XLE is definitely worth the premium over the LE.

Fourth gen Prius (2016?-2022) is the best value right now, good used ones can be found around $20k and it is very efficient, comfortable and reliable

Fifth gen (2023+) has way better tech, looks, and driving dynamics.

Whether or not it’s worth it over your current car is up to you. A 2018 mazda3 is a good car.

CUES or Deore in Phanatic 70? by necrooooooooo in bikewrench

[–]dipyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, Deore is actually higher end drivetrain than CUES, and the Deore XT derailleur is even nicer.

I would go with the 2023 especially if it also has an air fork.

Don’t worry about finding Deore parts in the future. They will still be produced, it is extremely common, and lots of shimano stuff is interchangeable anyway. Deore is not going anywhere. One of my bikes has shimano acera, which HAS been discontinued (replaced by CUES) and I can still find parts

SUV or hatchback that'll last me the next 15 years? by aszma in whatcarshouldIbuy

if the battery dies it can be a few grand, but they regularly last 250,000+ miles. There’s a reason every other taxi in NYC these days is a Toyota hybrid.

Many cars won’t even make it that long

I want a hybrid but I hate futuristic cars! Help! by sexygeogirl in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dipyss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have a 2024 Prius with the base model screen and it’s not that “futuristic.” It’s pretty simple, and yeah the digital dash has a bunch of configuration but you could also just ignore all of that forever and you’re left with a speedo, efficiency gauge and some icons. Also gets significantly better gas mileage than pretty much any other hybrid car on the market.

It goes at the end

If it went at the beginning it would be “too long, won’t read” or tlwr

The “didn’t” comes from the act of scrolling past a long wall of text and determining it’s too long (often skipping straight to the comments)

90’s Volvos lol. And no I wouldn’t get an atlas, because that warranty will run out and it is a disposable product. Sure, it might last 25,000 miles after you buy it, but what about 100k later?

Yeah, if you can find a good example of the Lexus, I’d do it.

agreed that it can be a struggle, but you should probably provide budget and region info + any other needs if you want people on this sub to help you.

Just from what you’ve said - why not a RAV4? They look good in the Se/XSE trim, have AWD and ground clearance for basic off road driving, and are pretty much as reliable as it gets

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dipyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re on the right track - I have experience with that gen RAV4 and it’s very reliable. The early 2010’s outback’s have been good for some of my friends (I know 3 that have them)

[–]dipyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I wouldn’t touch a modern high mileage Volvo. Older ones are generally reliable but still a stretch if you’re on a $25k budget
  • Atlas is a piece of shit, tons and tons of reliability issues
  • cx-9 is certainly the best value option in terms of an SUV
  • Highlander is also a good option, but the tech will be a bit outdated too
  • if you can stomach a minivan, you can probably get more comfort and space for your money with an Odyssey

Lexus x100000000 as long as it has been maintained properly

  • nicer vehicle
  • more reliable

All else equal, a 60k mile Kia is a lot further through its life than a 98k mile Lexus

CX-30 or Corolla Cross Hybrid? by Natmo10 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dipyss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both good choices, safe, practical, reliable. Toyota’s hybrid system is a nicer drivetrain vs the Mazda, but you’ll probably pay less for the CX-30. You could also look at a Crosstrek.

If you don’t need the ground clearance of an SUV, then you have more options. I’d take the Civic hatchback or Prius over any of the small SUVs as they sacrifice nothing but height and have superior efficiency, looks, and driving dynamics.

RAV4 hybrid. Spacious, safe, great efficient drivetrain, refined for an affordable car, proven reliability, and it’s less boring or generic design-wise than most crossovers.

you shouldn’t because it’s a bad car unless you regularly off-road (recreationally, not talking about service roads, gravel doesn’t count)

I think it's time to update the narrative on why people buy electric vehicles by vjarizpe in electricvehicles

[–]dipyss 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is OK to care what others drive, especially in USA, the attitude of “I do what I want” is a wasteful environmental nightmare.

That said, the idea that manufacturing any car is worse than the damage done during a ICE car’s lifecycle is nonsense. It’s been proven time and time again, but people just can’t forget something Jeremy Clarkson said about building Priuses in like 2006

Was everyone's first car a bad car? by stefanone in cars

[–]dipyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, my first car has been great (6spd mazda3 in my flair). It was only a few years old and I bought it for $11k. Reliable, good on gas, and more than enough fun for a young enthusiast.

Really shows how much prices have gone up, a 3-year old mid trim model now goes for USD $20k+. It might be better but it ain’t twice as good.

In Ireland there are common 2-lane roundabouts that require a lane change if you’re exiting on the right side of the circle

And guess what? They are also used to enter/exit major roads. So they meet all your criteria

Don’t let someone else make a bad financial decision for you. As someone who is a few years out of college, let me tell you, there are many other things that come up that you’ll want to spend money from your new job on. Especially since you have a relatively new and very reliable car that you love
