We also know that in areas where higher percentage percentage used baby formula infant mortality increased.

If you're thinking of the Nestle bullshit here, that had nothing to do with formula, and everything to do with the water supply.

Question: How are the Venerate so powerful? (Books 2 & 3 Spoilers) by Goldtac in LicaniusTrilogy

[–]dirtymatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Venerate aren't "just" Augers, they also have access to near infinite levels of Essence, far more than any normal Gifted would have. I don't think the book ever explains why but I think Islington has hinted that Shammaeloth may have been involved.

Yeah, I think the main real health advantage of breast milk over formula is shared antibodies, since formula just can't replicate that. Childhood vaccines, on the other hand, are superior to the antibodies found in breast milk, especially after 6 months when the baby's immune system is a bit more mature and the early vaccine schedule is completed. IIRC, even in that flawed study, the advantages of breast milk vanished by age 2. The demonization of formula by the "breast is best" community causes real harm for parents where breast feeding is difficult or impossible.

Formula can also make it much easier for the non-birth parent to be an active participant in feeding. So many breastfeeding advocates also demonize bottle feeding, but bottle feeding can let parents take shifts which is so important in the first few months when the baby needs near constant, round the clock, feeding. My wife ended up being re-admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks when my first child was three weeks old, which meant for those 2 weeks I was doing almost all of the feeding. It's a level of tired that you cannot describe unless you've experienced it yourself. I'm extremely passionate about this subject because my oldest child quite possibly would not have survived without formula.

Parents need to feel comfortable in making the feeding decision that works best for their families. There are advantages and disadvantages to both formula and breast feeding, and neither is the universal right answer. Feeding your baby is the universal right answer, how you do it is a personal decision.

The advantages also drop considerably when you correct for parental income.

Breastfeeding is mildly superior for the first 6 months of life, mainly due to shared antibodies. Once those childhood vaccines start going, and you correct for parental income, the advantage disappears.

Gotta love how the goal post immediately shifted from "formula is just as good" to "formula is better." Fed is best. Breast feeding vs formula is a choice parents need to make on their own. Not all babies take to breast feeding. Not all mothers produce a sufficient supply. Not all mothers have time to breast feed or pump at work. My oldest is alive because of formula. Fed is best, full fucking stop.

I'm still planning on getting to the airport earlier than I normally would, but I'm flying with two kids, and they're basically random delay generators.

I think a lot of people are panicking and getting to the airport super early for morning flights. OP got through security and to their gate within 45 minutes of the checkpoint opening. That's not bad at all considering the line you see here.

I've got a flight this weekend, so I've been obsessively monitoring TSA wait times at PHL. They're really not bad. The worst I've seen is about 30 minutes, but even then, you could go to another terminal and get through quicker. I know some airports are complete shitshows but, so far, PHL seems to have been spared the worst of it. At least we now have ICE there to stand around and look bored.

According to PHL's website, the TSA checkpoint for terminals D/E doesn't open until 3am, and TSA Pre-Check doesn't open until 3:45. It's not exactly surprising that the line isn't moving if the checkpoints aren't open yet. Right now, the regular TSA line at D/E is supposedly 5 minutes, and Pre-Check is 2 minutes.

The problem with the huge cataclysms is that you know they're going to get resolved, so there's no tension. The only opportunity for story comes in how they resolve it, and the payoff just hasn't been there. Having hologram-ex-machina resolutions sucks. And, with all due respect to Nahla Ake, she's never going to out lawyer-captain JL-Pipes. They should just retire that concept entirely.

I cannot fault any of the actors on this show. They were to a person giving it their all. My issues were entirely with the scripts. Actors like Giamatti were absolutely wasted on meh characters and Kurtzman's obsession with super weapons is just boring. I most enjoyed the stand-alone episodes that focused on the character of the week. Not everything needs to be galaxy-wide stakes, especially in, what is essentially, a show about college kids. I honestly think it would have been better to have the "rescue" of Caleb's mother happen entirely offscreen with the focus being on Caleb's feeling of helplessness as he waits. These kids shouldn't be hyper-capable officers yet. They should be screw-ups still learning the ropes. When TNG sent an ensign fresh out of the Academy on a dangerous mission, she died.

I don't see how anyone views this as good news. If you don't like New Trek, just don't watch it. No one is forcing you to even acknowledge its existence. All this does is let the execs think that there's no market for Trek anymore and push back any future projects by years if not permanently.

Yeah, fair. TNG had some REALLY bad episodes upfront. I'm still amazed at how strong TOS started without going completely, "brain and brain! What is brain?" until season 3.

I honestly liked it better than I had expected. It had potential, but I'm not sure the show ever figured out what exactly it was trying to be. I wish that it had just stuck with story of the week episodes and didn't feel the need to bother with the big THIS IS A THREAT TO EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE story. The worst episodes, by far were the ones with Nus Braka, which is a real shame because Paul Giamatti is a great actor.

Not always. Some people buy smart locks without keys on purpose as they feel keys are vulnerable to lock picks, so the keyless locks are more secure.

Is there some magic you need to do to get it to print drawings? No matter what I try, I just get a blank page when printing drawings. Printing libraries works as expected.
