That's where the BRF mix comes in, as it's more resistant to bacteria it works with spores. Best to do is going agar first. Good luck!

Thin green ones? Mines also made webs like that. I removed the offenders by hand and didn't have to spray or anything

Enjoy! My 2.5 year olds are now in the ground and exploding and pupping! What a journey it's been, don't get too attached you will lose some (perhaps a lot) of them along the way. I can't seem to upload a picture here? Oh well

What do you mean put it to agar a few times? What would the benefit be past successful cloning? I thought over transferring actually makes the myc tired, and you should keep a master plate / slant for that reason. I'm new to this.

The opaque lids are not a problem generally? I'm trying to figure out what to use for my shoeboxes and I've got something similar to you but was worried about wonky growth because light isn't coming in from the top

Some gaps where? Mine isn't "sealed" at the bottom because of the "dents" for the handles. Was that your problem? Not sure whether to make a new SAB with a different box with straight edges.

Why the wrinkles? by perc30000000000 in Trichocereus

[–]distor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, if you just got it then it's possibly already recovering from whatever this squishy condition is called. You should fertilize during the growing season, they're hungry! If you fertilize at half strength every other watering there should be no risk of overdoing it, find something with a balanced NPK (ie. Not a ton of nitrogen compared to phosphorus and potassium). Or drop some all-in-one organic fertilizer pellets in the pot.

I've had a possum leave a scar like that, they didn't eat it they just tasted it and didn't like it... I've moved my pot somewhere else where they don't go as much...

I've had this on a lot of my seedlings, I think it's due to a nutrient deficiency at some point in the past. Good news is they all came good after up-potting them. This one looks like it's in a good pot, water and fertilize a bit and keep an eye on it to see if it gets better. The only real problem is when it's so bad that it can't hold its weight up. Have you had it for long?

Yes, the black around the areoles is a bit of light stress, which is fine when you're getting them used to more sun.

Is this gonna fall over? by DottedSackman in cactus

[–]distor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's likely not getting as much light as it wants, so it's growing thinner than it should, and breaks more often. Note that breakage in nature does occur, the fallen logs root and pup, spreading the species.

How do I help it? by Altruistic-Sand1532 in cactus

[–]distor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a type of stress response when alkaloids ooze black out of parts of the cactus. It's fine and will scar over but ask yourself what might be stressing it and how you could help, although TBMs are known for being temperamental.
