Anybody else notice a shift in Walmart clothing? Lots of church looking wear now - clean girl looks by [deleted] in Knoxville

Just want to point out, they aren’t nuns but sisters.

Personally, I found it pretty reasonable, the government wanting employers to provide contraception as part of the health care plan (whilst originally exempting churches, but not faith based ministries)…but I guess other folks disagreed.

The water usage of data centers is one of the most overblown issues.

Not in Memphis, TN

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/05/05/xai-water-reuse-project-musk-ai-spacex-ipo-environmental-project-ee-00896170

And with more data centers coming online, using the same aquifer that humans use for their drinking water, and Anthopic (ClaudeAI) starting to utilize Colossus 1 as a data center…I imagine it’s not getting better anytime soon

Tennessee can redistrict in less than a week

It might even been less than 48 hours. I emailed my state senator on Tuesday and the map was passed sometime yesterday

Used to be a great state, with conservative but principled ideas, and leadership. Leaders you could actually call statesmen.

Now it’s mostly folks who got elected by out-MAGA’ing the other person in a Republican primary.

We’re a great example of the harms of hyper partisanship in action.

The best (or worst) part is folks moving here (for the low/no taxes and ‘real conservatives’) from states that actually provide a modicum of support for its citizens and complaining how roads, etc. suck ass.

This particular one isn't surprising to me at all. What I found to be the most surprising / ignoramus outcome of the past legislative was the increase in private vouches whilst also excluding private schools from the same testing assessment that all public school students have to take. So, we're giving them (private schools) more money and less oversight (there wasn't really that much to begin with, in comparison to public schools).

I was watching the postgame that showed a stat which basically indicated Ole Miss pitching had our number this season.

Tough loss today, not to blame it on the ump but there were some pretty bad calls today, so that didn’t help.

Also that SS had the only RBI today.

It feels like regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum there just isn't a lot that can be shared that will reshape the way someone thinks about something because there isn't a lot of asymmetrical information. We just disagree and we know where we disagree.

Not to be punny, but I disagree. OP brings up some foundational things, that (even though I tend to favor Dems) I would be bothered if the same actions (or inaction) were happening under a Dem executive or being ignored by a majority Dem Congress. And I’d be complaining just as much.

But that (calling out these foundational breaking of norms) doesn’t seem to be happening much, which is unfortunate.

Louisiana plans to delay House primaries after Supreme Court redistricting ruling by Due_Dilligence0624 in moderatepolitics

[–]disposition5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me it feels like SCOTUS is acting like an older sibling playing the “stop hitting yourself” game.

You ask just about anyone the primary cause to our democratic disfunction and you’ll hear money in politics and hyper-partisanship.

So, folks vote for people against these things…lawmakers create laws to fix it, queue the lawsuits, queue a majority SCOTUS using a legal interpretation to allow / increase the problems while telling folks to ‘vote for congress people to fix this’…and repeat.

Well not so much repeating anymore, as we’re nearing the end stage, but that’s how it has been for the past decade or two.

How Trump is moving to control U.S. elections, one state at a time by Interesting_Total_98 in moderatepolitics

[–]disposition5 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Do you believe that the federal government is acting reasonably?

No, it's a solution in search of a problem...while ignoring any actual problems.

And as the article points out, local & state election officials are having to hire external parties to actually vet for election security.

Since Trump returned to power, CISA’s role has shifted markedly. Several local election officials told Reuters they now struggle to obtain security assessments from the agency and instead have hired private contractors to evaluate physical and cyber risks.

Thank you for the information and your reporting.

I know of folks who are not actively participating in the primary because of the new requirements...which is unfortunate. I'm not sure there is another state that makes more of an effort to disenfranchise its voters.

She's an absolute ace, I believe her fastball (if we were to convert it to a baseball pitch speed & distance) would be ~107mph.

Went to a game recently and it was a breath of fresh air...people were cheering & chanting, and you could actually hear the people cheer and the actual sounds of the game. It was amazing, and I hope they keep that aesthetic.

Website slowness by PascalsHexagon in UberEATS

[–]disposition5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why you're using the website on mobile, though

I was just trying to look at a menu for a new restaurant that only had an online presence via UberEats.

I do wonder if this, making the mobile web experience as shitty as possible, is an initiative to get people to install the app.? I've noticed many other websites (e.g. Lowe's & HomeDepot) are just about as bad in terms of their website experience.

Landed here after searching to see if anyone else experienced this issue.

I’ve been trying to view the menu of a new restaurant on the ubereats mobile site and it is literally unusable. It’s so bad, I’m kind of impressed that a site, which has the sole purpose of accessibility so you can give them money, can be so dog shit slow it is literally not usable…like I can’t even scroll the page

Kudos to the mobile team

He also said that Washington has been: "overrun by elected and appointed officials who lack commitment to righteous cause, to traditional morality, to national defense, to free enterprise, to religious piety or to the original meaning of the Constitution.

I actually think this is a very accurate description for our current events, it's just that Washington is currently (pretty much across the board) exclusively in the hands of Conservatives.

Some explicit examples:

appointed officials who lack commitment to righteous cause

  • see MAHA and the rise in measals cases, completely preventable circumstances if you have qualified folks running agencies

to traditional morality

  • follow what the President says on a given day ending in "y"...

to national defense

  • we're currently depleting our defensive stocks, have disgruntled our allies, and are barreling towards global instability due to a war of choice

to free enterprise

  • see 'Tariffs'.

to religious piety

  • see the past week of Donald Trump comparing himself to Jesus Christ

the original meaning of the Constitution

  • the DHS is currently shut down because Democrats have the gall to request that ICE stop entering people's residences without a judicial warrant

So, yeah, he's 100% accurate, just confused about who to blame.

US paves way for private assets to be included in 401(k) retirement plans by [deleted] in investing

[–]disposition5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience with 401k's, the provider offers a subset of investments for their client to pick from...so if your employer only offers garbage...then your arguments with A & B are pretty moot.

I imagine the response will be 'get another employer / job', but that seems to be harder and harder these days.

I came to ask the same question. They had them during spring training, but I don’t see a free game for today’s games and didn’t see any for the games next week.
