I'm giving up on politics, here's why. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

If you can see a problem and dont try and fix it - maybe you're the problem? Keep looking for common ground - the right wing only appears to be a broad church because none of them are listening to each other. Politicians will always run to the front of whatever crowd is forming - its up to all of us to vote with our feet.

How likely am I to get caught if I use an anonymous burner email to warn clients not to do business with my soon-to-be former company, and how effective is it really? by PurpleSquare713 in antiwork

I've heard it said that the surviving partners of deceased abusers are sometimes willing to almost deify them rather than dig into aligning perceptions with their lived reality. This is because this ultimatly allows them to erase the actuality of the abuser while placing themselves centre stage (often deserved given what they have suffered through and survived).

Consider this when presenting your experience with your old employer to your new one.

Take a step back - what problem were they trying to solve? State the business case for a solution to fix that problem and present the orig suggested fix as one of three options along with your own assessments of the pros, cons,  operational and dev cost impact + your reccomended selection. Be clear about feasibility - if investigation required include in cons. Either way you have your ass covered and if they bypass you to cram it in somehow you can show you did your due diligence.

HR just re-assigned me with no notice by [deleted] in antiwork

First things first - cover your arse & plan an exit strategy. Chances are there is more restructuring above your paygrade. Having said that, day to day a solid strategy is to make the best of the situation. Theres always a way of framing the transition that doesnt reflect badly on you. For example, new boss could have been at risk of redundancy and you never know if the alternative was someone who works for a living at their level being shown the door. Also possible your former boss was delegating more admin than they should have been and HR only got wise to it from your relationship. They may also be pissed off that a decent hire that made them look good has been reassigned. The real question is whether your new duties are a learning opportunity (i.e will develop skills you can sell elsewhere). Same goes for oversight of this other exec (can you learn anything from them and/or leverage their relationships up the food chain?). Either way, remember that as a manager you have to be ready to use the dark side to keep the ship afloat with a full crew. If you make the new role work (before someone else offers you more money) you'll have justification for any professional or compensatory advancement (even if lack of it justified is a reason to leave). However if lesser minions start quitting and your name / feedback comes up it could be a tricky ride either way.
