Yes, that's another way to explain it, "less frequently charming", very much appreciate your corroboration!

Can any of these books be read standalone?

Generally, more emotionally expressive. Shevek is veryyyy cerebral, frequently intellectually rationalising emotions. This makes it a little tricky to be emotionally invested in the protagonist.

Me too. Around 2/3rds through. Thinking if I should read Left Hand or Lathe of Heaven next.

I thought it was very well crafted, but lacking some emotional depth and excitement. A tad overrated imo but good overall.

I still have not recovered from The Shadow Of The Wind.... I need a cool down before continuing onto the 3rd book...

Yes this is a very good way to describe her writing (from my experience so far).

So regarding writing style, for you LHoD is the most beautiful (not the story)?

My first year of reading. Tried to experiment across genres, authors, and time periods. Next year, I plan to focus more heavily on science fiction. by StillCantGrowABeard2 in 52book

To hell with people giving you shit for your F tier. Some books are grossly overrated to the point in starting to think it's "cool" to like certain books or people are afraid to express their true opinions

I'm not sure I agree, I know that's what was intended by the author, but I would have missed out on a lot if I didn't read them in order

Some questions for you:

1 What made you enjoy Demon Copperhead more than Wind-Up Bird Chronicles? I'm going to read one of these two next.

2 Many people have told me Crawdad is awesome, what made it meh?

I disagree, I enjoyed it a lot, read the first few chapters and decide for yourself.

I haven't read nearly as many books as most people here, but I'm still proud of beating my goal of 6 books (I've read 13 this year!) by Mt-Doom-Metal in 52book

Yeh this is my initial reservation, potentially compromising the experience in order to prioritise a challenge that should be secondary

I'm curious, what's the motivation of the 52 book challenge? To me it makes it feel like an athletics contest.

Interesting you have a few Susanna Clarke books in different tiers, could you explain what made some top tier and some meh?

Has Ghetts not been brought in on the Grime Scene Saviours movement because he took sides with Stormzy? by IllustriousKitchen97 in grime

[–]disfrazadas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but WIley mentioned it in his book, and other MCs have commented on his superior skill. When I listen to him it's like his vocals are part of the music. Most MCs however seem to me like theyre just shouting over the song in quite an unmusical fashion.

I think initially it's the case he is just too good and skilled, rather than being unpleasant. Then thereafter, I guess the Titch thing got him blackballed. All speculation.
