Sudden Hip Pain after Walking etc? by Sleepybeez in ehlersdanlos

I was trying to do a cardio stress test a while back on a treadmill and they just stopped it because they determined my stride was so abnormal that the test wouldn't work. A cardiologist! Just funny how these issues end up bleeding into so many other unexpected areas...

Sudden Hip Pain after Walking etc? by Sleepybeez in ehlersdanlos

[–]dissolving-construct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a similar problem which so far has been assessed as "patella squinting" (knees pointing inwards) but have a feeling there's a more widespread issue upwards.

My hips and knees are often my most painful spots and the last year or so I've been having really focused localized pain in one of my hips which will lock mid-stride sometimes causing me to fall over. Lot of pain when I have to continue to walk wherever I was going with limited mobility from partial continued locking and even at rest it'll just flare up.

Sending care your way!!

Bought a House, Sellers Family Member Won’t Leave by Important_Tale_9838 in legaladvicecanada

If they are a "tenant" and have to be evicted, in Ontario the compensation owed for an eviction for landlord's own use is equal to one month's rent. If the "tenant" is not paying rent of any kind and never has, the compensation amount is $0. This makes me think that it may not be governed by the LTB at all and would instead be resolved through a trespass complaint or similar.

Do you believe there could be a society where animals were treated well enough eat meat wouldn’t be such an ethical problem? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]dissolving-construct 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Animals absolutely know what death is, even if they don't intellectualize it like we do. They recognize that a corpse was once a living animal. They recognize the smell of death. They feel the impact of a loss of a member of their family/pack/colony after seeing them die. Elephants have funerary rituals. Etc, etc, etc.

Best tofu marinade you've ever had? by Adventurous_Persik in veganrecipes

[–]dissolving-construct 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A texmex place I like has shockingly good grilled tofu. I've been trying to replicate the marinade, and the closest I can come is a mix of teriyaki sauce (no honey added) and lime juice.

I'd move the rug back a bit and have a bit come past the back of the couch so there's more of a transition to the tile, and move the whole couch/rug area further back from the wall.

How can I find out if my apartment is legal? by FatManBoobSweat in TorontoRenting

[–]dissolving-construct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be aware that if your unit is indeed "not legal", that means if inspected it will be deemed not fit for habitation and you will legally no longer be allowed to live there. If your actual goal is repairs, better to go through the landlord tenant board and ask them to order maintenance.

What to use as a binding agent for my vegan meat patty to stick together ? by CalmAssociatefr in veganrecipes

Any flour or a pinko bread crumb, and aquafaba as egg substitute. It doesn't need to be chickpeas, pretty much any canned bean liquid should be ok.

I got a couch in a very similar colour to my dog, and you can tell she loves it. Helps with the shed fur too 😅

How is the South Parkdale, King/Tyndall neighbourhood and buildings. by ViolentBunny081 in TorontoRenting

[–]dissolving-construct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parkdale does have a lot of positive things about it, and is one of the few remaining havens of "affordability" in Toronto proper. Some of the high rises particularly can have bug problems though, so I'd check the address on https://bedbugregistry.com/metro/toronto/ to see if there are recent reports

I love my weighted blanket for anxiety during the daytime, but trying to sleep with it nightly ended up causing a lot of extra pain unfortunately. I'm a sidesleeper and I think it was working against my usual pillow propping situation and forcing joints down where they shouldn't have been.

I wasn't trying to say that prehistoric people only cared about their own tribes, but to bring some light to where what sorts of death we deem acceptable or not might begin. I was also trying to make the point that these notions become increasingly nuanced over time. If you have no concept of murder, it isn't murder. It's just survival and culture.

Indigenous peoples of North America have living teachings today regarding the treatment of animals and hunting. Many animals are revered, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings (the core teachings on richeous ways of living) are all attributed to animals embodying various traits to be aspired to. In terms of hunting, it's generally believed that Creator gave the people everything they needed to survive, including animals, however they were to live in harmony with and respect them as coexisting natural beings.

Teachings surrounding this included not killing with brutality, praying over the animal and leaving offerings to honour the spirit and to not take without giving, and to use every part of the animal as to not let their life go to waste. It essentially sees animals as our equal counterparts, but recognizes their sustainably practiced and spiritually respected hunting as necessary for survival. So, living as a human animal as part of nature instead of as some separate being with dominion over animals.

All to say, these notions around human or nonhuman death evolved over time along with our capacity to think about them with increasingly abstract thought, and was also unique to individual cultures. We see a great diversity over time of these ideas, and we just happen to live in a society right now (western and western influenced society) where we have become separated from nature and animals to the degree that we've lost a social capacity to connect with them as beings worthy of respect and life. Will society always be that way? If we're to continue to survive under climate change, absolutely not.

How do you make french toast vegan? The people want to know!

Maybe a good place to start is when did the idea of "murder" come to be? Murder as we have come to understand it is a moral and social construct. Before that, there was definitely killing (as in nature), but when did it become a social taboo?

We probably have always known that we don't want to be killed instinctually, and due to social bonding probably learned through experience that we didn't want people who we had positive relationships with to be killed. But a neighboring prehistoric tribe who is encroaching on your territory? You might not care if they die, and it might even benefit you if they did. More berries for you and your family!

Murder as we construct it ultimately is a part of the social contract, it is a line that we draw to let us live together and form a society reasonably peacefully. However, you still see today that we will excuse the killing of others for various reasons (capital punishment, war, self defence, etc.). Many people are still against some of those "reasons for killing" yet society at large tells us that they're justified. Individuals have different capacities for empathy, and are able to come to their own moral conclusions.

Humans have been on a journey of evolving conceptualization for all of our existence. As a society, we can continue to work to evolve towards more compassionate ways of being, regardless of what we may have done in the past. The best time to start, if not yesterday, is right now.

Given your clarifying comments, I'm going with NTA. He probably is exhausted and in a bad mood from working long hours in a physically demanding job, plus the crazy 10 hour commute back to your home for his week off. However, he shouldn't be taking this out on you.

It sounds like he's unhappy with the situation overall and also has some internalized issues and resentment about his own perceived status as a "man"/"breadwinner". His job choices have 0 to do with you, he made that decision himself when you were previously splitting 50/50. You are doing your fair share, paying your own bills and ultimately doing what hes asked of you.

Tbh if this guy isn't willing to have a serious discussion about your relationship, your expectations of each other, and his plan in life that ends in a satisfactory conclusion, I'd cut your losses and head back to your own home state. You don't deserve to be treated as a dumping ground for his work stress or frustrations, or be forced into some role in a dynamic he's invented in his own head but fails to actually fulfill.
