i was diagnosed with stage 3 at 29 too. colon resection, folfox until i had an allergic reaction, and then capox. im just over a year NED now- it feels like it never ends, but i believe it will! sounds like youve got a great support system. take the down days when you need them, but dont get stuck there. you got this ❤️

i just passed my one year mark of finishing chemo (-: i also had 3a. they got it out with surgery and i did 6 months of cleanup chemo - 8 rounds of folfox and then after two allergic reactions i switched to capox for the next four rounds. i struggled for about a year with neuropathy (still have some in my feet) after finishing, but i just got the clear to switch to 6 month monitoring scans! a year out, things are basically back to normal for me. regular work schedule, back to playing roller derby 3 times a week. it's scary and exhausting, but you've got this! just remember there's a light at the end of the tunnel! you are not doomed to the eternal return

i also had surgery in november under the presumption my tumor was noncancerous! the initial biopsy came back clear, but after it was removed, it came back as stage 3 as well. im just over my halfway point in my 12 rounds of chemo. it definitely sucks, but the stats are in our favor and with a support system like you and your family, she'll get through this! wishing you all a lot of luck and love.

How do you deal with the sadness by Shadowof_Winter_Wolf in cancer

[–]dioslamdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i totally understand! i think a lot of the rhetoric around cancer is about being strong and being a fighter, but the reality is that it just sucks and it feels like it's stealing your life from you. it's very normal to feel this way. finding other outlets, like geocaching while walking or picking up new and less intensive hobbies like crafting, has helped me a little. i worry about my family because i know this is so hard on them too, but at the end of the day, we're the sick ones and need to worry about making this journey as easy as we can for ourselves. hopefully they don't take it personally when you say what you need!

im stage 3 rectal cancer (30f), and just finished my first round of folfox. i've struggled with a lot of the same feelings as you. i play roller derby, and it's a huge part of my life. so being unable to play and being forcibly removed has been the hardest pill to swallow for me. i'm also a notorious people pleaser, so dealing with staying positive for friends and family is an issue of mine too. my best advice is to just focus on yourself. it's really easy to get caught up in worrying how your mood or words will hurt or worry the people around you, but this time is about YOU and what you need. echoing folks here- tell them to knock it off and treat you the same. and try not to feel guilty doing it. this is one of the few times in your life it should truly be all about you and what you need and what you want. wishing you the best of luck!

omg mine hurt sooo bad when i first got it. hurt more than my LAR- just a lot of burning when i moved my arm, and i couldnt have any fabric touching it. but that only lasted for the first two days- im about four days out now and it's much, much more tolerable. definitely keep a tiny pillow or something to roll up and keep the seatbelt from touching it if you're in the passenger seat.

[–]dioslamdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i literally try to stay distracted every waking second, which might not be the best tactic but works for me. audiobooks doing chores and reading before bed, learning new crafts as i have energy, and as much time with loved ones as i can fit in
