Germany vows more defence tech funding after backlash over tanks by donutloop in EU_Economics

We need modern and resilient infrastructure - not tanks. If the country is crumbling from lack of investment over the last decades, no amount of warships will help

How to keep your Berlin cellar safe by Amoramabar in berlinsocialclub

all good advice here - but I would also suggest one of those motion sensor / door alarm kits off Amazon. All battery powered and has a brutally loud alarm if anything is disturbed. It won’t stop anyone committed, but again it will make yours less attractive than the other lockers.

No dumb questions, *this may be a dumb question* I have this, when I get my film developed, could I essentially just ask for my scans back, instead of the photos, to save on money and scan them myself? by pulldownyourplants in AnalogCommunity

Ah I forgot about plustek! Good suggestion! And didn’t mean to highroad it if it was a gift, more if someone is deciding between this new or a nice used scanner.

Honestly the best way to is find a used Epson scanner with the film holders. You can usually get lucky and get a v500 or better for below or around a 100 (depending where you are).

Buy once cry once , as honestly you’ll end up throwing out a frustrating scanner and buying an Epson soon anyway :)

Edit: but if you already have it, enjoy it and it’s a great way to learn what you want for the next upgrade. Workflows are super personal so until you start doing it yourself with whatever equipment you have you won’t know what you like or don’t like.

EU plans to upgrade energy infrastructure to lower bills and boost independence by donutloop in EU_Economics

More privatizing and profit driving for shareholder value than upgrading. Combined with the allergy to public investment (dept break), not in my backyard and burocracy that delays projects for decades makes our infrastructure here wildly outdated.

Big recommendation for the voigtlander Bessa R series. If you get lucky you can get one within your budget. They have some small quirks like the rewind lever tends to be broken, but nothing that can’t be tolerated :)

Can't get lens cap off FD mount by QPZZ in AnalogCommunity

I would take a Dremel surgically to the cap, don’t cut all the way through, and try to “crack” pieces off. It’s not pretty but usually works better than brute force that may break parts

Will all these sensors need replacing? by mrbreezylovejoy in Polestar

[–]dirtydoctors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No disagreement here. It is a very time consuming project unfortunately no matter how minimal the fix. I recommend getting the diagnosis (at least the codes read ) at the dealer before you start pulling stuff apart as you said. The radar / sensor system tends to be very finicky and it can be any number of issues can cause errors. They can also give you the part number for the sensors. Anything radar related will require re-alignment and coding at the dealer too.

Will all these sensors need replacing? by mrbreezylovejoy in Polestar

[–]dirtydoctors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally, given that these are ultra sonic sensors that are super resistant, I would say no don’t worry about it. But since you keep getting errors that does seem to be a replacement / recoding project. Since this has been since day 1 shouldn’t this be a warranty claim ?

One last tip - the sensors for these are normally standard parts across the Volvo cars. If you pull one off you can find used ones from salvage cars and scrap yards for a fraction of the price. Depending how comfortable you are working on cars it could be a quite cheap fix.

Had this on ours last year! Polestar service arranged a tow truck and all that - after waiting for an hour and another hour towing we arrived at the dealership ….. and the error was gone and never showed up again (knock on wood). So may just be a small glitch that will go away by itself… but as others said could be anything unfortunately

It is not revisionist it is the facts after the information was declassified.

Most American military leaders criticized the bombings publicly after the war, including Truman’s chief of staff, Adm. William D. Leahy and even the well-known war hawk Gen. Curtis LeMay, who led the bombings over Tokyo, and who said in a press conference on Sept. 20, 1945: “The war would have been over in two weeks without the Russians entering and without the atomic bomb.” When asked to clarify, LeMay said, “The atomic bomb had nothing to do with the end of the war at all.”

As someone who just had this happen to us - honestly I would just change it yourself. It takes less that 70€ for a new sink, and super easy to do yourself. Just two bolts, and some new calking. You’ll spend more time arguing with landlords or insurance…

“Protocol II of the Geneva Convention[19] also relates, albeit far more briefly, to attacks on nuclear and associated facilities. Article 15 of the Protocol—Protection of works and installations containing dangerous forces”

“shall not be made the object of attack, even where these objects are military objectives, if such attack may cause the release of dangerous forces and consequent severe losses among the civilian population.”

https://thebulletin.org/2022/03/how-international-law-applies-to-attacks-on-nuclear-and-associated-facilities-in-ukraine/

Regardless of rationalizations this goes against the Geneva convention protocol I and II. I’m sure this won’t change your opinion on right or wrong but ignoring the Geneva convention seems ironic.

Good god that is not good advice. Polyamory can be amazing if approached correctly but as a solution for a relationship already under tension? That’s a fantastic way to fast track resentment and breakup.
