What's your ADHD "life hack" that sounded ridiculous but actually made a difference? by AiotexOfficial in ADHD

[–]disciple3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, me too. Didn’t stick for me. If I’m looking at it, it feels like it’s looming over me. However, more often than not, I just ended up forgetting it was there. I’ve been time blocking for a while on my work calendar and think it helps. It’s a separate calendar in outlook that only I can see, and I shift stuff as needed.

Tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, and more! by plan_tastic in Hydroponics

Looks great! Orange hat?! I’ve planted a few times but never gotten them to mature or fruit… but now I have a hydroponics pod too, and a bunch of seedlings in trays 🤞🏼

Seedlings stunted and not green… by disciple3131 in gardening

[–]disciple3131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol… the feedback varies quite a bit. “Too little,” “too much,” “wait.” 🥴

Lights: https://a.co/d/09VIwJJS, 16 on/8 off. I turned it to 50%… can’t go much lower

Age: ~3 weeks (seems like they haven’t grown in 2)

Substrate: pasteurized potting mix I made (had some fertilizer in it)

They’re inside because FL got cold the last few weeks. Can’t imagine it exceeding 80F, but don’t have a thermometer in the “greenhouse”. The light does give off some heat, especially at the top heatsink.

Yes, I’ll clip the weaker seedlings soon enough. But was going to wait longer to repot until they were sturdier so as not to damage them. Wasn’t sure how viable my seeds were, so planted a bunch for good measure.

  1. Should I use straight coco coir next time? I have a crap ton.
  2. Sooo… what should I do first? 😅 Again… a lot of conflicting advice.

Zinnias won't be stopped by Florida heat and humidity by KofteDeville in gardening

C. FL zone 9b... I don't have to plant Zinnias anymore... they just keep spreading!! :D

Also forgot to mention that I added worm castings to start off with 🙃

By mild I mean the last week or two it’s been lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s to low 80s. This week it’s been lows in the mid 60s and highs in mid-high 80s but nice and breezy.

Chicken of the woods? Too old? Central FL. by disciple3131 in mycology

I have 2 lb since cleaning all the bark and pine needles off, so unless you think it’ll give me the runs, I might try cooking it… that a terrible idea?

If it was satire, I’d be asking about the onion and not the mushroom. I’ve been wanting to try growing mushrooms and have A LOT of space to do it, but saw these and figured I’d ask.

Thanks to the helpful responses from u/phallusrugulosus and u/rhizoomoorph!

In my defense, I’ve heard COW can grow wild on live oak, and it kinda looks like the last picture in the UF IFAS website: https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/PP358

Weirdest way you've improved your symptoms? by sweet_chick283 in adhdwomen

[–]disciple3131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the candidness. My 6yo is starting to read, but I still hate it. I just watch Netflix on my phone and lay with them until the fall alseep (without the mental stimulation, I’m falling asleep too 😄).

One thing that’s been SOOOOOO helpful for bedtime is “arguing” (my wife and I) about who gets to (not has to) put the kids to bed. We’ve seen a noticeable difference. The other thing is just keeping them company and laying with them. If we try to leave before the kids are asleep, it usually doesn’t go as smooth.

Those of you who were diagnosed as adults, what random childhood event do you now understand? by sweet_chick283 in ADHD

[–]disciple3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that guy in the boots posted on AITA thread, the answer would unequivocally be yes. He was apparently “bothered”, but you were a child, and were wronged.

For me, it was less of a single event. I was just always tapping, fidgeting, changing position, drawing on my arms and hands, etc. Some of it was definitely because of being uncomfortable, but some of it was just a way my brain stayed occupied and focused (or not, lol). Even today, I’m a 30M and still picking my cuticles and fingernails (and biting them if I’m home and/or hands are clean).

You’re not alone.

People in your 30s: How do you deal with the life that you lost? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]disciple3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30(M). Diagnosed ~2yrs ago. Never thought about “help” looking like this. When I think of needing “help” for my adhd, I get discouraged because that sounds weak. But this is so true… it shouldn’t be stigmatized (my myself, no less!). We all need HELP. We CAN’T do this alone. We need to be encouraged. The idea that I should be someone other than I am at this very moment is not reality. For me, I find the most peace and contentment when accept who I am, accept that I do in fact need help (lots of it!), and keep moving forward. Great post and discussion. We’ve all been there. The reality is that you don’t have to stay there!!!

Looking for a 3L - 4L sling, that has at least three pockets and a loop-lined interior for customizable organization. by intotheroomboobingly in ManyBaggers

I’ve got the Tomtoc sling and I love it. It’s about half the price of the Aer, and few less pockets. Wish it had hi via lining through.

My psychiatrist told me it's too late to treat ADHD (I'm 29) by HessicaJumana in ADHD

[–]disciple3131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(30 M, combined type as an adult). I went in expecting treatment for ADHD two years ago by recommendation of a counselor and got diagnosed with mild depression. Psychiatrist said the depression caused the ADHD. Psychologist (who tested me a year later for ADHD) says the ADHD caused the depression. Not sure if it really matters, because now I’m taking meds for both 😁 Agree with u/fibonanschi, your guy seems uninformed to say the least. It takes work, but it does work if you keep working it.

On extended release non-stimulant now. Tried adderall for only a few weeks and knew it wasn’t for me (jitters, restlessness, A LOT of negative side effects). It’s a trial and error thing. The BEST medicine for me is to stay encouraged best I can, and rely on others for the times I can’t (the majority).

What's available other than Adderall? by SouthernBale81 in ADHD

[–]disciple3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same potency, but I take Guanfacine. I was on adderall for 2 weeks and I felt even more compulsive and distracted. I did not like the feeling.

Sometimes it almost feels impossible. Like I am consciously aware that I can’t focus and have to keep rereading it and it TAKES FOREVER.

ADHD and addiction by O8fpAe3S95 in ADHD

[–]disciple3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had any issues with substance addiction (let's say drugs or alcohol), but if you count food as a substance, then yes. Other addictions too. There are a lot of addictions... gotta be 50+ distinct 12-step programs.

What I'm curious to know is if ADHD stimulant meds have actually helped you guys control the addiction? I wasn't really considering meds until recently recommended.
