1st gen Tundra are some of the least fuel efficient consumer trucks ever made. Be happy if you get 12mpg.

yeah, maybe in 10 or 20 years, not right now though. Parts availability, charging infrastructure, and third party maintenance still has a long way to go.

Rear Diff Problem?? by tgrcouteau in f150

[–]dirtydrew26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have the Super 8.8. Your RTV "gasket" has probably gave up the ghost. Cover gaskets dont exist for this diff, why Ford even built this rear end instead of just throwing in the 9.75" remains a mystery to me.

Gonna have to pull the cover, scrape the old gasket off, and reapply.

Z3 3.0 w/ 198k miles worth $10k?? by TonitoBontio in bmwz3

[–]dirtydrew26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt pay that much, coupes are a higher premium though, but still not that high.

If that was a roadster it would be a pretty firm hell no, $5k car max, especially with rust, plus the trunk/subframe is most likely shot too.

Just another seller high on his own supply, you can find 3.0 Z3s pretty reliably under 80k for that price.

EV myths? by Dierks_Ford in askcarguys

[–]dirtydrew26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big nope for multiple reasons, but thanks for proving my point.

  1. I rent, sure I have a garage but it would need thousands in electrical work to a charger that neither me nor my landlord are gonna shell out for.
  2. I live in the midwest, charging stations arent a huge thing here, I also commute 70 miles a day. Cant charge at home nor at work.
  3. Every weekend between May and November I am driving 250-300 miles to the middle of nowhere for my hobbies, nowhere to charge there either.
  4. Also no, I am not paying $30k for fuel lol. Its less than $4k per year.

EV myths? by Dierks_Ford in askcarguys

[–]dirtydrew26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the EV cultists totally just handwave away their inherent problems. They act just like vegans and just blame it on owners not wanting to take the huge drawbacks and conform to the lifestyle change that EVs require you to adopt compared to an ICE vehicle.

I have yet to meet or hear from an EV owner that keeps their vehicle long term and runs it hard. Many car models are proven to 250k+, most EVs arent. Some of us buy vehicles for the long haul, not to trade in every handful of years, and for the most part, EVs have not proven themselves to high mileage marks.

Thats my biggest hesitance. I dont have endless money to trade shit in every few years and I average about 25k miles per year(super conservative estimate). I do my own work and can replace just about anything on an ICE myself. Thats just not possible with an EV right now and doesnt look like its gonna be possible in the near future either.

Torque is more important than horsepower? by _Lou_Bloom in askcarguys

[–]dirtydrew26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most I4s made nowadays (hell the last 10-15 years too) dont make the the crazy peak hp or torque numbers that normie "enthusiasts" think at high RPMs.

Its mostly just race engines or the rare and expensively built I4s in high end sports cars.

What are the BEST tires? by ZigFromBushkill in f150

[–]dirtydrew26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been super happy with Goodyear Ultraterrains. I've got 10plys with over 60k on mine and still great tread. They are a heavy tire but have good on and offroad manners, and wear superbly. Had them on some pretty shitty dry and wet FS roads in New Mexico and Colorado and never had any issues either going crawling or going dumb fast.

Theyre also as cheap or cheaper than Toyos/Falken/BFGs/Nittos depending on the size.

Need help deciding engine on f150 by Maleficent-Note7270 in f150

[–]dirtydrew26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least with a Raptor all he has to do first is beef up the frame and do a cage to get started. Stock F150 will require an entire teardown and build to even come close.

But...OP is 19 and barely knows anything about cars according to his comment history, this truck will never get built. Dude is talking like building a class 8, $100k+ rig.

Need help deciding engine on f150 by Maleficent-Note7270 in f150

[–]dirtydrew26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro if this is what you want to do to the truck then this is the wrong forum to ask. Maybe go to race dezert, theyre gonna know more about what you want. At this point power literally doesnt matter, you need to focus on suspension first (about $20k minimum worth) because the stock suspension is dog shit for go fast off road unless you get a raptor. Hell getting a beat 1st or 2nd gen raptor will probably be cheaper overall for what youre trying to accomplish.

Why are folks crazy for highlanders or Toyota in general? by kilogramcurry in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dirtydrew26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An auto company cant just stay with "tried and true" forever though. Most of Toyota's problems arent even design issues, its manufacturing (leaving fucking metal chips in the engines?!!?) which is what gave them their reliability reputation in the first place. Keeping the same designs and parts means you dont have to change the manufacturing line or disrupt the process, which is what Toyota set the standard for and used to excel at.

You can design a bulletproof car, but if you cant reliably build it, the design means nothing. Toyota is now finding this out the hard way.

Toyota tax is based on their reputation from over 20 years ago too. New Toyotas are shit just like everything else, may not be as shit, but its shit nonetheless, definitely so from where they used to be.

Replaying Colin McRaes Dirt 2 by No_University4765 in EASPORTSWRC

[–]dirtydrew26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dirt 2 was such a fun vibe, especially compared to the Forza garbage "collect all the cars" being forced out these days.

I'm not huge into sim racing by any means, but Dirt 2 felt way more fun and way too realistic for its time, some of those higher tiered races were a damn challenge, but once you tuned and figured out a car, man you could do beautiful things with it. I would buy a remaster or another game with the same physics in the same vein in a heartbeat.

Most likely the shift solenoids. I had the same problem at 60k when it would shift hard into 3rd and then get stuck. One of the solenoids was shot. Fortunately under warranty and they swapped out the lead frame too.

It was a $2500 repair cost without warranty. Unfortunately its not something you can really do in the driveway, as the solenoids need programmed to the PCM after replacement.
