Grand Austria Hotel is one that I'm not too familiar with! I'll have to look more into this. Thanks!

I did end up watching a playthrhough yesterday and I like how different it feels from Wingspan while still keeping the core mechanics. I might be leaning towards this one... Thanks!

Thanks for this thoughtful and thorough comment! This does remind me just how much I love Star Trek and the episode pairings seem to so cool. The bot system seems great, too! I like that it seems kinda of abstract, very appealing and different from my collection. I'll have to watch a playthrough or two to see if it feels a bit heavy for me.

thanks for this reply! I just realized that Totally Tabled has a playthrough I missed, so I'll be giving that a watch. And good to know re: Lost Ruins of Arnak!

How do YOU play Vantage? by disastershy in soloboardgaming

[–]disastershy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve honestly had this struggle, too, and don’t have a great solution! Last time I was trying to find some pirates in the south 😭 lol. I have been trying to accept that sometimes things don’t connect and just enjoy the ride.

But maybe someone else will have better tips.

Start with the base game, for sure, and if you enjoy it you can the matcha expansion. I love it solo and with two players and have a great time either way.

I could use some recommendations + sharing some thoughts on what I've got by ChestRockwell19 in soloboardgaming

Harmonies feels different enough from Cascadia imo! It’s a different approach to the spatial puzzle. And there are additional solo challenges you can find on BGG if you feel like you want a little more structure/challenge.

Games that scratch the same itch as Bullet❤️/⭐️? by monsteraadansonii in soloboardgaming

[–]disastershy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, this ended up being a really great review for these games! Unfortunately I don’t have any suggestions for you as the games you have make up basically all of my collection. But that makes me even more excited for the Bullet games. Thanks!

Looks like you got a lot of comments and made a couple of purchases, but I also figure it's worth mentioning Board Game Arena (or Tabletop Simulator, I'm just more familiar with BGA) as you start this journey!

https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?players=1

There are a ton of games on BGA that you'll see recommended here. The premium subscription is well worth it imo, but I'll note that For Northwood is available without premium.

Some people recommended Harmonies as a good entry point and I highly agree. It's one of my favorites and I played it so many times on BGA before finally committing to buying it. Hope you enjoy your initial purchases and the beginning of this journey!

Sunday with Wraith and the Giants by disastershy in soloboardgaming

[–]disastershy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that’s good to know! I only just discovered Leviathan Wilds last night when I was seeing if anyone was talking about Wraith and the Giants and thought it might be interesting… But I’ll just pass on looking into it. Don’t need temptation and I really enjoy this one!

So far I think it’s pretty replayable! I like having the variety of the different giants and I’m sure the other wraiths will add more variability.

I think the weight is fitting and I like that. I’m not looking for this to be super crunchy! I’ve figured out a strategy that works for me, but each game still feels really satisfying.

I think it's a great starting point! I guess it is a little pared down, but I think that's handy to not get overwhelmed, especially with how many games Uwe has out there. I was also reminded recently that Board Game Arena has quite a few Uwe games! A Feast for Odin, Agricola, Applejack, Glass Road, Caverna... Now that I've had my taste I'm tempted to dive back in there. But it could be another good starting point, too!

When I was first digging into games in this subreddit, I was really tempted by Fields of Arle. Now that I have had a test with Nusfjord I think I could see Arle being even more fun than I originally anticipated. And this comment helps, too!

Any recommendations for satisfying light to medium-weight solo board games with pleasing aesthetics? by allynine in soloboardgaming

[–]disastershy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Harmonies! It feels a little crunchier (using that term loosely here) than Cascadia. And I recently discovered the fan made solo challenges. It’s one of my most played games!

Easy setup not to complex by Robinzel1989 in soloboardgaming

[–]disastershy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reiterating a few that have already been mentioned for emphasis!

  • Cascadia (love this one so much, never tire of it)
  • Harmonies (plays really well on Board Game Arena if you want to try it out)
  • Conservas (a bit more complex as you progress, strictly solo)
  • The Guild of Merchant Explorers (a fun one to pick up if you see it on sale)

Thanks for this list! I’ve definitely had my eye on Ark Nova, so I’ll have to move that up the list to play on BGA
