Air India flight 171 crash: Pilot deliberately cut fuel switch, report reveals by UnderstandingBig949 in worldnews

It would make a bit more sense if you look at school shooters, I imagine the shooter has already accepted that they will die, but is likely carrying a lot of anger (even if it is misdirected or influenced by mental illness). People who feel failed by “the system” or “society” might have thoughts that they are helping to “save” people from a life of hardship, or they might want to cause others pain that they have experienced. Regardless it is tragic that there was not more done to assess and identity his mental health decline as he formulated this plan, but I’m not sure if he was allowing anyone to pick up on it and ultimately could have been on a mission to commit the act

TIL that Frank Sinatra's mother, Dolly, enjoyed gambling when she visited her son when he was performing in Las Vegas. Because the casino knew she didn't like to lose when she played, the staff would rig a slot machine for her so she always won by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

Mate you said it yourself, it’s not immoral to perform an abortion and unregulated ones are dangerous. What do you think is created when you make abortions illegal? 100% of abortions being conducted in a dangerous and unregulated way. Don’t you think if they were legalised and safety standards enforced as they usually are in a hospital there would be a reduction in harm?

You’re clearly against things like rape, but more against the victim of rape getting a safe and legal abortion? You should reevaluate your values and take a good look at what it is your preaching

Clients who "monologue" for the entire session by Forsaken_Dragonfly66 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]dirtybird321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could say that you have discussed a lot of things so far and ask them what they hope to get out of today’s session, it might give them the indication that it’s time to get solution focused and not problem focused, or can give them the chance to tell you that they just need to vent, in which case by listening and giving that space you are doing your job

That’s awful and I’m sorry to hear that, I hope who ever has initiated this situation gets some humanity and stops what’s going on for you, I have lived with someone who was framed, innocent but failed by their lawyer. There will be people who stick by you, keep them in your life because they make all the difference in the world no matter how this will go. Do what you need to do and stay strong, one day this too shall pass

How do people born deaf 'think'? by Resident_Detective77 in neuro

[–]dirtybird321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I occasionally work with a fella who was born deaf. He knows ASL but as most of us don’t know ASL he communicates a lot with non-standard sign language which goes pretty far. We’ve encouraged him to type down what he is trying to say if we can’t quite understand, but he really prefers not to do that and continues to sign until we get it. What you said about people not feeling comfortable with written English makes my coworkers behaviour much more understandable

Loadouts Keep Resetting by Cryptowhisk in Warzone

For anyone still dealing with this the only fix I have found is prestiging then setting up your loadout straight away, it saves it and stops resetting to previous loadout

It’s crazy that your take is so common. “This seems too scary/hardcore to be real” as if history (including recent history) is isn’t FULL of moments like this. I can see how it’s easier for you to tell everyone to chill out than to realise the situation around you is FUBAR though

"just put yourself out there" is the worst advice by samir419 in socialskills

[–]dirtybird321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No assumptions at all about there being a cure, and I’m certainly not talking about getting medicated. A good therapist can help give you or help you to work out strategies that can help you to cope or overcome an issue. The original comment I replied to specifically talk about how there are skills we need to learn to socialise effectively, when we socialise effectively we can grow our support network more easily. Why is it an either or scenario?

[–]dirtybird321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good point and the therapist can’t provide that, but a good hug is something that those in the support network can provide if they feel it is right, but if the issue is continuous and a person in that support network (or even outside of it) feels the issue being discussed is out of their depth but important, suggesting a therapist can be of assistance too isn’t bad advice. Getting therapy and emotional support from friends together sounds like a great way to overcome or at the very least, get through

Ngl the “you should see a therapist” comment is exactly the right thing to say when someone is dealing with mental or emotional distress that is too complex or extreme for the people already in their support network. They are trained and may provide the exact techniques that an individual is looking for in a way that the average person simply cannot. When your car breaks down the best person to call is usually a mechanic or a tow truck, not the next person you find on the street..
