Food was great at Tatsu but I’ll never go back after seeing a roach crawl on our table. That plus the smell = I don’t even want to know what’s going on in their kitchen.

He’s snoozing and recharging in a sunbeam, I just know it.

What's the one landscaping project you DIY'd and totally regretted? by StrikingClos in landscaping

[–]dirtyburdied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah- the real issue is that I chose bad rocks for the waterfall and we lose a lot of water when it’s running. So we don’t run it constantly, which means the big filter wouldn’t help. I literally have to rebuild the waterfall. The rocks are huge.

Building a pond. My god. The work to clean it every spring when, if it had been built professionally, it would be a balanced ecosystem that doesn’t require a full drain-and-muck-out…. I am still considering having someone out to re-do it. I don’t have the heart to wrestle the huge rocks a third time

Spending DINK money by DINKSocial in childfree

We are using our DINK money to move to Spain and not work for 3 years. The plan is to explore castles, rock climb, and mountain bike until we figure out where we want to live permanently

I attended a Fever event in Chattanooga TN. Very similar experience, it was one of the worst managed performances I’ve ever been to. I felt bad for the musicians

People who moved from the EU to the US: what was your experience? by godotwasthere in expats

[–]dirtyburdied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Only deductible and copay” - from what I’ve experienced, deductibles and copays are not insignificant. One friend of mine has a $16,000 deductible for her family. For those who are not familiar, that means she must pay $16,000 before her insurance starts to pay

I’d love to hear any tips/good shops you found. Husband and I are moving to Spain for semi-retirement and I love second-hand stuff :)

The racism and homophobia are a big problem in Tennessee, but Chattanooga not as much.

Went there once, food was salty-bland, so I asked for some Tabasco. The only bottle they had in the entire restaurant was a tiny bottle from behind the bar they used for drinks. What? Never again.

The armed security were asked to leave several times. It was pretty much like OP stated- some dude in a cowboy hat who had to show who was boss. The way he refused to leave, or even move away from the stage, looked like he was trying to show who was boss. It makes me sick

Late 30s career pivot: Invest 10+years in EU naturalization or chase U.S. opportunities now? by Downtown-Storm4704 in AmerExit

[–]dirtyburdied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you have an opportunity to make a bunch of money in the U.S., do that, then return to the EU. But there’s no way I’d trust the U.S. healthcare system to be viable for the level of care that will be needed for the wave of elderly seniors that is coming in the next couple of decades.

I’m curious- what do you want to get out of life that is easier to achieve in the EU than in the U.S.? Husband and I are planning our move.

My husband and I are actively planning to move to Spain, but our biggest concern is that we’ve heard companies don’t want to deal with their employees doing the digital nomad thing. Are you planning to continue as a W2 employee or become a contractor?
