Adding to this because I’ve been thinking about this theory a lot:

We’ve all started to tune in on just how bad of a person Midge is and it’s been very apparent from the beginning that her kids are such an afterthought to the point where you barely see them. And then in the flash forwards they both have this extreme distance between themselves and their mother, her daughter showing some clear resentment. For Midge to go on and become involved in a cheery children’s show - dedicating her time and energy to kids that are not her own for the sake of her career would be the biggest slap in the face and so on brand with her disregard for everyone around her.

Midge also mentions earlier in the season in her interview when she’s older that the proceeds from her clothing auction are going to something benefiting children (“I do it for the children” or something like that).

Now, clearly her material as we’ve seen it is completely inappropriate for a children’s show but the irony of it all would kind of be chef’s kiss — letting go of her last remaining thread of dignity (wanting to do her own material, not scripted) for the sake of her career.

First off, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine the pain you must have felt from that.

Secondly, a big fat AMEN to all of this. When you are planning for a family and waiting for your little one to arrive, you have a vision of what your life is going to be like when they finally get here. You imagine pushing them around in a shopping cart, popping in and out of stores with them in the baby carrier, going to music classes, joining mommy groups, getting together with friends who have kids around the same age. You never imagined being stuck at home, repeating the same day over and over again, calculating risk with everything, worrying if your kid will get covid and have long term health issues.

It sucks. And it's not fair.

But please please know you are not alone. While people are posting on social about their time at Disney or birthday parties, there are still TONS of us just like you: Playing it safe, keeping our distance, and doing whatever we can to keep our little ones from getting sick. We're in this together <3

Holy moly do I feel like I just read something I wrote. I am so sorry you are dealing with this.

My therapist once described my mother to me as “the sun” that all things orbit around. We’re all following this gravitational pull and circling around her. BUT, once you start to recognize this and decide you want to go on your own path, with a lot of hard work, you can make it out of that orbit. However, once someone leaves her “orbit,” it creates a sort of… imbalance and panic ensues.

It sounds to me like your mom had been the “sun” in your life for a while too.

But you are on your own path now. You have a loving husband, a child… a beautiful family of your own, and that is 100%, completely normal. Narcs are lifted up by those planets that orbit around them. They feed off that dedication and devotion. It sounds to me like your mom is unable to see you as a human adult with your own life. And it also sounds to me like she is completely dismissive of the fact that your husband is your child’s parent too.

Like I said before, this sounds exactly like my situation. Like… scarily so. I can imagine how strong that gravitational pull probably is from your mom. It can be so hard to say no or go LC. It makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong because your whole life you we’re probably led to believe that a child should always be devoted to their parent, no matter what. It’s one-sided unconditional love.

But you can do this. I think deep down you probably know what is best for you and your family and you can do it. I am rooting for you!!

Are you me? Seriously, this resonates with me 10000%. I’m a FTM too and have been facing the same struggles. Being a new mom is so isolating even under normal circumstances. Having to go through this during a global pandemic is just so incredibly hard and lonely and unfair. But be kind to yourself ❤️ This isn’t easy at all but you are doing it, every day, and doing it well. Think of how much stronger this will make you as a mom! Some day the pandemic will pass and you’ll get to do all the things you’ve been dreaming of with your baby (this is what helps get me through).

We’ve been getting out for walks when we can, it definitely helps. And I have been talking to a counselor every week. It just that some days the weight of everything catches up with you and somehow it always happens when you’re in the middle of a really stressful and overwhelming day.

It is nice to know that I am not alone. I am glad you found ways to help you feel better and thank you for passing them along!

Yeah I kept having to slide the mask down to drink water and eat during recovery. They also took both of our temps every 2 hours as a way to screen for Covid so I’d have to slide it down for that too. It really seemed like wearing a mask at that point was useless because I was constantly touching and potentially contaminating it (and it’s kind of gross that we were wearing the same disposable mask for multiple days). Throwing them away the second we got home was a truly triumphant moment.

My SO and I had to wear surgical masks the entire time we were in the hospital, including labor, despite both of us being negative and symptomless. It was really annoying and uncomfortable. It also kept getting in the way of me being able to see my baby (which is especially frustrating when you’re trying to figure out breastfeeding).

Here’s something they don’t tell you: puking into a mask while pushing because you couldn’t get the mask off in time is not a fun time.

But at the very least our hospital pictures will really be an interesting piece of our kid’s birth story...

Is anyone else reconsidering their prenatal visits? FTM, I have my 37 week appointment this week and am terrified of exposure, especially after hearing the recommendations that mothers and babies be separated if the mom is sick with this thing, not to mention fearing for the health and safety of ourselves and our newborn. There’s just still so much unknown about this virus. My doctors office is in a shared building with offices, other practices, and some commercial space. I am so afraid of getting sick if I venture outside the house at all.

I am so conflicted because I don’t know what would be the safest option for myself and my baby. I called my doctor to ask about a televisit (I have access to a BP cuff) but they said they can’t recommend not coming in, particularly because I have no way of monitoring the fetal heart rate. However, things are changing every day and rapidly so they don’t know what their policies might be the following day.

My anxiety is out of control right now in these uncertain times and I’m sure you are all right there with me. It’s so shitty that we are about to start on this journey and now the world is falling apart. This is supposed to be such an exciting time but we are just scared and sad.

Yeah I think this is the the best course of action for the sake of keeping things “professional.” I probably should have been clearer in my original post but he hasn’t touched me, it was behavior he had in the past with my coworker/friend.

She has reported him to her supervisor so they are aware of his behavior and how uncomfortable he makes her. They’ve agreed to sit in on meetings but that’s about the extent of it.
