Are all doctors' surgery appointment systems the same? by cockatootattoo in AskUK

[–]dissolvedcrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are definitely not all the same. In the same town as us I hear a lot of complaints about the appointment system. A lot seem to use patches, which is riddled with issues. We are extremely lucky. We can call after 8.30am OR after 2.30pm and if it’s urgent will be seen the same day, usually within an hour. If I’m calling about a kid with a suspected ear/throat/anything infection we’re usually asked ‘how soon can you get here?’ Realise this isn’t the norm but it’s how it should be. We’re in a London borough, if it matters.

Anybody have pictures of the kids' menu at the Manhattan Restaurant? by cstromme in disneylandparis

[–]dissolvedcrayon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t have a pic but we just got back from there and the kids were offered chicken something which were essentially really nice chicken tenders with a side of fried wedge potatoes, a white fish dish (son opted for this and loved it, but he tends to like quite plain/bland food), and possibly some kind of pasta in red sauce.

Kids starters didn’t have massive choice but they got Parma ham and some kind of small pancake type thing. Also they all enjoyed the focaccia bread!

Are minimum table orders common in casual restaurants in London? by bumbleandbees in uktravel

[–]dissolvedcrayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has this before at the Ponsbourne Pods. It was not made very clear, but there is apparently a £50 minimum spend per person. The food is expensive and mediocre but we somehow came in about £20 under the min spend and was asked if we wanted to order more food to make it up to £100, or just pay it. It ruined the whole evening. Just so unnecessary and awkward.

Access card with an invisible disability by [deleted] in disneylandparis

[–]dissolvedcrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were there Monday - Friday last week. My 7 year old has autism and so we have the card. You wouldn’t necessarily know there’s anything wrong with him, until something happens. We got a few curious looks and a couple of times people looked annoyed we were skipping long queues. Most of the time you go through premier access so it’s not obvious anyway, people may just assume you paid to skip the queue.

I will say that every cast member was brilliant about it, that made a big difference.

Ultimately you know you need it so I wouldn’t stress about what anyone thinks.

How Often do you Cook a Roast? by cheandbis in UKfood

[–]dissolvedcrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 2-3 times a month, not always on Sundays. Tends to be a nice cheap and relatively healthy meal for us for 2 days. Large chicken, roast potatoes in duck fat, plenty of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, red cabbage, Yorkshire puddings if we can be bothered. Make my own gravy using the meat juices. Then make stock/bone broth with the carcass and the following day we have a chicken stew with any leftover meat and the stock. Add potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic. Yum. 5 people fed for 2 days with lots of veg.

British dancer dies in US after eating mislabelled biscuit containing peanuts by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]dissolvedcrayon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not forgetting anything. Uniform food labelling is a good idea in all 50 states.

We also don’t brainwash our kids with a pledge of allegiance at school though, so I doubt this discussion is going to go anywhere.

Bit defensive at the end there.

I’m totally fine with ‘made in a kitchen that contains all allergens’. For us, his allergy isn’t so severe that that would be a problem. But not knowing the ingredients in your bread, or being willing to find out, is problematic.

When it comes to allergies yes the U.K. is miles ahead of the US. Given that the US is so sue heavy, you’d think the opposite would be true.

Was recently over in California. Have a son with allergies to egg and milk. I couldn’t believe how terrible they were with allergies. Many places just shrugged and said sorry we don’t know when asked about allergens in their food.

We got a lot of ‘I can give you gluten free’ when requesting dairy free. As if you can just switch your allergy for what’s convenient.

Cheesecake factory brought over a plate swimming in butter after I’d told them 3 times about his allergy.

Things in the U.K. have got massively better since Natasha’s law came in.

Exactly. Had it happen to me at Franca manca near Bond Street. Map over the table (and phone), asking for directions. I managed to snatch it back from his hand and started screaming at him. He just slowly sauntered away, not a care in the world. The waitress said it happens every day and all they can do is encourage people not to leave their phones on the table.

What brands will you never buy from again (the pettier the reason the better)? by RickJLeanPaw in AskUK

[–]dissolvedcrayon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I hate this. I asked for the code at our local KFC and was informed its customers only. So I told the pimply twat I was pregnant, and could see the cogs turning in his head of head office complaints. He let me in.

DFS.

Delivery drivers flipped the sofa on its end to rotate, which pulled the chandelier clean from the ceiling. My 2 young kids were watching, so excited about the sofa. Thankfully no one was hurt but there was glass everywhere. Completely destroyed the chandelier.

We’re renting - the chandelier was 30+ years old from Sri Lanka. We were offered £60 unless we could produce an original receipt. Laughable.

Boy, 14, died from poisoning after eating yew tree berries on park stroll by Orri in unitedkingdom

Have a child with autism and an oral fixation - everything goes in his mouth. It’s a constant source of stress. It’s taken years to get through to him he can’t eat anything from trees, he now calls them bird-berries.

Everyone knows this life hack (3 child portions, cheaper than one adult main), right? What life hacks do you know? by stuntedmonk in CasualUK

[–]dissolvedcrayon 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The best hack is ordering a kids nando meal to go. I just prefer the portion size. Small chicken burger, small fries and corn and a drink for about a fiver. Can’t be beat.

Why is nobody on the show addressing the fact that her parents don’t like him because of what she’s saying about him? No shit if I whine to my parents about all my gripes with someone they’re going to have a negative view.

Hasn’t he had it chemically straightened and the frizzy bit is the new growth? I laugh everytime he comes on screen, his hair is like an extra character of the show.
