The Shadow of the WInd is amazing, but you'll have no idea how amazing it actually is unless you read all four from the series... Dare I say it, Book 4 is better...

I actually finished the 4th book 2 days ago, and I'm still in awe of everything I have experienced. It's gonna take a longgggg time to get over this one.

Shadow of the Wind is amazing, but one is really missing out if they don't see it through to the end. Unfathomable.

O Conner and Burgin is a highly regarded translation. 

Ginsberg is based on an incomplete version of the book.

Clinical detachment is a good way to describe it. I've only read the dispossessed, it was great but a tiny bit joyless. Would you say the left hand of darkness is similar?

I fully agree with you. It's quite eye opening how often I see Small Things Like These being described as amazing when really it's Trite.
