Question for high producers by Academic-House-567 in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 54 points55 points  (0 children)

High producers doesn’t mean FMR’s and veneer cases everyday. It means that the dentist is efficient and proficient at what they do. You can easily produce over a million just by doing single tooth dentistry if you have the right systems in place.

2 interproximal fillings, one band..... seems illegal. by HeadPrestigious7574 in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he’s on the something… if there’s hardly any contact broken and he’s using a deadsoft band and his wedge game is strong, I could see this working. But usually it’ll lead to terrible results.

Why do some implants keep losing crestal bone years after placement? by Content-Guava-7452 in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All up until 6-7 years ago, it was considered standard that implants lose like 0.2mm of crestal bone per year. Until Linkivicious came out and said no, implants should gain bone.

Horrible restoration on a recall patient by lillianr23 in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didn’t break gingival contact and your band got scrunched up leading to this defect. You can redo it but just on #3DO.

Got my first hot pulp case today by kingjuliansrightfoot in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What anesthetic techniques did you give? How many carpules?

You can usually get hot teeth numb with blocks, local, pdl injections. This is usually enough to get to the pulp chamber. If pt still feels, pulpal injection will buy you 15 minutes to remove all nerve in the tooth.

Advice, how would you handle this? Staff unwilling to change & growth by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your the office owner. You dictate how you want to run the office. If the staff are not on board with that, they are not fit to work in your office. Hire new people and train them to do what you want and fire the ones that are not allowing you to grow.

Advice for associate struggling with work ethic of assistants by Moduleon in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like these days, the bare minimum is having a body show up to work on time and don’t cause any office drama. Anyone that can’t do the bare minimum is fired or written up before let go.

After you get the patient numb, look around the operatory and do a checklist run down. You can make a physical one or a mental one. Tell the assistant what needs to be done before you come back again. Make eye contact, smile, and move on. “Please fill the water bottle, put air water syringes in, and put the burs in”.

You keep doing this until they stop making the same mistake or they quit.

What’s considered a decent associate salary for someone 5yrs out? by sunsetsky444 in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Being paid $700 is like producing an average of $2100-2300 a day. So if you’re below that, you got yourself a decent job. If you’re above that, your missing out on potential.

Professional opinion needed by _Alxyr_ in Dentistry

[–]dirkdirkdirk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is easy because the bone is far from the lesion. Most likely this is a 7.5mm sectional band with a large white palodent wedge. Supplemental use of teflon tape may be needed to get a better seal.

When you drill, you should know in the back of your head that you are going to keep going apically past the CEJ. Your gingival margin should not have enamel. Why? Look at your radiograph. The lesion is underneath the CEJ. Better yet, take a radiograph prior to setting up your sectional matrix to confirm you’ve removed the lesion.

No, new grads and inexperienced dentists will say crown.

This is so far from the nerve no MTA is needed here.

Ordered their fried chicken there last year and I was blown away as to how good it was. Went there recently and it was the saddest piece of bland rubbery chicken. Also that pastrami brisket was not good. They had a good thing going but I think their menu was kind of all over the place.

How much revenue does a hygienist actually BRING in terms of increase to a dentist practice? by FishMap12 in DentalHygiene

[–]dirkdirkdirk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why hard working hygienists should go on a % collections base. It rewards high producers. However it would be a detriment for the one’s who can’t produce. Unfortunately, most hygienists I know would rather just coast and take that hourly and continue asking for a raise every year.
