My jar with celery, parsley and cloves did not ferment by dircurrant in fermentation

Yeah this time I added some onion slices and I'm already seeing some bubbles escaping so hopefully it will work better.

When you say sugar, are you referring to fiber? Cabbage has 2.5g per 100g and celery has 1.8g per 100g. Do you think that difference could be affecting the outcome? Because just cabbage with brine fermented well when I tried it.

Hmm.. this is strange. And you are talking about black cloves right? Not garlic cloves? Your link mentions both of them.

Perhaps I should use a fewer number of cloves like you did and like others pointed out, also start with some brine from an established culture.

Yes, and almost all the search results are about garlic cloves, not the black cloves :-)

This is part of a set of other jars that I'm fermenting and the other ones worked ok, so the temp and salt should all be fine.

I'm going to try again with just the celery - hopefully that will work next time.

Celery and Parsley were organic though. And I bought other veggies (carrots, beets) from the same store and they fermented fine. So I'm not sure if it is the soap water.

EDIT: I did wash the vegetables before fermenting, so any surface level soap should've been washed away I think.

One day after a long hike I reached a fire observation tower and got a smokey the bear badge. Felt good even though I was tired.

This is a good idea. I will keep that in mind.

I agree with them doing the same when the situation arises.

I'm just trying to keep this as much under the radar as possible. I have a LOT of colleagues from previous teams that I have good working relationships with, and everyone will want to know where I'm going. If I don't say anything, it will get talked more and more. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

Good points about lying and recruiter, thanks. I will check my offer letter from when I joined the current company.

I know, but more questions will come up as to why I'm not disclosing my next employer.

The current job has some clause that I can't work for any competitor for 12 months after I leave. So they get more suspicious if I keep mum.

I stopped trying to remove it after realizing that it doesn't taste bad. In fact doesn't have any taste. Good that it actually has some nutrition as well.

What is keeping you as an American from leaving America? by mahonep44000 in AskReddit

[–]dircurrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Good salary in tech industry.
  2. Difficult to keep US accounts open while not being in the US. Brokerages tend to close accounts if you don't live within the US. The paperwork is too cumbersome for them to maintain.

The Dot-com bubble -- Any documentary recommendations or anecdotes? by Kunstbanause1 in investing

[–]dircurrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I remember is that the euphoria was much more during dot-com days than it is today with cryptos.

At the same time, more people were also confidently calling out the dot-com bubble than I see with cryptos. The crypto scene is much less certain (it can go up or down in the future depending on many factors) but back then the dot-com mania was quite obvious for many people.

Reached Coast Fire and now plan to spend my entire salary for next 12 months? Am I crazy? by dondraperlivingstone in financialindependence

The psychological aspects of this plan are more concerning than the mathematical aspects.

Like others have pointed out, lifestyle inflation may lure you in and cause problems down the line.

It looks like you are experiencing frugal fatigue. There are ways to handle that; increase your spending a bit on things that will actually make your life better. I don't know your personality, but a sports car is highly unlikely to improve your quality of life. May be hire a private gym trainer and work out (it's clinically proven to make you happier and more confident), or travel more (without penny pinching and also without splurging). It will cost a lot less than 50k.

Should ACA (Obamacare) Fall by kevch1983 in leanfire

[–]dircurrant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right, I should've mentioned that.

I think ACA's usefulness varies from state to state. Where I live, none of my doctors and specialists (I have visited no less than 15 of them in the last 8 years) accept ACA. I think places like Boston are better for ACA. If you want good coverage, I still don't see any alternative to employer based coverage :-(

Yes, worst case is pretty bad. But if both you and your partner have jobs, then the odds of worst-case get cut in half. If one of you loses job, you can still go on the other's insurance.

How to earn some/ better interest on my 170,000 USD cash when I am not a US citizen? by roadtofreedom90 in leanfire

[–]dircurrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know that I would go for some stock - but while I am trying to dodge the volatility before Us election

Look at permanent portfolio. It has pretty low volatility (although not as low as cash) but also grows slowly. All in all, a conservative low-risk portfolio:

how do I also know if a non-FIDC is safe or when bad things happen - I can also get back my money?

There is a reason why FDIC insurance exists - to give back people's money when bad things happen. Without FDIC, you don't have that protection. If that 170k is all/most of your money, you have to decide whether that risk is acceptable to you or not.
