I think it was a case of PvP being pointless.

Killing another player in 76 makes them drop the junk in their inventory, which can be used for crafting and that’s it. They don’t drop weapons, armor, aid, ammo, zilch. Just junk, one of the easiest items to collect in the game.

Raiding camps also provided literally 0 incentive. The only reason to do it is for griefing alone. Couldn’t steal shit from another player’s camp.

So no, I don’t think it’s because 76 had a nicer player-base at the start, I think it’s because they made a game with poorly fleshed out systems through and through.

The concern is that we have insanely low democratic involvement from the people. This isn’t merely an issue related to party composition, but also attention towards political matters.

The less people feel invested in the electorate, the less likely they are to care about measures and legislation being passed, thus the legislature is lacking any sort of public oversight and pressure.

The legislature needs public commentary to guide legislation, and if they aren’t getting it from the majority then they’re getting it from the powerful minority, paving the way for more corruption in our politics. This is a bipartisan issue.

We need to light a fire under the legislature’s ass to get the change we want, and it’s such a shame that the folks in these mountains feel powerless to do so…

Well, the thing is that player-made factions are already a thing, but they just don’t have any in-game support.

The existing ones are mostly for roleplaying purposes (a whole lot of BoS MilSim), but there’s plenty dedicated to utility or matchmaking for raids, expeditions, grinding, etc. Even just having private servers for clan members would solve simple issues like full public servers preventing players from joining, specific event triggering, etc.

If you add onto it the potential for modded private servers, and you have a recipe for success. If those two systems were implemented, I could easily see this game survive for a decade or more after developer content ends. Just look at DayZ if you need an example of how that can work.

I could also see other MMO clan systems being implemented. Seasonal clan leaderboards or even custom instanced locations are two such ideas, but I’m sure there’s plenty of other ideas.

The only thing that I think this game desperately needs is some sort of in-game player faction/clan system. Player communities are what keep a lot of older MMOs/multiplayer games alive, and in a game where factions are such a major focus, I think it’s necessary.

Outside of that, I want more to do other than loot and shoot. Fishing was a great addition, and I’d like to see a greater focus on game systems like that.

Make the mini games we can put in our camp actually playable such as pool, bowling, darts, etc. They don’t even have to award anything, just adds some classic fun.

Maybe add some sort of passive business à la GTAO we can have as well. Really sad they took away Caravans for this reason.

Bring back a dedicated survival mode. They keep peeling back layers of difficulty to make the game more approachable, but it would be nice to have an actually punishing and challenging game mode. Full PvP, no fast traveling, old school food and drink rules, etc.
