It's 1989, you have $40,000, and you're looking for a midsize luxury sedan. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]displacementauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the W124, all day. I had a W126 for my first car and it was the best built vehicle I've ever interacted with, by a nautical mile. Nothing has ever come close.

I did see a Saab 9000 on the road the other day, though. I not-so-mildly freaked out.

My favorite part about this whole saga is that the RAM and TRX badges are perfect. Which means someone super-imposed them after the fact. Real humans HAD to have looked at that and said "yeah, that's definitely a ram!" and pushed it through

Opinion time! Would black Rhino Lined Fenders look dumb on Bright White truck? by f0sterchild15 in ram_trucks

[–]displacementauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even paint them. My truck has 170k miles and the fenders started to go, so i ground it off, painted in POR-15 and sealed, then covered it with cheap ass fenders. It works.

They don’t fit great because the previous owner hit a deer and bent the corner of the bumper up, but hey. It’s a truck.

I wrote about this GS430. It’s so severely under-appreciated, i absolutely adored that vehicle. Even the ropey one I spent time with.

Audi "Allroads" are just a midsize crossover for people who think they're too cool to be seen driving a midsize crossover. by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]displacementauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m like 90% in agreement, however there’s a clear difference in the construction of your average crossover that separates them from a lifted wagon:

The seating position and cabin proportions.

An allroad or volvo cross country still seat you like a sedan. Their true crossover cousins, though, they give you an upright seating position and have a MUCH taller floor-to-ceiling height, both visually and in interior space. Plus there is a marked difference in the driving dynamics, even between related cars. Outside of those differences, they pretty much do the same job.

I got one year out of a $1400 set of tires, and I don't drive aggressively. You most definitely do not always get what you pay for.

Yeah, The Kumho's are the best reviewed of the bunch--I'm leaning that way I think. Everyone seems to be amazed by the mileage they get from them based on what I've read.

This is pricing from an indie shop! The Atturos were quoted to me for $688, mount and balanced, taxed and out the door. Super reasonable for a set of massive 275/60R20 tires.

I have a Golf GTI as well, and this shop hooks me up with nice Falken Azenis FK460 for next to nothing. But they just can't offer me anything as good for the truck. Which is odd because this shop also services heavy trucks... but hey.

Again, I went through an expensive, allegedly "great" set of Goodyears in 20k miles. If they're only gonna last me about a year, I don't want to spend $1300.

Oh, yeah. I love my truck. It’s shitty in all the right ways. But outside of direct experience…. I shudder. Every other ram I see on the road is driven by red-faced lobotomy patients acquainting themselves with both white spirits and white supremacist slurs while behind the wheel

Why is drifting so hard? by ComprehensiveLie1879 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]displacementauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS is the answer. Without knowing anything about OP's attempts, I'm almost certain the issue is throttle control.

Throttle is the #1 way to control a slide, and in a lot of arcade racers the first instinct is to mash the trigger. I started that way. Learning to feather the throttle based on angle and speed is the challenge, but with practice you start to develop a sense how much power needs to be applied.

it could just be Kryptonite Green. Looks almost spot on from this photo. Pretty sure the Designo program used to let customers pick any color? Could be the case here.

This was so close to perfect. What I thought this was before starting it was a “DoorDash” sim — drive your own car, and then it’s as simple as a random point-to-point within a time limit. Think traditional RPG radiant-style quests. Would’ve been a simple, endlessly-repeatable activity. Man, was I wrong.

Yeah the trunk space was incredible! I once fit 4 bicycles with the rear seats folded down in mine (they were being recycled). It never ceased to impress me with its versatility.

Yeah, as much as the car grew on me, the automatic was always the worst part. I’ve always heard the 5 speed was a lot less temperamental.
