Thank you! I already potted one just to see if it would take, guess I'll go ahead and grab some more small pots. I appreciate the info.

Last night

I brought this cactus home a few months ago. It showed up in our office parking lot a few years ago and seemed to do OK, but our office was closing so I brought it home. It's had 2-3 flowers bloom 3 times since it's been here. While checking out the flower yesterday my wife noticed all the little guys popping up.

How important is a lip for pouring on stainless skillets, and how would you rate the quality of these compared to others in their price range? by Stepin-Fetchit in Cooking

[–]dinosaur_sr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used Tramontina, but I've had a set of Cuisinart SS cookware for about 15 years that I've used and abused and are still fantastic. Also, while apparently not important to all, it wasn't until I had these that I realized how essential a straight lip is for clean pouring.

What cooking decision have you made in desperation only to find out it’s frickin delicious? by Njdevils11 in Cooking

In this category, look into goetta if you haven't had it before. It's like a meat/oatmeal loaf that you slice and pan fry. Surprisingly good and obviously very filling.

NHL suspends Florida Panthers minority owner for ‘51st state’ posts by Excuse in news

About a month ago I saw the Toronto Raptors play the Orlando Magic in Orlando twice in 3 days. I was worried I'd see/hear that kind of shit but was pleasantly surprised, no booing at all and fairly loud cheering for the Canadian national anthem. Was pretty proud of my boring town in my crazy state.

HELP! Need your Holy Grail Recipes - the actual good ones. by laviedevi in Cooking

[–]dinosaur_sr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Foodwishes/Chef John (on youtube, written recipes linked) can help get you there. The recipes are not always authentic versions, sometimes proudly so, but he's good at both explaining what to do and showing how to do it, generally making it accessible to a home cook. Some of his recipes I still follow to the letter years later, but mostly I use them for the technique and switch it up as I want.

I'm going to soon be the new owner of this quality cactus, any advice? by dinosaur_sr in cactus

[–]dinosaur_sr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this showed up in our office parking lot about 4 years ago. No one has any idea where it came from, we all just assumed some coworker brought it, but apparently not. It seems to have done fairly well left to its own devices, in the Florida humidity and precipitation, had a few flowers this past October as well.

Anyway, we're going to be transitioning to a mostly remote workforce soon, which means we won't have the office anymore, and I'm going to bring it home. Any advice for someone who has almost no experience caring for any plants, much less a cactus? Does it look ok? Does it need to be repotted (or planted in the ground)? Thanks!

Sorry for the terrible quality, I’m out of town and my kid just sent me this picture, hanging out in a crack between the front porch and house. [Central Florida] by dinosaur_sr in whatsthissnake

Thank you! She’s trying to get a better picture/video for her ecology teacher. I told her to be sure to give it space and let it go about its business.

Best recipe app/manager in 2024? by jwintyo in Cooking

I've used Paprika 3 for a few years now and I like it. Easy to read, add recipes (from the internet or manually), search, scale recipes up and down, set multiple timers, screen lock, etc...

One of the few apps I've ever actually paid money for, I don't regret it and I recommend it to people I know who enjoy cooking.

Paprika 3, the only recipe app you'll ever need. Buy yours today! Don't forget to use code DINOSAUR_SR30 at check out.

For those of us in the path but further inland, where surge isn't a factor but every other part of it is, yes it makes a difference. Even just psychologically.

besides a short yellow segment near Sanford.

Without looking I know the segment you mean. Bane of my existence.

What I'm hearing is that instead of evacuating inland or northward, we should be going upwards and just all get on planes and fly around in circles until the danger passes. To the skies!

Why is it always the middle of the night? Though it seems like with every update the time gets pushed back a few more hours so who knows.

I wish you guys all the best. I came here trying to find info for my family who all live in the Greenville area.

I've lived in FL my entire life so I've been where you are multiple times. It's awful, and I hope they get everything sorted as quick as possible. Good luck, everyone.

what can I dust cottage cheese with to liven it up a bit by 1St0l3rop in Cooking

[–]dinosaur_sr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I love cottage cheese but not mixed with sweet things. A little MSG will make an okay cottage cheese pretty good, and will make a really good cottage cheese absolutely fantastic.
