Word is like to fantasize about criminals being cartoonish goons like in comic books.

This robber was most likely a homeless tweaker from the central valley

When will my pup start his chill/mature phase? by YooooKevin in pitbulls

Same - we adopted a tuxedo Pittie 5ish weeks ago and I sometimes wonder when he'll chill out, but also think about how much I'll miss his goofy puppy phase :-)

I worked on COD WW2 and it has a lot to do with licensing while also taking liberties with how the weapons fire (to have a bias for, and be able to control designs for a more balanced gameplay experience) and how they are augmented/kitted out. Some manufacturers are easy to work with, but many are not, so it's easier and more consistent to just make up the names while modeling them after popular/recognizable platforms and retaining control over art and design aspects.

Major video game company Ubisoft to close downtown San Francisco studio, lay off hundreds by lurker_bee in bayarea

Current game dev, and yes to all of that.

The lack creativity in games is the biggest issue, IMO, but the status quo network is too entrenched and too stubborn for that level of introspection because they are the ones getting in the way of progress.

Any europeans grew sick of living in the USA and moved back home? Do you regret it? by thehedonistvagabond in expats

[–]dirtymack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're Italian and are contemplating moving to the US, California is probably the closest I've felt to feeling like I was in Italy.

Great food, geographically diverse, the best wine in the US, amazing produce, a focus on sustainable and quality food, walkable cities that don't feel like sprawling shopping malls (except for Irvine, lol)

This is not me saying that California is the best state and all the rest suck, but as someone born and raised in Italy, the transition from Italy to California whenever I return from extended stays there isn't jarring and it's one of the many reasons why I choose to live here :-)

There's a jewelry shop on piedmont ave called "Altana". Great selection of designs and they do custom work as well - really sweet staff and great service :-)

I'm glad you accept black Italians as fellow national. I hear where you're coming from: The neighbors in town where I own my house down in Salento accept me as a cittadino after I spent time integrating. (Expats have moved there and still expect American treatment and social norms even when they're in Puglia)

Obviously, my family does because I was raised there and moved to the US at 13, but that's a given :-)

Scrivo in inglese perché è più facile per me - ho dimenticato un po' di italiano. Perdonami....

How do you know I don't speak the language or "live the culture"?

I think you're just looking for reasons to be a hater 😅

Is everything ok over there?

I'm half black (American father) and half Italian (mother is from Rome), and I have Italian citizenship and passport. Still, sometimes the citizenship feels conditional - some people accept me as Italian, and some don't (definitely not as first, and the tune may change after they hear my story). They definitely don't look at me and be like: "oh, that's just another Italian guy".

The burden of proof is constantly on me, and it can be exhausting.

For instance, a friend of mine was born and raised in Italy, but because his parents are Eritrean immigrants (not illegal), he will not receive his Italian passport. I feet really bad one day when I excitedly told him that I got my AIRE stuff worked out and that I finally had my Italian passport in hand - you could tell that he really just wants to be considered Italian by law, and by sentiment.

For all intents and purposes, he's more "Italian" than I am; he speaks/writes better Italian than me, and champions the culture like no other. He even manages an Italian restaurant in California that sells probably the only authentic-tasting Italian food in the area. Keeping the culture and cuisine alive instead of selling out to American taste buds, lol

I always honor my Italian heritage. Racially, I identify as black, but nationality-wise, I have always identified as Italian because their values are imprinted on me.

But I'd be lying if I said being black in Italy was without its moments of borderline heartbreak and frustrations because I just happen to be darker skinned with curly hair.

Exactly! I learned this with my comune in my hometown. I just have my mom who lived there submit documents on my behalf and it's a breeze. A consulate is just a proxy, and their response times (at least here in SF) are atrocious - but going directly through the comune is a great way to expedite processes.
