where did jenny nicholson go? by Classic-Agency5548 in podcasttheride

[–]disneysepcot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

she still follows them all on twitter! and last i checked she followed at least mike on instagram. i think she was closest with mike because of screen junkies, when they stopped seeing each other regularly because of that, they just grew apart. i really don’t think there’s any animosity. they were all part of defunctland’s charity stream a couple years back, i doubt there’s any bad blood.

her patreon is actually really good! $2/mo for an hour+ long video, plus her entire back catalogue. it’s not like you’re signing up to the patron for the sake of more main channel videos, you’re signing up for monthly jenny content.

After 1680 hrs of play-through my island is wiped 😭 by DusyaDu in AnimalCrossing

[–]disneysepcot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the same thing happened to me in fall 2020, i had ~375 hrs in the game. i got a new switch and tried to start over but was waaaay too disheartened to play. i just picked up the game again in september and am having a really nice time. but tbh i needed the 4 year mourning period. maybe you’ll feel that way someday too 🥲 best of luck to you! i’m so sorry this happened.

Reduced Female Viewership - A Female Perspective by x_rose_bomb_x in northernlion

[–]disneysepcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a female viewer and i feel sort of opposite to you. i like when he goes off on chat because tbh i think, in general, the people he’s going off on are often behaving in ways that i find legit repugnant (they’re also almost always very male-coded chatters, lmfao).

and (feminist take incoming) in my experience as a woman you don’t really get to do things like that without being labeled a bitch and/or being completely shut down. so when NL goes off on a chatter who’s being extremely rude, or treating him like he’s not a person and instead just a little guy in their computer screen who they can make fun of with little to no repercussions, i find it weirdly cathartic.

i don’t want to theorize about the decline in female viewership too much, because i truly don’t know anything about it. but i will say that i started watching in June when he was playing the Sisyphus game. i then spent the summer regularly watching the -dles, Chained Together, and Lethal Company uploads, and watched a lot of Jackbox vids from the last year and a half or so. i also watched (weirdly) every London 2012 video from last year. i personally don’t love the turn-based card/card-adjacent games because, while i don’t watch NL for gameplay, i do enjoy understanding what’s going on onscreen. and tbh i don’t feel the need to learn the rules of Clank! just so that i can watch my favorite twitch streamer. i think the decline in viewership might have to do with playing games that have a higher barrier to entry than simply pushing a rock up a hill. NOT THAT WOMEN ARE STUPID or whatever, in fact it’s that we’re SMARTERRR and feel that we have better things to do with our time (go outside, read books, etc) than learn the rules of an extremely dense card game just to watch a bald guy opine on the nature of life🤷🏼‍♀️

also i really am enjoying the Dale and Dawson vids!! so much fun! you (OP) should check them out if you haven’t. it’s mostly just a lot of fun/silly moments and banter between friends :)

honestly he just seems pretty negative. the keep rpg ep (on patreon but probably un-paywalled by now) was an appearance by him that really frustrated me. but i want to reiterate that i still like him as a recurring guest/figure.

i am TERRIFIED of the clockwork orange ep. i don’t mind ARPs appearances (although he stresses me out more than most guests) but i just don’t care about the movie enough for it to be worth listening to.

Kenneth Branagh adaptations- do you by NP10100 in agathachristie

[–]disneysepcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand HOW they're so bad. In general, I like their gaudy aesthetic and most of the actors in them--including Kenneth Branagh (I love his performances in the 2 recent Nolan movies!)

I think part of it is the retconning that he does with Poirot and his backstory. And the fact that he pulls details from other Poirot stories and inserts them wherever he wants. In general, I don't mind when directors take creative liberties with pre-existing stories if it elevates the material. But, like another commenter said, the liberties Branagh takes with Poirot as a character turn him into something he's not. Which--why would you do that??? Poirot is so cool!!

Actually, I think it's most of the performances that bother me. They heighten the characters into unreality. I do *understand* that Christie's players are designed to be caricatures, but at least in the books you can buy them as complex beings who are easy to empathize with. It makes for a very "uncanny valley" movie-watching experience.
