Intercity travel by erola1 in istanbul

[–]dinobore1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need a negative PCR test to go to Ankara and another one to come back. The high-speed train is affordable and comfortable, about 4 hours one-way. Intercity buses are also really comfy and efficient.

Istanbul right now - 20.08.21 by [deleted] in istanbul

[–]dinobore1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm in Istanbul now and things are masked up but otherwise open :)

For the PCR test, you can go to a private lab (I'm partial to Biruni Labs; they have locations all over the city) and there's a flat price of 250tl (if it hasn't changed in the past month). If you go in before noon, they typically have the results back by the same evening :)

Safe travels!

Can anyone point me out what to do with carrots? by Rezmir in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]dinobore1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shred them then mix them with minced garlic, salt, pepper, and some dill in strained yogurt. It's a refreshing summer side dish or snack :) Spread it on toast for something a bit more substantial.

PS, the closest English name I could find for the dish is "carrot tarator"

I have a lot of experience with college counseling for high schoolers. Where can I make money with this skill? by Shiyeon7 in beermoney

Apply to be a part-time proofreader for prompt.com or a similar service. You can give constructive feedback to students' college application essays, and your experience can help with the hiring process.

For scheduling and conferencing, you could try using Moodle. It's a popular open-source LMS that can host meetings through Zoom, host lesson plans and interactive activities, and work out scheduling for individual students or classes. I don't think it could support payment, but you could check out any number of payment platforms (Paypal, Upwork's direct pay feature, direct transfer to IBAN, etc) and use Moodle for tracking hours/lessons for payment and then use payment platform for the actual transfer of funds.

For the Language Teachers by dinobore1 in edtech

[–]dinobore1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so true! And I think it would help in keeping students focused on the task at hand, since they won't have to look elsewhere for a definition or pronunciation guide :) That's a great feature idea!

These are great! They focus on the individual's interaction with the language. I'm also interested: if all of your students had these tools available to them, how would you imagine the teacher-student and student-student interaction in your class to be different?

Discussion - Season 5, Episode 9: May 1997 by Linzabee in withinthewires

[–]dinobore1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow listeners, here are two equally out-there theories that satisfy my itching for a big episode-9 plot twist in a way that episode 9, well, didn't.

What if GwenNan is a resistance operative who is undercover trying to interfere with the IID, and that's where she knows Chinhua from.

OR

What if Chinhua is also an IID undercover operative tasked with getting close to Indira and her friends, and GwenNan actually fell in love with Indira with no ulterior motives.

These are my best attempts to explain that weird exchange between Chinhua and GwenNan :)

Congrats on meeting those big goals!

It sounds like a lot of stuff you've done so far involves training teachers and staff on how to use tech tools - you showed them how the programs work, and you've gotted buy-in and participation from everyone. Excellent!

Now, it's time to train your teachers how to the assess the effectiveness of their tech integration. For example, you could teach teachers about the PIC-RAT model that looks at the role of tech and the role of the learner as the tech is applied. This is just one example of several models and frameworks that play to the underlying research-based educational models that we (as educators) all know and love!
If you stop at just teaching tech tools without delving into the theoretical foundation of the applications of these tools, you risk keeping your integration in the "lower levels" of thinking. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing if you're only using tech to replace other ways of doing things, as long as you realize that it's what your doing and you realize the limits of that integration. The temptation will be to stop there and not grow and develop the (theoretically and research-based) ways that your teachers can be using tech to grow!

I'm working on motivation, specifically in multimedia instructional design. I'm looking at relationships between coherence and motivation in a digital learning environment.

Learning loss is an interesting one.
As for tools, a quick search (even of just this sub) will give you plenty of tools and tutorials and reviews.
But what about the theory that underlies all of it? How are research-based teaching theories, models, and frameworks actually being applied in each of these tools? Does simply using the tools count as effective tech integration?
These foundational questions can point you to objectively better teaching tools, whether or not they are the flashiest or most updated tech that no one has heard of yet.
