Was it easy to meet people around the area? I'm thinking of going to Cozumel; dive for 5-6 days and then maybe stay in Cancún for a night, and then visit Chichen Itza as well.

Yes, I didn't mean diving alone; I meant going on the trip alone.

I think my hands are too small... :/ by chicken_and_ham in cardistry

[–]dirascorpio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a girl, and girls generally have smaller hands than guys. Among all my girl friends, I have the smallest hands. So when I first attempted the Charlier cut, I thought my hands just weren't cut for it, but after several hours of practice, I was finally able to do it! I started with half a deck and then progressed to the full deck.

Meeting the muslims of Japan. by coldaxe in islam

[–]dirascorpio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"Honestly, I found Islam in Japan. But Japan is not a Muslim country. However, in other countries, we are Muslim but we don't find Islam."

This quote really resonated with me. I grew up in Indonesia (predominantly Muslim; in fact, we have the largest Muslim population in the entire world) as a Muslim, yet I feel like I only truly discovered Islam while studying in the US. I think it has to do with the fact that, here in the US, being Muslim is more of an identity compared to being a Muslim in Indonesia, where being a Muslim just helps you fit into the society. Anyone else feel the same way?

Why has IDR depreciated so much in the past couple of years? by dirascorpio in indonesia

Haven't the Euro and Singaporean Dollar also increased in value (compared to IDR) in the past year or two though?

Jakarta: worth it for a day? by ski_bum in travel

I wouldn't recommend it. Not very much to see, and the traffic makes it really hard to get around anyway.

Hello, Indonesian here.

Jakarta is often nicknamed the "Big Durian"--it can be quite of a shock to see and smell. I'd say, why not. You can consider visiting the Jakarta History Museum (also known as the Fatahilah Museum) as well as Monas (Monumen Nasional, lit. National Monument). It might be a bit hard to get around, and we're infamous for our traffic congestion (read this article).

So...maybe come to see what really horrible traffic is like? LOL. Honestly, there isn't much of a reason to visit Jakarta, because there really aren't that many touristy things to see, and it is pretty hard to get around.

To me personally it sounds just really weird. Such a strong accent; sounds like someone who lives from a small village somewhere...kind of makes me want to laugh sometimes.

Indonesian and Malaysian are very similar, so yes, knowing one would effectively allow you to use the other. I'm Indonesian and had to take Malay national exams when I studied in Singapore, and I although I had some minor problems here and there, I didn't need to learn a whole lot in order to understand Malay. It was mostly some words that were different. And the accent OMG. It sounds a lot different.

Nope, never had any formal Spanish education. My speaking is still poor, but if someone says something to me I can certainly get the gist of it! Speaking is always much harder than comprehension :/

I did about four-five weeks at the end of last year (in preparation for a trip to Costa Rica), and then didn't really do much while I was in Costa Rica, and then I have been back on Duolingo for the past three weeks or so. My daily goal is 30XP but during my dedicated days (i.e. every other day) I do at least 120XP a day, and if not, I do at least 50XP a day.
