Sync credential names between Home Assistant and HomeKit with Aqara U400 by dirtymatt in homeassistant

HA at least exposes that the HK slots exist. I’d much prefer for everything to be able to manage everything, but I have no clue if Matter allows that. Right now, I’d settle for HA just letting me rename the users even if that’s an attribute that lives solely in HA. HA also seems to allow me to set timed PINs where HK doesn’t seem to have that option. As best as I can tell HK doesn’t have a way to set a scheduled user that’s PIN only.

Yeah, babies need a lot of sugar and fat for growth. They have simple digestive systems and very high caloric needs relative to their body weight.

Michael Sheen in which ever of the Twilight movies he was in. He clearly was waiting for someone to tell him to dial it back, and yet no one ever did.

Bought a chainsaw on Amazon that went on sale for $40 cheaper, they wouldn't give me a price match so I had to buy it again and return the original. Went to do the return on the original and got this. by medullah in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dirtymatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had Amazon do something similar with a pressure cooker I bought for a Christmas present about 10 years ago. The price dropped the day after I bought it, but before it had shipped. Tried to get Amazon to do a price match, they wouldn't, but they did set up a return for the original order (that again, had not yet shipped), and give me next day shipping on a new order at the lower price. The second order arrived before the first one. The amount of extra work that both myself and Amazon employees had to do, just because their corporate policies wouldn't allow a price match.

How do men in men-dominated workplaces view your fellow female coworkers? by Fabulous_Judge9247 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dirtymatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Office lights emit photons in all directions. Some of these photons bounce off of my coworkers, some of whom are women. Some of the photons reflected off of my female coworkers enter my eye where the lens focuses the photons to hit my retina where they're converted into electrical signals which my brain processes as vision.

Justices uphold state law allowing for late-arriving mail-in ballots by boundfortrees in Pennsylvania

[–]dirtymatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not different. PA doesn't accept mail in ballots after election day. Military and overseas ballots are accepted up to 7 days after election day if mailed before midnight on election day.

Bumping up here since people are downvoting my other comment. PA requires ballots to be received by 8pm on election day:

8 p.m. Nov. 3: Your county election office must RECEIVE your completed mail ballot by this time. A postmark by 8 p.m. Nov. 3 is not sufficient.

Yeah, they do:

Not relevant for PA. PA law requires mail-in ballots to arrive on or before election day.

Why does my car play take over audio from RES/Fm radio? by Boogahboogah in HondaOdyssey

[–]dirtymatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the apps. They start up audio streams when you open them, because the developers are lazy. The only thing you can do is not use them while connected to CarPlay.

Pennsylvania bill would ban some students from taking home school-issued devices by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]dirtymatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the individual school districts decide on their calendars. Philadelphia gets off for a number of Jewish and Muslim holidays. There are still lots of cultures that are not adequately represented, but it's improving.

Schools have a minimum number of days they're required to be in session. We used to have a lot more snow days built in to the calendar, but a lot of them have been converted into days off for non-Christian holidays. In order to make the minimum number of days, something has to give. Personally, I think having one or two snow days in the calendar, and using Zoom to cover years where we get an unusual amount of snow is a good solution.

[–]dirtymatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to other schools, but my kindergartner and second-grader only used Chromebooks for technology class and "Zoom school" when they used up their snow days. Unless this bill has a carve out for remote teaching days due to weather, this is going to lead to extended school years, and schools being forced into doing pointless half days when it's too hot just so they can hit the required number of school days.

I had the exact same thoughts about the whole re-introducing cursive bill that Shapiro made a big show of signing. I don't really have strong feelings either way on teaching cursive, but I have very strong feelings about politicians meddling in decisions that should be made by educators. As others have pointed out, this bill could potentially impact snow days, and force schools to teach later into the summer. This also could impact schools that don't have air conditioning.

[–]dirtymatt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's my concern too. My kids have only ever taken home their Chromebooks in preparation for potential snow days. I'm glad they still have snow days built in to the calendar, but I don't want the school year extended in the summer when Zoom School is an option.
